Skyrim Mod: Windhelm Castle Harakk

Skyrim Mod: Windhelm Castle Harakk

Project Overview

Hi, I'm KSpace. I've previously made two town expansions for Skyrim with custom voicework.

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/128258?tab=description

I've been working on a third, this time for Windhelm. Castle Harakk will extend the main wall of Windhelm to the west and add the titular castle, a small district in front of it, and several buildings outside. Voiced characters will add life to the district and be involved in a couple new quests.

I'm trying something different for casting this time, in that not every character has a strict pre-defined race and gender. I'm doing this to maximize how many people can potentially fit a given character. I've given the roles generic names for now, and each role will have a short description on how they're currently envisioned and what flexibility there is in casting them. Auditions for multiple roles are also welcome!

Scripts may need adjustments depending on how the roles are ultimately cast. I plan to send them out a couple weeks after auditions close. Also please let me know if you're open to doing pickup lines after the initial recording for any last minute changes to quests.

{Text in parentheses for the audition lines is just there to provide context}

Thanks to anyone taking an interest!

The Merchant

Role assigned to: Mike Harrison-Wood

The Merchant is the head of a trading league that contracts mines, mills, etc. to supply the city of Windhelm. They are usually polite enough, but very blunt and straightforward, and completely ruthless when it comes to business. They can offer the player a chance to buy crafting materials in bulk.

I currently have this character implemented as a male imperial but they could be a male or female imperial, breton or redguard

  • Yes I'm from Cyrodiil. And no, before you ask, I don't have any divided loyalties. My allegiance is to commerce.

  • This isn't a store, try the market square if you're looking to buy trinkets. Although... if you're feeling weighted down by gold I might have an opportunity for you

  • {After their offer is rejected} Well, it seems I misjudged you then. If we have no business I assume you can see yourself out.

Role assigned to: risiblezombie

The Hearthtender is the keeper for a lodge used by young nords before they embark on their coming-of-age ritual of hunting an ice-wraith. She is soft-spoken, friendly and usually cheerful, but becomes morose when talking about Skyrim's civil war. She can invite the player to participate in a hunt.

I intend for this character to be a female nord.

  • {When the player agrees to a hunt} In that case, eat, drink and be merry. When you’re ready, sleep here, and in the morning the hunt begins.

  • {When asked if women participate in the hunts} Only a fool would deny a shield-maiden the chance to prove her skill. I never dared though, I’m more of a danger to myself with an axe.

  • The lodge doesn’t get much use since the war began. There’s no time to celebrate a boy becoming a man when men are needed to become corpses.

The Barkeep

Role assigned to: Daniel Anderson

The Barkeep is the tender for a tavern called The Postern next to castle Harakk that primarily serves soldiers. He is a gruff person with very low expectations for life, concerned mostly with keeping the peace. He is suspicious of anyone who seems like they might make trouble, but tries to avoid angering anyone.

I intend for this character to be a male Dunmer, but there could be flexibility in both race and gender.

Language:
  • english
Voice description:
  • World-weary
  • male adult
  • Dunmer
  • humorless
  • You want a drink? I won’t turn down the coin. But don’t bother the soldiers. I don’t need the trouble.

  • {If the player says they are with the Stormcloaks} Then welcome. The Postern is here to serve. But eh... I can't be giving drinks away for free alright? Still need gold to keep this place open.

  • I fled my home with An-Xileel berserkers snapping at my heels. That was a long time ago. I don’t plan to go back.

The Priest

Role assigned to: David Pastore-Theriaque

The Priest is an Argonian shaman who has come to Windhelm from Black Marsh. They are aging and losing their sight, and effect the persona of a kindly old sage. They are usually humble and friendly, happy to talk with visitors. They are also secretly hunting a fugitive vampire from Black Marsh that has fled to Skyrim.

This character could be male or female. Their current story requires them to be Argonian, but that's a difficult voice, so if I can't find a candidate I may adjust the story of their associated quest and let their race be changed.

  • My eyes have clouded and my bones are tired. I don’t have much to offer, but sometimes the young folk from the docks come to me for the sage advice they imagine an old priest must have.

  • Ah, I’m very far from the marshes of my homeland, and I find myself missing them terribly at times.

  • I have a little skill in magic, but I only use it to help the dock workers. It’s the least an old Saxhleel can do for his kinfolk.

Role assigned to: CircuitVA

The Vampire is the main foe being hunted in a quest given by The Priest. They embraced vampirism out of a fear of death and now believe they have been cut off from the cycle of reincarnation that is central to Argonian culture. They express a certain regret for the things they've done, but are too comitted to their choice and ruthlessly kill any perceived threat.

This character could be male or female. Like The Priest, they are currently meant to be Argonian but if the Priest needs to be changed this character will be as well.

Language:
  • english
Voice description:
  • Ruthless
  • Morose
  • argonian
  • I don't need to prey on other Saxhleel out here. The old priest should have left well enough alone.

  • I haven't heard the Hist in a long time. I won't rejoin them in death, only the Void remains. I can't let that happen.

  • {Combat yell} Worthless blood-sack! Die already!

The Veteran

Role assigned to: Alar

The Veteran is a former Stormcloak soldier who was wounded and returned to Windhelm. He is a bitter, solitary man who now makes his living smoking and salting meat. He becomes involved in the quest to hunt the Vampire when one of his friends, a soldier at Castle Harakk, goes missing

This character is intended to be a male nord.

Language:

Voice description:

  • I fought my battles. Let the war go as it will, I won't raise a sword in Ulfric's name again.

  • {When asked about his missing friend} They said he fell in battle against the Imperials. Even put his helmet up next to the statue of Talos. It's all a lie.

  • {Reaction to player casting spells} Take your filthy sorcery elsewhere! We don't need it here.

The Gate Guard

Role assigned to: meowzi

The Guard stands outside the gate of Castle Harakk. He is bored and disinterested from spending long hours standing guard, but can be cheered up with a bottle of black-briar reserve. Not much of a true believer, the Guard sees his life as a soldier as just a job, and if Windhelm falls in the Civil War he simply continues guarding the castle as a Legionnaire.

This character is intended to be a male nord, although the gender could be changed.

Language:
  • english
Voice description:
  • apathetic

  • You can go inside if you have some business in the castle. But the upper floor is off-limits. Don't complain to me if you go snooping around and get clapped in irons.

  • Black-briar reserve! Now that's a proper drink! Alright, I know where this is going. What do you want for it?

  • {When the player remarks on them changing allegiances} Yes and what of it? It's the same job, standing in front of this damned gate all day. All that's changed is now I have to wear this ridiculous southern armor.

The Housecarl

Role assigned to: Thea Solone

Castle Harakk is given to the charge of a Thane of Windhelm, but he is mostly busy with logistical work. The Housecarl is the Thane's right-hand whom the player can interact with. She is a yound Nord warrior, proud of her relatively high position among the other soldiers and certain of the Stormcloak's impending victory.

This character is intended to be a female nord, but the gender could be changed.

Language:

Voice description:

  • Skyrim Nord
  • brash
  • Thane Andwulf must concern himself with the course of the war. He entrusts me with the day-to-day of the castle

  • It's tradition to have a ship's hull hung up in the castle's main hall. My own father carved this one here.

  • You really are Dragonborn then? Talos himself must have sent you to assure our victory!

The Bodyguard

Role assigned to: David Pastore-Theriaque

The Bodyguard is a mercenary working for The Merchant. He is an upbeat, confident warrior who considers The Merchant a friend and genuinely enjoys his role as hired muscle. He may send the player to check up on another mercenary, a woman he also has a romantic interest in.

This character is intended to be male and be one of the less common races in Windhelm. I'm currently planning for him to be an orc, but his story could easily be rewritten for a redguard or possibly a khajiit.

{note: Marsus is a working name for the Merchant in the line below}

Language:
  • english
Voice description:
  • male adult
  • Affable
  • confident
  • I've known Marsus since he was driving a vegetable cart to markets in Cyrodiil. He's always done well by me.

  • You pick up on things working here. I try not to let on how much I enjoy cracking skulls. Makes it harder to negotiate for more gold.

  • I don't want to come off as some doting nurse-maid fretting over another sellsword, but her caravan was due here weeks ago.
