Project Overview
Having been home schooled her entire life, Chrysanthemum feels swept away when she's forced into public schools two years following the passing of her beloved father, Peter. Arriving at the school, she meets a multitude of students, finding herself ensnared in the odd and terrifying life of a teenager. There she is befriended by Ashley, Jake, and the ever so mysterious Parker. As time passes, she becomes accustomed to school life, and is happy with her new friends. However, horror arises as she becomes aware of Parker's former relationship with Josh, a boy who somehow knows of her father's death. Caught in a mix between the common struggles of life and the mystery of her father's death, Chrysanthemum is determined to survive and break through, becoming the person she was when her father was alive.

Though his character is minor, he has many appearances in the story (almost every episode), serving as the unnaturally agressive gym teacher at the school. As you can tell by the all caps and such, he almost constantly screams everything he says. The sad truth is he's inspired by a very passionate gym teacher from high school.
Coach Day: [angry, shouting, agressive] HEY! YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!?
Coach Day: [angry, shouting, agressive] WELL THEN MR. TRUMAN! I CAN SEE THAT WE ARE EQUALLY MATCHED!! WELL, YOU MAY HAVE YOUR INTELLIGENCE AND FANCY MUSIC JUNK, BUT IF HAVE SKULL CRUSHING BICEPS!! SO--HAA!
Jake's voice is kinda quirky, he's a bit of a goofball shall I say. He's a fun character in the most part, but there will be times where deep emotion will need to be conveyed. He's always very confident, even when he sounds like a complete idiot. He's generally really in sync with Ashley, as the two almost act like a comedy duo. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each different line.
Setting the scene: Jake Talking to Ashley about Parker and Chrysanthemum. The two of them tease Parker and Chrysanthemum, constantly claiming they're a couple.
Jake: [Happy and excited] Ashley! We need a couple name for Parker and Chrysanthemum! I choose...Chryparsanker!!
Setting the scene: Jake talking Chrysanthemum about Ashley.
Jake: [sincere, serious, grateful] You know...I've know Ashley since freshman year. And for the first semester or so...I was a complete jerk to her. It was kind of a common thing really, I was just another jerk who made her school life all the more terrible. Still, when I lost everything, she was there. Right there beside me with a smile on her face. And for that I'm grateful.
Setting the scene: Jake yelling at Parker for being an idiot and jerk to Chrysanthemum.
Jake: [Angry, frustrated, furious] How big of an idiot are you!?! You think you can just break Chrysanthemum's heart and leave her there to pick up the pieces?! Stop moping around and feeling sorry for yourself! That's all you ever do! Do something Parker! Do something!!
Deceased father of Chrysanthemum. Peter's character is very wise, quirky, and optimistic. He doesn't let anyone push him down, never giving up. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each differnt line.
Setting the scene: Peter speaking to Amanda for the first time.
Peter: [romantically and flirtatiously] Stranger, I don't know your name. So I'll choose to call you Birtha. Birtha darling, you are a beautiful, fantastic woman. At least I assume you're fantastic, the beautiful part is a fact. Now if I had more than 3 dollars in my pocket which I need to later pay for the dental floss I intend to pick up tonight, I would bet every dollar I had that I would one day marry you. How's that sound, Birtha?
Setting the scene: Peter comforting Amanda over her parents.
Peter: [comfoting and wise] Amanda, all you life no one's ever been sorry for you. They don't see the pain you feel, and that's because you tuck it all up. So you waste away just feeling sorry for yourself, and that's what's keeping you down. You won't get anywhere until you move on. Let it go. It's okay.
Setting the scene: Peter to Chrysanthemum, shortly before his death.
Peter: [happily and with wisdom] Chrysanthemum, there's this boy I'd like you to meet. He's a real catch, I think. He's an idiot, just like me. But he's good at heart. You're gonna grow up to become a beautiful wise woman, Chrysie, but to become that wise woman you're going to have to see a lot first. You'll have to get hurt a bit, and hurt others a bit too. And that's only natural, that's just life
Ashley's voice is rather happy, bubbly, and somewhat wise. I don't want her to have an inflated high pitched voice of a cartood character though. She is a smart girl, and she's sensible and is a good shoulder to cry on, knowing what to say when someone's hurt. Of course, at the same time, she's crazy. Hince the first line. She's always happy when she's talking to friends, but she can seem a bit selfconcious and upset when she speaks to Jessica and her friends. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each different line.
Setting the scene: Ashley is introducing herself to Chrysanthemum for the first time.
Ashley: [Happy and friendly] So! I'm Ashley, I'm kiiiinda awesome. And I'm wearing pink underwear, just so you know. Yeah, yeah, you were totally asking that in your head.
Setting the scene: Ashley comforting Jake shortly before they become friends.
Ashley: [gentle voice, soft, a bit melancholy] Hey, Jake, I know it isn't much...but I think you're really cool. When Jess and all my other friends dumped be, I didn't know what I'd do. So, then I thought, if at least one person thought I was really, really awesome, and like me for me. Then why should I be sad? I don't exactly have a person who thinks that of me yet...but I just thought that maybe you'd like someone to think that of you.
Setting the scene: Ashley just being weird. It's a bit of singing, which she'll occasionally do. It has awkward phrasing but I just want to see how you do it. You don't have to sound good, infact, sound awful.
Ashley: [singing to the Spiderman theme] Chrysanthemum! Chrysanthemum! If-you-don't like her, then yer dumb. People say, her name is long. Well it is, but they still suck. Oh yeah~~~here comes Chrysanthemum~~!
Nicky is rather kind hearted, but knows when to be firm or rough. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each differnt line.
Setting the scene: Nicky explaining situtation with Josh to Chrysanthemum
Nicky: [explaining] Okay, so here's the deal with Jess' boyfriend. Jess is crazy about him, but...we don't exactly share her affection. He's trouble, that's about all I can say. So just stay clear of him if you can.
Setting the scene: Nicky scolding Jessica.
Nicky: [angered] Jess, pull your crap together because you're being a jerk! Stop treating Chrysanthemum like some slut, okay? Because it's not true.
Setting the scene: Nicky talking to Minnie.
Nicky: [upset] Jess is acting crazy, I mean, I wanna be there for her, but she keeps...guh. I don't know what to do.
Chrysanthemum's voice should be gentle but strong willed. She's calm, collect, and generally sounds happy (unless the scene calls for a different set of emotions). She can also be pretty sarcastic and witty, so be prepared for some of that dialogue. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each different line.
Setting the scene: Chrysanthemum explaining her name to Jake, Parker, and Ashley not long after meeting.
Chrysanthemum: [happy and pleased] Yeah, I know my name's really long. (soft laugh) But I was a pretty impressive toddler being able to spell a 13 letter word. Crazy, I know, but I like my name.
Line 2- Setting the scene: Chrysanthemum angered with Parker after he does something stupid.
Chrysanthemum: [angered and irritated] Gosh darn it Parker...I'm getting tired of all this crap.
Line 3- Setting the scene: Chrysanthemum sobbing to Parker after a big fight with her mom.
Chrysanthemum: [sad] I wanna go home...please...I just wanna go home...
Parker's voice should be rough, strong, and firm. He often sounds irritated when he's talking to Ashley or Jake (simply because the two of them are psychopaths), but he is much more gentle and kind when he talks to Chrysanthemum. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each different line.
Setting the scene: Parker is talking to Ashley and Jake, explaining to them why they shouldn't murder Jessica.
Parker: [slightly irritated, tired] (sighs) Guys...I already told you guys that you shouldn't murder Jess. The most we can do is hope for spontaneous human combustion.
Setting the scene: Parker is comforting Chrysanthemum after a small bullying epedemic occurs in school.
Parker: [comforting] Look Chrysanthemum, people suck. It's a known fact. They're oblivious to how they hurt people so they stomp all over good people like you because they think it's fun. But cowering into the dark is only gonna leave em' laughing. Look, I'm gonna be there with you, so you don't have to be scared. Just trust me.
Setting the scene: Parker fighting with Chrysanthemum over conflict they had.
Parker: [Angry and frustrated] Chrysanthemum! You don't know crap about what it's like to have a dad who's never once been there for you! You had this perfect, flawless picture of a family so don't tell me you understand! My mom abandoned me because she was sick and tired of my dad's endless affairs. My dad only sticks around because he doesn't have a choice! You may have lost your dad, but at least you had one to begin with!
Mother of Chrysanthemum, main character. Amanda's voice is rather strong willed, forward, and almost rough. She's got sass, she's not afraid to speak her mind, and she's strong willed. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each different line.
Setting the scene: Amanda explaining High School to Chrysanthemum.
Amanda: [instructional] Okay Chrysie, you and I need to have a chit chat about school. For one thing, there is no singing and dancing in high school, I'm sorry, but Disney lied. Also, don't let your knees touch the bottom of the desks, and don't look underneath to see why. Most importantly, don't ask for directions or you'll be called "freshie" for the rest of your high school career.
Setting the scene: Amanda talking to Chrysanthemum explaining difficulties after father's passing.
Amanda: [angered and near tears] Chrysanthemum! You don't understand how hard its been these last two years!! I have to go to bed alone every night! I look at my ring and all I can do is think of him! You've never been in love! You don't know the pain that comes with it when you its gone!
Setting the scene: Amanda talking to Peter post first meeting.
Amanda: [casually] Peter, I do not like you. At all. I mean, I have met a lot of people in my life, who have done horrible things beyond human nature. Still, I just can't stand you. Like, when I'm next to you, I'm imagining all the differnt ways I can murder you.
Minnie is rather bubbly, cute, and ditzy. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each differnt line.
Setting the scene: Minnie talking to others about drugs.
Minnie: [excited] So, I was like, talking to this really cool guy with all these face tattoos, and then he was like "hey babe" and I was like "sup face guy!" And he was like, "Wanna feel good?" and I was like "I already do!" SO then, he's all like "oh...I get it. You're already high, eh?" and I'm like "sorry dude, don't do drugs!" Then I saw a dwarf and we took selfies.
Setting the scene: Minnie talking to Chrysanthemum about Parker.
Minnie: [casually] I've basically known Parker since middle school--well--not "know" "know", but you know. I had, like, a class with him and stuff but we never talked. He always looked like he was in pain, like I mean made this facial expression that looked as if he was constantly constipated.
Setting the scene: Minnie talking smack about Ashley.
Minnie: [attempting to sound mean] Oh that Ashley! She's...she's a...she's a butt face. [frustraited] Darn it. Being mean is hard.
Main antagonist. Josh is rather cocky when he speaks, holding himself highly. He's rather fliratious when he speaks with Chrysanthemum and acts as though he's has some kind of power over her. Though he does act this way towards her, he can sometimes be sympathetic and show weakness when he's around Jessica. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each differnt line.
Setting the scene: Josh mocking Parker after meeting Chrysanthemum.
Josh: [cocky] So that's the old man's daughter? I'm not impressed, but I have to say. She's easy on the eyes.
Setting the scene: Josh threatening Chrysanthemum.
Josh: [crude and rough] Watch it, kid. Believe it or not, I'm not always a gentleman. In other words, I don't mind hitting a girl.
Setting the scene: Josh to Jessica.
Josh: [tired and weak to the voice] Jess...I'm tired of it all...all the lies...it's hard to keep up with after awhile.
Lucas is a seemingly wise character, who's very fatherly and caring. He's charismatic, and becomes a close friend to Chrysanthemum though he's her teacher. He also becomes quite close to Amanda, which leads to some difficulties. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each differnt line.
Setting the scene: Lucas convincing Chrysanthemum to pursue music.
Lucas: [passionately] Chrysanthemum, you've got a gift. The ability to bring the sounds flowing in your mind and bring them right to the keys of a piano is a rare talent. Your fingers naturally fall to the keys of a piano, you speak through the melodies you create on your own. You can't let this talent just die.
Lucas talking about his deceased daughter to Amanda.
Lucas: [gently and sensitive] A year ago, my daughter...Bailey...she was 4. We were driving over to the music store...she loved going there. It was like a museum to her. She was strapped up in the back, singing along to the radio as I drove. I pulled into the intersection just a block away from the music store...and this drunk driver came and t-boned the car, running right into the side Bailey was sitting...strapped in real tight...singing along to the radio...
Jessica is a rather confident character, she always attempts to hold her ground in an argument, refusing to let herself show weakness. She's really crazy about her boyfriend Josh, and tends to be very flirtatious around him. This set of lines will test your ability to convey emotions. Please hold a pause between each different line.
Setting the scene: Jessica talking to Chrysanthemum.
Jessica: [explanatory] Okay, so basically what happened between me and Ashley is mainly just her getting way ahead of herself and being just plain nosy. I mean, I'm okay with a friend not liking my boyfriend, but actually trying to break us up like she did, that's just dirty and kinda sick. I mean, who does that?
Setting the scene: Jessica flirting with Josh.
Jessica: [flirtatiously] Hey, don't worry about it. Tonight lets go out. Just us. No other guys or girls. Just you and me. And probably a looooot of kissin'.
Setting the scene: Jessica yelling at Chrysanthemum.
Jesscia: [Angered] What the heck is wrong with you Chrysanthemum!? What do you think you're doing flirting with Josh like that!? I can't believe you! You're worse than Ashley!!
