Sinister Recluse
Project Overview
Plainwood is an unrecognized city-state in the mountains that grew up with the fear and dedication to spirits, including demons, ghosts, and left hands. Of course, once the left-handed Natalie Aureole moves onto the notorious Riverside Road, right next to the notorious House with the Statue On It, all of Plainwood gets riled up. Clearly, the salt rock stones, threatening notes, and mysterious tomes left all around don't help the town psyche either--and especially not the psyche of the owner of the Statue House, Eileen Pritchett
Sinister Recluse is a series of stories and scenarios involving characters from Plainwood, including The Statue on Riverisde and Plainwood, Arise and Awaken, a slice-of-life radio show about the weird daily routines of a Plainwooder. This casting call is specifically for Arise and Awaken but will also be for the Statue on Riverisde when it comes out.
I am a solo creator working as the writer, producer, and editor of this series, so voice actors are expected to be patient with time between episodes
Our main method of communication will be Discord, but it's not required if you don't have or want an account.

The Radio Announcer is the narrator for segments in between scenes in the Arise and Awaken series. They broadcast on a morning radio show that was recently just implemented in Plainwood, so they are still trying to work on everything and figure it all out. Despite this, the Radio Announcer is an upbeat, optimistic voice who speaks in a very chipper and conversational tone.
I imagine a voice similar to Leonard Burton from Welcome to Night Vale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_MObBZhOxs&list=PLQNcGmVgygljxhsB_ooCHqWVN2myXNCBh&t=155s
The Radio Announcer can be any gender, and their name will vary based on the preferred gender of their voice actor: Don Finley (male), Jodie Daly (female), Barri Rhodes (nonbinary)

[opening their morning radio show] Plainwood! Arise and awaken! We. Are. Live! Pleasure to finally be heard by all of you in this interesting sort of magic medium over here. Matt Kennett installed something called a radio in our here little city-state, which, how he describes it, is a combination of sound waves, vibrations, and a little bit of help from scéances.
But first, a brief weather report. I see grey. Lots and lots and lots of grey. Grey as far as the eye can see. Ey wait, no no no no no, I can see a little bit of white too.
[tuning in after a music break] Wow, I have not heard that song that many times in a row before! Anyway, welcome back, listeners. This is {{PREFERRED RADIO ANNOUNCER NAME}}, and thank you for tuning in to Plainwood, Arise and Awaken, your one and only community radio show that… well, simply put, your one and only community radio show.
This is an understudy role: Our current VA for Eileen is temporarily unavailable, so you will be acting as Eileen's VA for the time being.
Eileen is a jaded teacher from the city-state of Plainwood. Plainwood believes in demons, spirits, and superstitions, which Eileen completely disregards. She is moody, sarcastic, and reserved, but is playfully cheeky around her friends Patrick, Matt, and Vivian. She spites everybody else. Eileen is the smartest person in Plainwood and will actively search for things that challenge her brain. Her voice is relatively monotone, unless she is being fake-friendly, where she then puts on a hugely exaggerated tone.
An example of how Eileen has spoken in previous episodes: https://youtu.be/ywZyTa2xK6g?t=2259, https://youtu.be/w19x0BVfhwk?t=1656, (fake friendly tone): https://youtu.be/w19x0BVfhwk?t=2928

[Eileen is complaining to Patrick about needing to teach about spirits and demons, and Patrick is surprised she's complaining about a job she loves] Patrick, teaching is my passion! There’s nothing I love more than using psychological tactics to shape young manipulable minds. But it’s no fun if the most they’re going to use that knowledge for is determining whether or not to throw salt on their house every August to ward off evil lefthanders or whatever!
[Eileen is throwing shade about Morgan, one of her co-teachers] The kids like her because she’s the talk of the town in the boys’ locker room. It’s not like what she teaches has any impact on their lives either. Freakin’ social skills? Who needs social skills? It’s like teaching English. All the people here already speaks good.
[putting on her fake-friendly tone after being accused of not believing in demons and spirits, saying that they're "bull"] Bull? Bull?! Now why in the sinister world would I say that the cornerstone of our history and culture is bull? Look at our mayors back there, they seem terrified that you would even insinuate such an idea! …Unless… [chuckles deviously] …maybe it is.
Matt Kennett is one of the three mayors of the triumvirate for the sovereign city-state of Plainwood. He collaborates with his co-mayors, Cliffe and Archie, and focuses on his citizens' safety and morale. He is an indecisive man whose desire to please everyone often gets himself in trouble. He occasionally gets nervous, especially when talking about Sinisters, a type of spirit/demon. He is very knowledgeable about the topic, though, and will often speak about it without stopping. He speaks in short bursts and has a mid-to-high voice range.
Example of Matt's voice from previous episodes: https://youtu.be/w19x0BVfhwk?t=1648, https://youtu.be/w19x0BVfhwk?t=1899, https://youtu.be/w19x0BVfhwk?t=1820

[when asked by Eileen to give an impromptu guest lecture about demons to her class] Okay, kids! Who wants to hear the bloodcurdling tales of the Statue House on Riverside Road in excruciating detail?!
[Eileen's student asks him a question about what possession is] Possession really messes up your brain function. Just the other day, I confused my milk with my salt, and it really messed up my cereal! I mean, can you imagine eating cereal with milk?
[after Eileen asks him to enter Plainwood's house notorious for demonic possessions, and trying to keep up a positive mood] Oh, you certainly are pushing my boundaries today, aren’t you? You’re lucky I like you so much. Unfortunately, that’s the one thing that I absolutely refuse to—[interrupted by Eileen]
Patrick Wells is a man of few words but most of his words are either snarky or sage-like. He is Eileen's best friend and matches her dry, witty energy. His voice is smooth and average in pitch, and talks with a rather "cool" inflection.

[Eileen sneaks up behind him and unintentionally scares him] Oh my god! A simple “Wait up, Patrick,” would have saved me from the heart attack!
[Morgan is concerned about Eileen teaching a controversial lesson] Are you kidding? As much flack as I give her, Eileen is the queen of pushing boundaries ‘til they break. I bet you 25 Merit Tickets that she’s gonna wind up even getting a promotion at the end of this lesson.
[Morgan compares her old teachers from the States to a Plainwoodian teacher like Eileen] That’s because the States had these things called “laws” and “teachers’ unions.” There’s a benefit to being in a small tight knit city-state like Plainwood.
Cliffe Rhubis is one of the mayors of Plainwood, along with Matt and Archie. He is outgoing and easily irritable but tries to keep a calm demeanor. He is function over form and only does his work obligations because he has to. He would much rather spend time alone in a log cabin. He has a mid-high-pitched southern drawl and tends to abbreviate or slur his words

[coming in to observe Eileen's lesson, and already exasperated by her extremism] Alright. You seem to know what you’re doing. Just do what you normally do. And remember, we’re not even here.
[his coworker Matt is stalling when observing Eileen's lesson] Jesus, Matt, get on with it so we can go home and fail Eileen already!
[debriefing from the observation] So, uh… I’m just gonna write down here on this chart, “Remove Eileen from anywhere involving children,” if that’s okay with y’all.
Kyle Ling is a hyperactive man who is passionate about keeping Plainwood safe from spirits and demons. He is stubborn and opinionated and will continually persist and annoy others until he gets what he wants. He has a tendency to speak extremely fast and stutter between his words when he gets too into his conversation. His voice is high, and slightly breathy and nasally

[announcing an ad for his restaurant on the radio] Are you hungry? Think about it! When was the last time you ate? It’s early in the morning! It must be what? 8:04 or something? When did you last have dinner? And no, dessert doesn’t count, you heathen! Stop soiling your taste buds with all that unwarranted sugar.
[continuing his ad] Anyway, still hungry? Need some salt in your diet? Salt to overpower those disgusting desserts you put in your system? Cool! Great! Come to the Snowstone Lodge. We have food. This has been Kyle Ling, head caterer, not to brag, mic drop!
This role will play various minor characters. If you have a character reel, please submit it here as your audition. If not, you may submit the following lines
[ELEMENTARY STUDENT]: I wanted to say that! Um… Oh! I mean… [as if reading directly from a classroom poster] “I agree with Alyssa and I would like to add on that…” [talking normally] The left hand is sacrilege because that would always be the hand each Sinister Demon used to latch onto victims’ necks.
[LIBRARIAN]: I wouldn't recommend that book, for it carries a terrible curse. Only one though, so it's still technically PG-13.
[TOUR GUIDE]: Welcome to Plainwood! We have more than one public bathroom!
