(Indie Horror Game) Spooky Tales: The Abyss Born (Voice Actors Needed)
Project Overview
A Game by Liminal Road
Spooky Tales is an anthology of horror stories, and The Abyss Born is the very first chapter.
The Abyss Born is an indie PS1-style aesthetic horror game releasing on Steam, inspired by the spooky, exaggerated pulp magazine horrors of the 1920s. The game mixes dark comedy with atmospheric maritime terror, following a fisherman who stumbles into a monstrous secret lurking beneath the sea.
It’s a short, character-driven, funny-but-creepy narrative filled with rough sailors, strange superstitions, drunken bravado, and a cosmic creature waiting in the deep.
The story is introduced by a sarcastic, weird narrator inspired by Tales from the Crypt, a campy, unsettling storyteller who breaks the fourth wall and introduce the player to the narrative.

“Wreckage… just wreckage. That’s all it is.”
“Come on, Garreth… don’t panic. Just anchor. Just wait.”
“No… no, that wasn’t a dream. I felt the water.”
The Narrator (The Keeper of Spooky Tales)
Role: Host of the anthology Spooky Tales, introducing each episode with sardonic humor and theatrical macabre flair.
Appearance: A reanimated corpse in tattered cultist robes, face locked in a long, crooked carved grin. Hollow eyes gleam with mischievous energy. Skeletal fingers gesture dramatically as he speaks.
Voice Direction:
His voice must clearly evoke the Crypt Keeper style: shrill, exaggerated, mischievous, and full of manic cackles. High-pitched, raspy, gleefully grotesque. Frequent sudden bursts of laughter, playful tonal jumps, and elongated, flamboyant delivery.

“Greeeetings, fright fans! Heheheheh! Tonight’s tale crawled out of the grave just for you… and it’s dying to be heard!”
“Tonight’s story slithers up from the bottom of the sea… where our brave fisherman learns the oldest rule of horror: never trust anything with more teeth than manners.”
“Our next story? A delicious little nightmare about a sailor who should’ve stayed on dry land… but where’s the fun in that? Eeeheheheh!”
Old Salt Fisherman
Role: Elder fisherman of the village, respected and feared. Carries stories that sound like myths but feel too real.
Personality: Serious, superstitious, fatalistic. Rarely laughs, and when he does, it’s unsettling.
Voice: Gravelly, worn, slow, as if soaked in rum and sea salt.

“Take the keys. And listen — be back before sunset. The night sea isn’t ours.”
“You heard about Captain Hargrove? Went out after dark… never came back whole.”
“Don’t be brave. Brave men drown first.”
Captain Hargrove
Role: Once-respected sea captain who mysteriously vanished during a storm and was later found drifting among shattered wreckage.
Personality: Entirely unhinged. Traumatized to the point of delirium. Speaks in fragmented half-truths, riddles, and warning-like prophecies. His mind flickers between lucidity and complete madness, giving him the aura of someone who has stared too long into something impossible and never came back.
Voice Direction: Thin, trembling, breathy. Every line sounds like it comes from a man on the verge of collapse. Sudden tonal shifts, whispered panic, unstable pacing. He must sound lunatic, shattered, and utterly deranged, as if fear itself rewired his brain.
