Project Overview

  • WHAT IS THIS?

Recolorbusters is a fan-made parody of the 1984 blockbuster Ghostbusters using characters from both the Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros. franchises. The series is meant to poke fun at Original Characters that are just copied-and-pasted versions of pre-existing characters, and also prodding at the not-so-normal sides of both fandoms. The series is slated to be in a radio show format, inspired by the works of Sonic and Tails R produced by EmuEmi on Youtube. 

  • REQUIREMENTS

This parody series is strictly for fun, and to have a laugh! Although when auditioning and voicing for characters, the less background noise, the better. Professional-grade microphones are not required, if your mic is able to record audio without it sounding robotic/choppy with alot of audio peaking, you're good to go! Due to the cinematic-esque realm of the project, the characters will be put into situations where they will have to emote GREATLY (IE Screaming, shouting, singing, making noises) so if you aren't okay with that, probably not the best idea to submit an audition.


Any software you record with will work, but Audacity is preferred!

A Discord account is also preferred for easier contact!

After losing their jobs at Fils-Ame University as Researchers, Doctors Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Mario, and Miles Prower, start up a Multidimensional Investigations and Eliminations Company. However, once business starts booming, the Recolorbusters stumble upon a Conspiracy that may leave the fate of their dimension in their hands.

  • Update 2: Like a frog on a hot plate!

    Good morning/Afternoon!

    Let me just preface this like I do most of my messages and updates: Thank you all so much for taking interest in this project, whether it is actually playing a Role in production, or simply following the progress of it, I cannot stress enough how thankful I am of all of you.

    That being said, I have another set of updates for you!

    Episode 1 is, for the most part, complete! Maybe needs a bit of workshopping on mixing and whatnot, but I am fairly happy with how it turned out! Episode 2 is also nearing completion, as with Episode 3! Now that I have time to work on things, production isn't as rocky as it was previously (and boy, was it rocky.. XD)

    As for the last few episodes, our main Villain, Cygris the Conqueror, has yet to be casted. If you are actively following production, and would like to give the voice a try (You don't have to sound exactly like Gozer, if you'd like to wing it, I'd love to see your takes!) please, by all means!

    We're not at the finish line, but we're closer than we were. I want to thank you all for sticking with me, and I cannot wait for you all to see the finished product! I've been working hard on it, and I hope it doesn't suck. XD

  • Update 1: Firing on All Cylinders!

    Good afternoon!

    Just a small update to inform you all that now that I actually have time away from IRL mishaps/roadblocks, production has been put to the forefront!

    I am a bit behind schedule, I wanted to actually have the first episode published fully by the anniversary of the original release date of Ghostbusters (1984) (June 8th) but that is no longer possible...there is still a lot of work to be done. Here's how episode progress is looking:

    Episode 1: Fully edited! Needs to be proofed to work out bugs in mixing/make things a bit cleaner, but for the most part, its ready!


    Episode 2: Around 30-35-ish percent done. Need some more sound files to fill in the gaps/put everything together.

    Episode 3: 80 percent done! A few more edits, tweaks, and sound files, and it'll be set!

    Episode 4 and 5 are still in the working phases.

Amy Rose is the Recolorbuster's very first customer once they go into business, the next-door neighbor to Louis Toad, and the snarky love-interest of Sonic. She's a lover of music, and plays Cello in the Station Square orchestra. When a threat from beyond their world shows itself, Amy is unknowingly chosen to bring forth the Dimensional Merge: a cataclysmic event that is set to unleash evil upon the entire city. 

Amy is a supporting character, and she makes appearances from Episode 2 onward, and has a lot of scenes shared with Sonic. 

For Amy, her voice would be similar to the takes in the Modern Sonic games by Cindy Robinson, giving off a bit more of a snarky and mature take on the character...although, other takes would be welcomed!

The character Amy represents in the story is that of Dana Barret, the love interest of Peter Venkman and one of the unlucky minions of Gozer.

An ancient deity bent on the destruction and reconstruction of realities, Cygris (pronounced Cy-gris) the Conqueror is a cruel and heartless Goddess (or God depending on the dimension its in) summoned to Station Square after the Containment Grid is shut off. Her sole purpose is to bring forth the Dimensional Merge, an apocalyptic event that will merge the dimensions she has claimed into one "perfect" kingdom...and she'll crush anyone or anything that gets in her way.

Cygris is vocally depicted as a sinister sounding female, and as a Goddess, she talks loudly as if to assert her authority over lesser creatures. Her character is a parody of Gozer the Gozerian, with some elements of a certain prominent figure in Sonic history sprinkled in (I won't say their name, but if you know Sonic history, you could probably make a good guess.)

Dr. Miles "Tails" Prower

Dr. Miles "Tails" Prower is the heart of the Recolorbusters, and one of the two brains in the operation. Tails is a whiz in everything technological, and Supernatural. If there's a book or report written about Multidimensional disturbances or a person seeing an alternate version of themselves in their Basement, chances are he's read it...twice. Although his brightness and intelligence can sometimes be counteracted by his child-like demeanor...and tunnel vision once he gets excited. However, no matter how dangerous (or dirty) the Call may be, Tails will always be there...CKE Goggles on his head, and Peppermint Stick in his mouth. 

Tails is a Main character. He's in the story from start to finish, and as one of the smartest members of the team, he speaks in a lot of technical jargon...and sometimes (a lot of times) it does not make sense. 

Tails would sound much like his counterpart in the Mainline games/Movies (Colleen O'Shaughnessey's interpretation!)

Louis Toad is Amy Rose's overtly nice/slightly annoying next door neighbor. He's short, a bit of a health nut, and often talks a much bigger game than he actually is, but if you ever needed your taxes filed or your finances organized, he'd be your man, er, toad. Through unconventional means, he unknowingly becomes one of the keys to the Dimensional Merge...an apocalyptic event set to merge realities on top of their own. 

Louis is a supporting character. He's in the story from Episode 2 onward, but he often talks alot/emotes a lot. 

Louis' voice could go the traditional Toad impression route (whether it be from the games, or from Super Show, i'd imagine mainline Toad's voice is hard to maintain!) or perhaps even a take on Rick Moranis' voice? Or even Keegan Michael Key's take? Hit me with your best!

If you know anything about Ghostbusters, Louis is a character parallel of, well...Louis. His role doesn't change much from the original story to Recolorbusters...mostly because I adore Rick Moranis' work.

Robotnik is the dean of Fils-Aime University, where Sonic, Tails, and Mario are employed. Once he catches wind of Sonic's antics in the lab, Eggman (as Sonic mockingly calls him) throws the three of them out of the University...but not before absolutely chewing out the trio. 

Eggman's role is minor, as he only has a few spoken lines as he absolutely rips into the team of three (but his anger is mostly directed at Sonic.) 

As for voice direction, I'd like him to sound similar to the mainline games (Mike Polluck) but I wouldn't be opposed to other takes of the character from throughout the years!

Shadow is a Violinist in the same orchestra Amy attends. Of course, when he and Sonic meet, they instantly become rivals, with the Violinist hedgehog's rough and dark demeanor greatly contrasting against the snarky and sarcastic scientist's own. 

Shadow would sound much like his game counterpart: Dark, brooding and, as Sonic would put it, a stick in the mud.


Although his role is minor, most of Shadow's lines are directed as harsh jabs at Sonic.

A cold-hearted Environmental Protection Agency surveyor who is dead-set on shutting the Recolorbusters down after meeting with a dismissive Sonic, Zavok is a no-nonsense mountain of a Zeti who takes his job very seriously. He defaults between two emotions: annoyed and absolutely enraged...particularly when it comes to talking with Sonic. 

If you are familiar with the Sonic franchise, Zavok sounds similar to how he is portrayed in the main series.

To compare his character to his parallel in Ghostbusters, Zavok takes the role of Walter Peck, an EPA surveyor with a massive ego...the difference being Zavok's explosive temper.

Peach Toadstool is a snarky city-girl that the Recolorbusters hired on to be their secretary. She's a hard-worker and willing to lend a hand in any way possible, but she is not afraid to call anyone out on their BS and tell it to them straight...although she has a soft-spot for the lesser spoken of the group, Mario. 

Peach's voice takes less from the mainline Mario games, and more akin to something along the lines of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, although a bit older.

Valerie the Recolor

Valerie is a blue recolor of Amy Rose that manifested in the Alhambra Hotel and is the first recolor the Busters hunt after they start their business. While she is relatively harmless, Valerie is seen as a nuisance by the Hotel staff, often drawing weird images on the walls with crayons and destroying things with her psychic abilities...did we mention she has an odd fascination with Sonic?

Due to being a lower-level Recolor, Valerie cannot talk fluently...instead making child-like noises and grunts much like the character she parodies, Slimer. Although, unlike Slimer, she can say some words (mostly just syllables) with varying correctness.

Luigi Mario

The fearful younger brother of Mario, Luigi joins the Recolorbusters after an incident with his plumbing company via what he describes as "a version of him, but in Orange" wrecked up his tools. He's a non-believer at first, but once things get serious, Luigi quickly catches on. Unlike his brother, Luigi is more vocal, but is definitely not as hardened as his science-driven older twin. 

Luigi's voice would sound like the mainline series of Mario games, but with a bit less shakiness.

The character Luigi parodies is that of Winston Zeddemore, the straightman of the Ghostbusters. Luigi is not as forward and fearless as Zeddemore is, but he represents the same blue-collar worker looking for a job motif.

The Mayor of Station Square, Blaze was definitely caught off guard once things started to go south after the explosion. With everyone seemingly at a loss for words on what is going on, Blaze has no choice but to enlist the help of the Recolorbusters...a task that she does begrudgingly. 

Blaze's voice sounds like her main series counterpart: Stern and straightforward.

Vanilla is the poor unfortunate soul that has a run-in with the Cwcville shocker in the Storage room of the Grande Station Square Library. She has a minor role, only having a bit of dialogue between herself and Sonic, but she sets up just exactly what the Shocker is capable of. 

Her voice is motherly, warm, but considering she had just been electrocuted, she's a bit shaken up from the experience.
