Star Fox Auditions

Project Overview

These roles are not for any specific one project but cast for various projects I have planned for Hyper Frost Productions. Primarily an animated show we're working on called Game Over Cafe. the video linked is a story board sequence from episode 1 of Rouge and Mighty. Star Fox characters will be appearing later in the series.

There's also character reaction videos planned. and at some point in the future we want to do a fan dub of the 90s Star Fox comic and the SNES Star Fox game.

Okay! so it's finally time to start working on Star Fox auditions!

I was going to do Star Fox and TF2 characters at the same time, but seeing how long it took me to get this script finished just for Star Fox, I decided I'll do TF2 later and not have to wait on that.

So in this link to a Google Document, the first page is a brief overview of the auditions and information. and then each character has his or her own page with pictures, character information, a link to the wiki, a video link to a voice sample, and then lines for the auditions.

4 of the Star Fox characters that I already cast are included at the end of the list. Which are Fox, Leon, General Pepper, and Andrew. Those 4 are already cast. however, if you still want to try out for those roles, you can try to put your hat in the ring but you'll have to really impress me with your take on the character to replace the current casting.

Similar for General Scales, but he's not actually locked in to be played by Brownie yet. he's the front runner and likely to stick. but you're still welcome to try out for Scales.

all the other characters are up for grabs if you can match the voices to the Star Fox 64 versions of the characters. with some exceptions like if you want to try the Smash Brawl version of Wolf with the more Texas accent, we may go that route.

and with Slippy, I prefer the N64 voice for him that sounds really girly, but some of the later takes on his voice are acceptable.

right now, I'm setting a soft deadline for April 10th. that's one month. this is flexible but not an excuse to put it off.

there is a wide range of characters in this with various voices and accents so check out each one and give it a shot to ones you think you can do a good voice for.

And there are female characters as well.

Also either male or female can try out for Slippy.

  • Large casting update!

    so I have enough data now, even with some people not casting a vote yet, to go ahead and make a few decisions.

    KingCobra82's position as Andrew is very secure. I didn't bother putting the votes for him on the tally but it was a clear victory anyways even without me already casting him.
    Connor Stone will serve as the backup—just in case KingC is for some reason unable to do the part.

    For the role of Andross... it's a pretty clear-cut victory for Big Wes to come away with that role easily.
    It's Rick will serve as backup for Big Wes.

    For Bill — congrats to BX56 for nabbing the role. It was a tough battle back and forth but he's the clear favorite.

    Now as for the backup, it's too close to call. Between Lava Pants, Mike Kern, and Jale, it's pretty even.
    So I may hold a runoff between them for the backup—or leave it flexible depending on schedules and future votes.

    Falco... okay now this one is tough. It's almost dead even between Apex and CcPwns, even with the backups.
    There are some other choices with just a backup vote, but taking it all into consideration, it’s definitely between Apex and Cc.

    And it's difficult for me to put my own bias aside and just call it for Apex... but that's not fair.

    So I will be holding a runoff vote between the two of them. One will be cast, and the other will serve as backup.

    Congrats to McCue for being easily picked by most people as the backup for Fox.
    Trey Jones (ElitasGaming) is the main VA for Fox, but McCue will serve as backup just in case.

    General Pepper is going to Winn Manning, but we all already knew that.
    The only other person to even attempt an audition after him was Connor Stone, so by default he can be backup—but still, those are massive shoes to fill and I don't think anybody can really replace Winn.

    James...
    Okay, so here I'm going to have to make an executive decision and buck the vote a bit.

    My choice was Rex Diamond (Richie T) for James. But John Knapko is up by two votes on him. They both got one vote as a secondary choice. It's close, but John is in the lead.

    However, I'm already going to be casting John for Yaru De Pon, as you’ll see in a bit once we reach that role. And I get why people are voting for John to be James—he's got that great soothing voice and sounds like "your dad."

    However, in my opinion, I think Rex sounds perfect as James and nearly identical to the N64 in-game voice. And John I love for Yaru De Pon. John has a great voice but his James and Yaru De Pon sound too similar, and I don’t want to cast him in both roles.

    So this may not seem fair, but once I consider everything... I'm going to make an executive decision as director to cast Rex Diamond as James, and then John will serve as backup.

    Rex was only down by two votes for James, and I'm going to be putting John in the role for Yaru.
    I hope everyone can agree with this decision.

    Katt and Krystal — well oh boy... lol I don't think there's much question here.
    For both roles, Amanda Willett will be cast as primary and Grim as backup.

    Both are amazing in the roles and clear favorites. That said, I love them both in these roles.
    So I may just swap back and forth sometimes, but Grim will serve as backup mostly since she’s busy a lot with life anyway.
    This works best, and Amanda ran away with the vote with Grim trailing just behind.

    Leon — well, Phill Mann was already cast in this role, so this was mostly to decide who would be backup.
    Almost everybody said Darien Brown—not just for sounding great as Leon, but actually sounding nearly identical to Phill as well lol.

    So Phill is Leon, with Darien as backup. And with how busy Phill is, Darien may get to voice him fairly often.

    Panther — of course, AgentShadow (Devin) was by far the favorite and I had decided to cast him even before the vote. Not many people disagreed.

    And for backup, it was pretty much universal for Sebastian Brannen.

    So AgentShadow is locked in as Panther, with Sebas as backup just in case.

    Peppy — I was expecting, before we started, that this would be a close race between Lance and Adam the Fanatic.
    Little did I expect Logan Taylor to come along from CCC and pretty much sound identical to Rick May’s voice for Peppy on the N64.

    Most people agreed. He could use a little more of a lisp or that "overbite" voice Peppy had, but aside from that—Logan is perfect.

    Lance was voted as backup. Just in case.

    Pigma — with his natural New Jersey accent and some loyalty from friends on the team that know him, FPeralta was a clear-cut vote for Pigma.
    He’s got the voice—maybe slightly too high pitched—but the accent is perfect.

    Mr. Moron was the easy choice for backup.

    ROB 64... is too close to call.
    We've got Connor Stone with 7 primary and 3 secondary. CarrotToe with 6 primary and 3 secondary.
    Jale has 3 primary but 7 secondary, while the rest trail behind.

    So I’ll be holding a runoff vote for ROB 64 between just those three.
    Who knew casting a robot voice would be so difficult? lol

    General Scales is easily Brownie.
    In fact, his audition was so good—like Winn for General Pepper—that pretty much nobody else even tried, aside from Connor.

    Slippy — okay, so this one is very tricky.

    If we go by just the vote count, Amanda wins it again.
    However, it's not as clear-cut like with Katt and Krystal. The others are much closer to her this time.

    And then I have to decide... am I going to give three core Star Fox roles to one person?
    Yes, she's earned it, but as much as I do operate on merit, I also try to be fair at the same time.

    So I’m going to have to decide if I give the role to Amanda...
    Or since she’s already got Katt and Krystal, do I disqualify her from it and hold a runoff between Tai and Carrie, or have everybody vote again without Amanda in the pool to see if the others get more votes?

    Honestly, if I were going to just disregard all the votes and make a gut decision, I’d pick Carrie for the role.
    But I want to give the team a say.

    British Wolf — there’s almost no contest for the classic N64 style British voice for Wolf O’Donnell.
    Hedgie ran away with the vote by a mile with 18. The next closest had just 2.

    That said, the person with 2 votes was Jale, and Jale also got 4 backup votes.

    So congrats to Hedgie for securing classic Wolf. And Jale will be backup, just in case.

    Texas Wolf — there was some confusion in the voting process. Most people didn’t vote for this version or thought it was for the same role.

    So I will not count a winner for the Smash Bros. Brawl / Texas voice of Wolf yet.
    We will hold a re-vote later specifically for Texas Wolf.

    Yaru De Pon — this was back and forth between John Knapko and It’s Rick.
    But John finished with 11 primary and 5 backup, while Rick had 9 primary and 6 backup.

    So it’s going to John! And I do love how he sounds as Yaru De Pon, making it his own.

    This is also why I’m making the decision to give the role of James to Rex—because I want John’s voice distinct as Yaru.

    Let me know if you agree with my decision to cast Rex as James over John, despite John having 2 more votes, and my reasoning for doing so.
    And also let me know what I should do about Slippy...

    We will have runoff votes for:

    • Falco

    • Bill’s backup

    • ROB 64

    • Texas Wolf (re-vote)

    • And a decision needs to be made about Slippy

  • Andross and British Wolf cast. Fox backup chosen

    So far with the voting, Andross has Big Wes on Discord at a whopping 12 votes and leagues ahead of everybody else.
    similarly for the British version of Wolf, Hedigie also has 12 votes and way way ahead.

    I believe it's safe to call it for them and cast Big Wes as Andross and Hedgie as british Wolf O'donnel.

    as for backup VAs, the votes are too close to call so those are not chosen yet.

    Texas accent Brawl Wolf O'Donnal is also too close to call yet. but so far It's Rick is in the lead with 5 votes.

    so calling it now. Andross is cast as Big Wes and British Wolf is cast as Hedgie.

    backup VAs yet to be chosen.

    Also, from the votes received, it's unanimous that McCue from Discord is being cast as the backup VA for Fox McCloud with 7 votes and no votes for anybody else.

    ElitasGaming/Trey Jones is our Lead VA for Fox. but McCue will server as the backup in the events Trey is unable to record.

    The Deadline is here, April 10th Auditions are now closed. I will be showing the auditions to the team on discord and Linked In and we will vote on who gets cast in what roles that were not already cast! If you're chosen, I'll contact you.

    Stay tuned as it may not be right away we pick. and also just cause one person is cast in a role doesn't mean I wouldn't consider yours as a back up. and also seeing your voice talent for joining the team over all!

  • We're going back to SFM instead of Blender

    TheReel1_ decided he's more comfortable using Source Film Maker and knows it like the back of his hand. He was trying to learn Blender but decided to go back to SFM for this project. so the 3D animator optional role has been updated with that.

    Also we have pretty well locked in casting now for Fox, General Pepper, Leon, Andrew and Panther.

    you can still submit an audition for these if you want.

    the rest of the roles we will likely put to a vote with our staff after April 10th.

Only going with his voice from Star Fox 64 from Rick May. The other times he was voiced were not near as good by other actors.

Slippy is a longtime friend of Fox’s from childhood and one of his wingmen in Star Fox. He’s an inventor and mechanic, and often very hyper active. Usually has a high pitched voice, originally voiced by a girl but Slippy is male. 

This is a voice that I’m okay with going with either the N64 voice for the character by a girl or one of the other two voices, by Chris Seavor in Star Fox Adventures or Mike McAuliffe from Star Fox Assault. I prefer the Star Fox 64 voice, but am fine with others.

Krystal is a Vixen from the planet Cerinia. Her home world was destroyed and she is the last known survivor. She has a magical staff, and was rescued by Fox on Dinosaur Planet, after which she joined the Star Fox team as Fox’s love interest. She has telepathic and empathic powers, able to communicate through thought and sense emotion. She speaks with a British accent.

Bill is a childhood friend of Fox, Falco and Slippy from their school days. Considered by many to be Fox’s best friend. He is an ace pilot in the Cornerian Army and head of both Bulldog and Husky squadrons. He himself is a bulldog. (side note, whoever gets this role will be a strong candidate for TMNT Michelangelo in the future)

Katt is a pink feline in the Star Fox games and the love interest for Falco. She’s often compared to being like Rouge the Bat but for Star Fox as a seductive temptress and often in it for herself. Though more loyal than Rouge. She has a crush on Falco and sometimes flirts with other guys to try and make him jealous. She’s a freelance pilot, not part of the Star Fox team. Was voiced by Lyssa Browne, who also voiced Slippy.

A grey wolf and rival to Fox McCloud, leader of team Star Wolf. Ex-pirate turned mercenary under the employ of Andross. Wants to prove he’s a better pilot than Fox and destroy the Star Fox team. Cares more about money and fame instead of any side of the war. Wanted criminal by the Cornerian Army. 

(can go for either original kinda British voice or later Texan voice, or combine both.) I prefer the original voice! but the newer voice is accepted

Pigma is a sadistic, evil and cruel hearted pig. He was once a member of Star Fox with the old team, with James McCloud, Fox’s father along side a younger Peppy. However Pigma betray the team and sold them out to Andross 10 years ago. He is directly responsible for James, Fox’s father, being captured, tortured, and killed by Andross. Peppy barely escaped. Pigma has now joined Star Wolf and constantly taunts Fox about his father’s death during combat and is out to get Peppy, to finish the job he started of killing his old team.  Pigma is easily one of the most evil and dastardly characters in Nintendo canon.

Andross is the big bad of the Star Fox series. The final boss, the main enemy. He’s an ape or chimpanzee of sorts with white fur (maybe from age). He’s a mad evil scientist set on dominating every planet in the Lylat System, especially Corneria. He commands vast armies, subjugates worlds, and hired Star Wolf to fight Star Fox. And thanks to Pigma’s betrayal, Andross killed Fox’s father, James McCloud 10 years ago.

James McCloud was the leader of Star Fox before his son, Fox. Fighting in the first war against Andross, he led with Peppy and Pigma. Once they reached Venom, Andross’s planet, Pigma betray them. James and Peppy were captured and tortured. Peppy barely managed to escape and flew back home, but James was killed in captivity. In Star Fox 64, after his son, Fox, leads the new Star Fox team to Venom in the second war against Andross, he appears to Fox as a sort of spirit. Guides him as a ghost and speaks. Which is where there voice lines come from.

(Not definitive casting yet, but Rex Diamond of RXD Voices is a front runner for this role as his natural voice is already very similar)

Yaru is a brown Tankui and serves as the tutorial in Star Fox 64. Originally he did not have a voice in the original game, but in Star Fox 64 DS, he finally has a voice. He is voiced by the same voice actor that did Wolf in the Smash Bros games, hence the similar texas sounding accent. He’s a very minor character, and I may not use him much at all. However would be good to have someone do his voice if the opportunity arises. He’s a mechanic, and very knowledgeable of the air craft like Arwings. Worked with Slippy’s father in his lore.

Panther is a newer member of the Star Wolf team after Star Fox 64. Pigma and Andrew both leaving the team, Panther was their replacement making Star Wolf a 3 person team. Panther became enamoured with Krystal during Star Fox Assault and is constantly trying to get her attention and seduce her, but she mostly ignored him. However, in Star Fox Command, there are multiple different possible endings, with some of them being bad endings with Krystal joining Star Wolf and running off with Panther, leaving Fox. Panther is out to get Fox’s girl!

General Pepper is an older hound dog, and Commander and Chief of the Cornerian Army and Military forces. He is said to be 49 years old in the Wiki but definitely seems older than that. A seasoned old war dog who banished Andross to Venom years ago, and hired the Star Fox team of mercenaries to help fight for Corneria against Andross and Venom’s forces.

This role has already been cast as Winn Manning. He is pretty locked in, however if you still want to give it a shot, you might surprise me.

This role has already been cast as Phill Mann. He is fairly locked in doing a voice that’s sort of a combination of his Star Fox 64 voice and the Star Fox Assault voice. 

However you can still audition for this role if you like. It would be good to have a back up VA in case Phil is unable to record. He is sometimes too busy, so a backup would be good to have.
