Smash Past (A Super Smash Bros. 64 Machinima Series)

Project Overview

This series looks into how the original 12 characters interacted with each other when Smash 64 was first created. Rather than the show having any proper heroes and villains, the show will revolve around everyone annoying each other since they haven’t adapted to living with each other. Some of these interactions will include Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, and Yoshi being a “gang” that commonly fights the Mario Bros., a rivalry between Mario and Link, Kirby and Yoshis fighting over food they find, etc. The series will end with an all out, star studded, slam fest where they all realize how stupid their conflicts were and make the choice to continue living in Super Smash Bros and expanding it by inviting more of their friends.

  • Seeking an Understudy

    Greetings, This Smash Past casting call has been reopened for the next two weeks in search of an understudy voice for Kirby. The previous VA hasn't gotten back to me with any lines or updates for the past few months now. Due to episode 3 being held back by this one VA, I have no choice but to look for a back-up for everyone's favorite pink puffball. The details for Kirby's voice, as well as a scene from Smash Past episode 2 with Kirby (as a voice reference) can be seen below. Thank you so much for the support and good luck to everyone!     Greetings everyone, I would like to first thank everyone for having the interest to join this project. You all had incredible auditions, so putting together the final decision wasn't easy. For those of you who haven't been casted, you may still get the opportunity to be in the show if a role needs to be replaced. Donkey Kong is a brutish character who also tries to take control of Smash. He leads an animal crew to try and stop Mario in an attempt to make himself the king of Smash.

His voice from Donkey Kong 64 is the type of voice I think would fit best for DK.

  • (Out of breath) “Ok. What’s going on? There are new planets, cities, castles, people, creatures… What happened to our world?”

  • (Confident) “Don’t make me laugh, plumber. I’m the alpha here! You will know me as your new king!”

Link is a depressed version of himself after being separated from Zelda. He uses Yoshis as comfort animals and often gets into fights with Mario since Mario thinks Link is taking they loyalty of the Yoshis away from him.

I'm open to any interpretation for his voice.

  • (Depressed) "Zelda, even if I have to wait for decades to come, I will not forget about you. I will wait in the depths of hell if I have to until I can see you again. If I'll ever see you again."

Samus acts as a more rash hunter who uses brute force. She competes against Fox, Captain Falcon, and Blood Falcon for the bounty Mario put on DK. She acts most aggressive towards DK who always tries to kidnap her.

I'm open to any interpretation as long as it makes her sound aggressive and deadly.

  • "You incompetent ape! I am not 'that Metroid guy,' I am Samus Aran! I am the most deadly bounty hunter around, and I am no man."

  • "Damn dirty ape! I am not a princess waiting to be rescued, I'm the one who's going to bring you in dead or alive!"

The main Yoshi leaves Mario after feeling abused by him and does things in spite of Mario, like join DK’s gang and befriend Link. He also fights Kirby a lot since the two often find themselves in the same areas scavenging for food.

Yoshi should speak in a voice similar to the Yoshi voice clips in Mario games.

  • (Scared) "Yoshi doesn't know about this. Yoshi kind of likes DK's offer."

  • (Sympathetic) "Yoshi knows how you feel, elf man. Yoshi needs comforting, too."

Kirby is a cheerful character as long as he has food. He is best friends with Ness and rivals with the green Yoshi.

Kirby should have a similar voice to the one he has had in the Kirby games.

  • (Angered) "Back off dino! I found these apples first! They're for me and my friend. Well, mostly just for me... but still, you can't have any!"

  • (Replying to Ness) "Well, he's Meta Knight, so that means he'll fly up here any second now. ...Any minute now. ...Uh… Any day now?"

I feel the voice of Fox in Star Fox 64 would be best.

Luigi is the loyal partner to Mario who was promised to be Mario’s co-governor. He’s a bit more timid than Mario, but not exactly cowardly.

The best fit would be a classic Luigi voice.

  • “Mario, what happened? The last thing I remembered was coming over to the castle to see if you and the princess wanted to have a spaghetti picnic and then a bright light flashed from out of nowhere. I was still here as well as the castle, but everyone around went missing. Everyone except for you.”

  • "Mario, I'm not sure how I feel about all of this. I'm not saying I don't have faith in you as governor, but this is DK you're going up against. You might be getting yourself into a mess you can't get out of."

  • (Timid) "I'm sorry bro. I should know that you've got this all figured out."

Ness is a shy kid who becomes best friends with Kirby. He often works with Kirby to get tons of food and keep it away from DK’s gang.

Ness should just sound like an average 13 year old boy.

  • "OK. I promise that if anyone tries to take out food stock, I'll burn them alive."

Captain Falcon is also after the bounty for DK and acts as the more sneaky hunter. He always gets the best chances at taking DK out, but is always stopped by Blood Falcon.

For a voice, some options are his F-Zero GX voice, his english F-Zero GP Legend voice, or just a voice that makes him sound kind of like a superhero.

  • "It's about time I got a crack at a new bounty hunting mission. Maybe this one will actually give me a bit of a challenge."

  • "Blood Falcon! I don't know how you managed to follow me, but that doesn't change anything. You're going down!"
