Project Overview

Hello! I'm Selene, an SVA animation student currently working on my senior thesis Styx.

Styx is a 2 minute short animated film that follows the titular character Styx's retrospection on her life.

This film is a reflection on suicide and suicidal ideation and might be triggering. It has a non-graphic (silhouetted) depiction of a hanged body (side character) and a non-graphic depiction of a failed suicide attempt (main character.) The main character does not die in this film. Please be comfortable with this when applying to roles.

    Hi everyone! It's been a long couple of weeks for me. As I said before, the amount of submissions and interest I received was amazing. I had many tough decisions to make along every step of the process. I truly appreciate all of you for applying and giving my project a chance. I am only one person and there is no way I could reply to every submission myself--I just wanted to say that I looked over all of your auditions and kind messages that came along with them. I'm touched that my work, even in its incomplete stages now, resonates with people. There was so much talent and skill in my submission list and I hope you all continue to audition and create art. Styx is the film's titular character. The film starts and ends with her voice over, giving us vague but insightful snippets of her mind. This is a voice over role, spoken in first person POV.


I am looking for a melancholic, feminine, young adult voice. It should sound introspective with a bit of apathy--not completely monotone but not energetic either.


Flat rate: $70 USD / $10 per line

6 lines + coughing up water and breath sounds*


*Because character unsuccessfully drowns herself. PLEASE DO NOT ACTUALLY DROWN YOURSELF! But you will need to provide recordings for this purpose.

I am looking for a composer to score my thesis film (2 minutes and 20 seconds in length). It should be mellow and piano-centric. I will provide a cue sheet for you to reference.

Flat Rate:

$250 for composer

If you are also a sound designer, I will pay an additional $100 ($350 total.) If you are interested, please indicate in your audition. You must show examples of your sound design work. Sound design skills are not required to audition for the composer role. If you are only interested in the sound design role, please indicate this as well. I am prioritizing composers in my budget.


Music specifications:

- Piano focused

- Overall: mellow, melancholic, romantic

- Must be able to score to a narrative, there are mood changes within my film

- MUST BE ABLE TO TAKE FEEDBACK AND WORK CLOSELY WITH ME. My film's mood and atmosphere is highly dependent on the score. Because of this, please anticipate around two rounds of revisions. You can negotiate this with me if needed.

- Music should be done by early January, late January at the latest.


Sound specifications (for sound designers):

- Be especially proficient in designing sounds for waterscapes. Water is most of my film.
