Swing Kids Audio Drama
Project Overview
I've written a fanfiction for Swing Kids, and I would like to turn that into a recording!
Summary: It is the middle of World War II and Germany is beginning to feel the effects of it.
Anna Hensley is a depressed girl who has recently lost her mother and older brother to the Nazis. All seems lost until she is invited to the Bismarck for a night of swing dancing. It is there that she meets Thomas Berger and his friends, and her life begins to finally start looking up.
The more time she spends with Thomas, the more she develops feelings for him. She also finds that Thomas's best friend Peter is becoming like a brother to her and eases the pain of losing her own brother.
However, when Peter is captured, he and Thomas are forced to join the HJ and become Nazis. They insist that they will not change, but will remain the exact same wild teenagers.
Time passes, and Anna notices that Thomas is indeed changing. He is more temperamental, his logic is skewed, and his views have changed.
From there, promises will be broken, hearts will be crushed, and lives will be forever changed.

(smiling) Thomas! Anna! (sees the panicked expression on their face) What's wrong?
Can I get you anything? Maybe some tea? (calling) Peter! Anna's here to see you!

Come on, Evey! They talk gibberish!
RECASTING
Thomas's best friend. Becomes an HJ, but doesn't let it change him. Becomes like a brother to Anna.
(proudly) We'll make a hepcat out of you yet!
(panicking) Anna! What's wrong? (trying to calm her down) Anna, Anna, look at me. Take a deep breath. What's wrong?
Anna, what I saw inside was terrible, and it was then I realized just what has happened to Thomas and me. We've allowed ourselves to be tainted by the people we swore to never become. I just wanted to tell you that I'm…I'm so sorry…for turning into the person who delivered your brother to you.

(excitedly) What were you doing talking to Thomas Berger?
If he's asking you to go dancing with him and to lunch, then he's interested in you. Trust me.
Peter's love interest; hates swing at first, but grows to love it
We wouldn't be caught dead there.

(with forced cheerfulness) Hello, Anna! It's been a while since we've seen you here. Come on in.

Arvid, you'll never guess what I found. I was over at Silka's house and—
What's the matter? Everyone here looks sadder than a map.
(tenderly) What do you mean? You've been practicing for tonight for weeks.
No, but we'll get our chance soon enough.

(voice-over of a letter he has written to Anna) Anna, I know you loved Thomas, so I'm sorry for everything that's happened with him. Maybe you can be the one to bring him back. It sure isn't going to be me. Ever since I met you at the Bismarck, I saw a beauty in you that can never die. You're beautiful inside and out, no matter the circumstances. You are the sweetest thing I have ever met. Thanks for making my short life worth living. Never let that beauty die. Arvid.
RECASTING
a wild boy who falls in love with Anna. Becomes an HJ and it changes him to the point where he is not the same
Well, you're certainly a fast learner. I've never seen someone pick up something as difficult as swing so fast. If you keep dancing like that, you'll be a natural in no time.
(yelling) I finally realized where I belong and what I'm meant to do! I'm meant to get rid of all the Jews who are poisoning our country! You wouldn't know that, would you? After all, you're brother was a stupid Jew-lover and a Verräter!
(tearfullyto Anna after she has been stabbed) Anna, I'm so sorry for everything I've done. I'm sorry about Arvid, I'm sorry for what I said about your brother, I'm sorry about letting what we had fall apart, I'm sorry for breaking my promise, I'm sorry for not being there for you, and…I'm sorry for letting this happen.
Life was tough in the 40's. Media propaganda all told people how to live and think, Nazis were on the rise, and war broke out with many people looking up to Hitler.
Anna was not one of those people.
Thomas Berger was your average teenager. He had his group of close friends, he loved to swing dance, he desperately needed a haircut, he loved talking about and flirting with girls, and his personality was…well, indescribable to say the least.
Everyone looked at each other. Anna refused to say it out loud, but she was seeing a small change in Thomas too. And she didn't like the change that was happening.
a sweet innocent girl who goes into depression after her mother and brother die. Slowly begins to come out of that in the beginning of the story. Falls in love with Thomas. She is killed at the end of the story
(shyly) I don't know how to do all of those moves.
(through gritted teeth) My brother was better than all of the HJ, Gestapo, and Nazis combined. (now yelling) And as far as I'm concerned, you're no better than the people who killed him!!
(tearfully and gasping for breath; she has been stabbed) There's that boy who asked that shy little girl to dance. I knew he was in there somewhere.
