Superman: Champion of the Oppressed || MOTION COMIC

Project Overview

  • "Superman: Champion of the Oppressed" Is an upcoming motion comic created from the ground up by fans for fans. The series will follow Superman, about a year into his superhero career. He will face a one of a kind threat never before seen by the public eye. A mischief causing, playfully cynical, interdimensional imp with a name too difficult to pronounce without hearing it first. Mr. Mxyzptlk will put Superman through various dangerous trials, with innocuous intent, to find out just what makes him the compassionate hero that he is. Along the way, Superman will reinstate to himself his sense of humanity as he struggles with interpersonal conflicts that parallel that of another foe of his, a petty criminal turned metallic supervillain, hellbent on revenge for a near-fatal accident.

Mr. Mxyzptlk will be the main antagonist of the upcoming motion comic "Superman: Champion of the Oppressed." Mr. Mxyzptlk is an all-powerful interdimensional imp dead set on testing the limits of Superman's powers and patience with dangerous pranks and harmful escapades. He's careless, reckless, and frankly very annoying. He's not truly evil, he just doesn't understand the concept of human fragility.

For this voice, I recommend going down the absolutely hilarious rabbit hole that is Gilbert Gottfried's comedy. He's voiced Mxy before and, in my personal opinion, is THE best voice for Mr. Mxysptlk.

Here's what he sounds like!

If that voice isn't necessarily in your skillset, then I also would be fine with something similar to the voice Tom Kenny does for the Mayor in Powerpuff Girls

Lois Lane

In this series Lois Lane acts as this constant reminder of what Superman stands for. She represents his love for humanity and his drive to always fight for the truth. Their relationship is one built off of mutual respect and support between the both of them. Lois, better than anybody, knows how to keep Superman grounded when he's in over his head. She's quick-witted, intelligent, and has a strong sense of morality to her.

For this role I've always imagined that Courteney Cox would have been a perfect Lois Lane back in the 90s. I'm not so much looking for an impression as I am an imitation of her mannerisms and speech patterns, so don't feel like you need to try and replicate her voice.

I've also thought, more so as a voice claim, that Winona Ryder fit Lois Lane pretty well. You probably know her from Beetlejuice, Heathers, Stranger Things, The Crucible, and other such projects. Speaking of Heathers, I've also always thought Barrett Wilbert Weed (who portrayed Winona's character "Veronica" in the musical adaptation of Heathers) sounds like a great Lois, but as this project won't have a "modern" vibe, I think Winona's voice works better.

  • "This time, the light shone on the heroes coming out of the shadows to tell us we won’t be alone again. Our darkness was deep and seemed to swallow all hope. But these heroes were here the whole time to remind us that hope is real, that you can see it. All you have to do is look up in the sky.”

  • "You can keep laughing all you want, Mr. Stagg, but I would keep watch of those you're letting laugh with you. Not everyone is who they say they are."

Jonathan Kent is Superman's adoptive human father. If you know anything about Superman, then you know how vital Pa Kent is to Superman's character. You also know that what happens to Jonathan is a driving force for Superman's sense of morality and his strive to be an embodiment of good. We're going to honor Jonathan Kent and stay true to his role in Superman's life, but we're going to take a small creative liberty with how he rolls out of the story. And before you ask, no. He will not be walking into a tornado.. Looking at you, "Man of Steel."

I've always felt Harrison Ford sounds a lot like what I'd imagine Jonathan would sound like.

Martha Kent is this beacon of innocence and love in Superman's life. He can trust her to the end of time to provide the support, love, and encouragement that Superman needs when he's down. She will always be there for him the same way that he will always be there for her.

It may be an odd choice, but I think that Annie Potts would be a fitting voice for Martha.

Clark Kent's annoying co-worker. He won't be a huge part of this comic. Just there to be a big, dumb nuisance as is the usual case with Steve.

I know this is an out there request, but if you can do an impression of Patrick Warburton.. then do it. I have ALWAYS believed that Patrick Warburton should play Steve in something. I don't know why or where I got that thought, but I've stuck by it for years.

Diana will have a small role in the comic. Just a few lines towards the end to set up future projects.

While it isn't required I have this very clear vision of what I'd want this version of Wonder Woman to sound like. I think Holly Hunter, the voice of Elastigirl, would be great. However if you can do a decent enough impression and manage to pull back on the southern accent that she has, that would be more than perfect.

John Corben was a petty criminal in Metropolis, committing thefts and murders in the city before getting himself into a near-fatal accident. He's taken in by a deranged scientist who transplants his consciousness into a robotic body, effectively turning Corben into a malevolent cyborg with a kryptonite core.

A good voice reference would be Metallo from Superman: The Animated Series. The British accent can be switched out for a Boston or New Yorker accent if you feel it's more appropriate. You may also take a deviation by adding a robotic effect to your voice in editing if you would like to take that extra step.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mY10rDGe49o

  • "The radiation from this kryptonite drives the solar radiation out of your alien cells, Superman. It drives out the source of your strength, your powers. And in it's place.. it fills you with green, glowing death."

  • "Jealous, Superman? It's to be expected when you're face to face with the brand new Man of Steel. You're old news."

  • "I can't even feel touch.. what did they DO TO ME? It's all fake. A fraud! There's the reality! The metal behind the man. It's all I am now.."

Alan Scott is the first human Green Lantern predating even Hal Jordan. He's already very far along in his career, on the older side. He's been a hero since World War II and has worked with other heroes such as Wonder Woman, Jay Garrick, and Hourman on the currently retiring Justice League of America.

I hardly think it's a debate that Craig T. Nelson, the voice of Mr. Incredible, is the ideal voice for Alan Scott's Green Lantern.

Alternatively I also think the late and great Adam West would be perfect. Of course, he played Batman in the 60's television show, but I think his voice work as Gray Ghost in Batman: The Animated Series is the a great sound for Alan Scott.

Lois and Clark's boss at the Daily Planet news company. He's loud, harsh, and demanding, but ultimately is a good person in his own regard. Think J. Jonah Jameson.

I did mention Jonah, but I'd prefer you don't just do an impression of J.K. Simmons. I don't really have a specific voice in mind for Perry, but any sort of obnoxiously gruff man voice should be efficient enough.

  • "This story is garbage, Kent! I can't run this crap!"

  • (being interrogated) "You're a dense sack of bricks if you think for even one second that I'm going to tell you who takes those pictures. Above all, I would never compromise the privacy or safety of my employees!"

Jor-El is the biological father of Superman from the dead planet Krypton. He will not play a large role, just acting as a holographic artificial recreation of Jor-El's mind. He will be a resource for Superman to consult in times of dire circumstance.

As far as the voice goes, I've nothing specific in mind. It's worth noting that Marlon Brando was an amazing Jor-El, however. So you may take after him if you choose to.
