Johnny Joestar is a character that can be played with many different voices. That being said, it is essential to capture his internal struggle and questionable morality. He is a character that grows and evolves into a true protagonist, so the direction you take this role has to grow and evolve as well.
This role will have callbacks via Discord.
(Volume 1, Chapter 2) This 'story' is the tale of me starting to walk. Not in the physical sense, but in an adolescence to adulthood sort of way. My name is Johnny Joestar.
(Volume 1, Chapter 3) Nurse... Why aren't you answering? It stinks in here... It reeks... Damn it! Can't you hear me?! I said it reeks in here! I'm... I'm soiling myself...
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) The truth about your 'Steel Ball'... I won't give up. I will figure it out. Even if I can't catch up to you... Even after the race ends... I will someday.
Gyro Zeppeli can be primarily be played in two different ways. Either he is a hardened spaghetti western protagonist, or he is a goofy Italian who sings about cheese. Neither is inherently wrong which is why an ITALIAN ACCENT IS NOT MANDATORY. That being said, whichever direction you take Gyro's voice, make sure it is done with a deliberate purpose. Other than that, remember that Gyro is a mentor. While he still has room to grow, he should still sound reliable and mature.
This role will have callbacks via Discord.
(Volume 1, Chapter 3) Do you know the leading causes of death? The first is sickness carried by mosquitoes. The second is getting kicked by a horse and dying. Do you plan on changing the ranking?
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) Since I'm interested in you, I'll give you a hint. You've already found the answer... If you have the will to get on the horse, why don't you?
(Volume 1, Chapter 5) Whatever I can get, I'll take. (Except for diseases.) But this goes especially for a time bonus. Nyo ho!
I'm breaking my "Volume 1 quotes" rule for Lucy because it takes a long time for her character to kick in and do something beyond standing there. Regardless, it should be said that Lucy is not a damsel in distress. Her character arc is one of discovery as she learns about the horrors taking place behind closed doors. But as the Steel Ball Run race goes, on she is willing to put more and more on the table to do what's right. All of this leads to her voice being almost bait-and-switch in nature. She should sound innocent and dainty, but underneath should lie a true heroine .
This role will have callbacks via Discord.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) It's all right, Stephen. You've been a promoter for 40 years. Believe in yourself. Do your best.
(Volume 8, Chapter 36) He's going to be killed... My husband was just being used. When they don't need him anymore, they're going to dispose of him.
(Volume 9, Chapter 37) Maybe I've already involved you in this... Something dangerous is closing in on us. Please, just walk away. Don't ask any questions.
Despite having a really important presence in Steel Ball Run, a lot of Steven Steel's dialogue is dramatic showboating. The only thing you have to nail for the audition is capturing that showmanship, it's up to you for how you want to express his mature off stage personality.
This role will have callbacks via Discord.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) WAAAAAAAA! WHAT AM I GONNA DO?! I'M SO SCARED! WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN IF THIS GOES BAD?! WHAT IF THE RACE FALLS APART?!
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) This ice... came from a place called the South Pole, which has no nation. According to scientists, it froze 300 million years ago. We opened a hole in this ice and place the championship trophy inside.
(Volume 1, Chapter 5) Ladies and gentlemen from your respective fields... If you would please, would you like to follow the race by riding with the journalists and judges in that train over there?
Sandman is a decisive character. Unless you know how to give an accurate Native American accent, do not attempt to sound Native for the sake of it. It is okay to sound like a typical American character. What is important is capturing the pride and confidence that comes with Sandman's goal of winning the Steel Ball Run on his feet to reclaim his land. It may seem odd to say, "The white man" with a perfectly normal voice, but trust me. If you do not know what you're doing, you could be VERY RACIST on accident.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) The white man is the enemy. But... Protecting yourself by understanding the enemy's culture is another way.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) Big sis... I wanted to say goodbye. I won't be coming back to the village; I'm going on a trip.
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) Give me a participation permit. I won't be needing a horse... I will cross the continent with my feet alone.
Pocoloco is a lucky man. He is a carefree comedic relief and you don't have to push that archetype any further than it is. Most of the marvel and enjoyment that comes from watching Pocoloco is how there is no possible way a man this inexperienced to make it so far in the Steel Ball Run.
(Volume 1, Chapter 2) I'm counting... Counting the clouds in the sky.I wanted to do this before. I wanted to see how many clouds I could count in one day.
(Volume 1, Chapter 2) But listen... I'm the opposite! "The opposite of the worst!" Starting next month, I'm gonna be at the happiest point in my life for two months!
(Volume 1, Chapter 2) Aw man, I've lost count of the clouds. Which one was the 48th..? Oh, I'll just start over.
Despite never being seen, The Announcer is one of the most critical roles in JoJo Part 7. Much like real sports announcers, The SBR Announcer creates a lot of excitement through their commentary and it's critical that your audition can do the same. For reference, I recommend looking at old-timey radio casts from the early 1900s. However, I will add that I believe this role can be played by a man or a woman. While a male voice is more historically accurate... c'mon. This is JoJo, let's push the bar and be creative.
This role will have callbacks via Discord.
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) All are lined along the beach! What an overwhelming scene! It's like a whole city.
(Volume 1, Chapter 5) The fireworks are up! That's the starting signal! It's 10AM on September 5th, 1890. The trans-North American Steel Ball Run has finally begun!
(Volume 1, Chapter 5) And now there is a challenger against Gyro Zeppeli! Another one has jumped out of the group! He's chasing! He's chasing! He's chasing and closing in on Gyro! It's Diego Brando!
I feel as though I'm cheating for not marking the Clerk as a lead. The clerks are nasally little guys that are consistently present throughout Steel Ball Run. I would love to have one voice actor play all of them, but let's face it. If it came down to it this is the one role that could be easily replaced. They're almost a running gag of sorts, so be creative and distinct for how you think they should sound.
There will be callbacks for this role via Discord.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) When the $1,200 entry fee is paid, there will be no refunds due to personal reasons. The start of the race in 2 days will be held rain or shine. Please sign here to acknowledge the rules.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) Wh- Of course not! This isn't a general store. I haven't issued a receipt so what's short is short.
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) This is..! It's covered in sand but- An emerald? A real one!? Where did you find it? Are there more, Indian?
Ladies and gentlemen, the Leaky Eye Luca of Steel Ball Run. There is absolutely no strict way to play the thief, all you have to do is sound like a scummy rat bastard.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) What the hell?! I was just making small talk! I was just curious... Why do you have these things in your gun belt?!
(Volume 1, Chapter 2) Damn! He got my gun! HYAHAHAHAHA! If I felt like it... You'd be dead now! You're perceptive, but such an easy kill.
(Volume 1, Chapter 2) Hey... I'm getting scared by your face. Everything I said was just a joke! I'm just a pick-pocket... Good luck! With the race I mean.... heh heh...
The same logic behind Sandman applies to his sister. Unless you 100% know how a Native American accent is supposed to sound, please refrain from doing a Native accent. It's absolutely okay to play this role without an accent. Sandman's sister doesn't exactly carry a lot of weight in Steel Ball Run as a whole. On a separate note, pronounce Sandman as Sah-ndman. This is to hint at Sandman's true name without being obvious about it.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) We're going back together Sandman! I'll apologize with you. Promise to the elder and the chief and everyone that you won't read the white man's books anymore.
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) Sandman, then... you'll need it right..? Take it. It's a keepsake from mom and dad.
Avdol shows up, says two things, and then runs into a cactus & dies. Why is he listed as a minor character? Because I say so. Bye Bye.
(Volume 1, Chapter 5) If anyone is getting the "time bonus", it's me Avdol, I'm sorry to say.
This is the role that I wouldn't be surprised if no one got cast for. This role requires a realistic Native American accent. Please do your research. Also, pronounce Sandman as Sah-ndman to hint at Sandman's true name.
This role will will have multiple casts.
(Volume 1, Chapter 1) It's the troublemaker, Sandman. You can't protect him anymore, chief. The white man's books... they were hidden in his tent.
This role is listed separately, because the shooter's scene requires a very unique emotion. It's unhinged and we need to just barely justify why Johnny was shot.
(Volume 1, Chapter 3) I... I've been standing in line... Since last night...
(Volume 1, Chapter 3) The back of the line. Is over there... I was standing in line through the night!
While this role isn't all too significant, there is a certain cruelty and roughness that has to carry through in order to add to the atmosphere of Johnny's backstory.
(Volume 1, Chapter 3) Shut the hell up, "Mr. genius Jockey." You're going to wake up the other patients.
You don't have to read all provided lines, this is just to ensure that you can do a convincing background voice with a decent quality mic.

(Volume 1, Chapter 2) There's no problem. It was just a duel. No laws were broken... Let him go.
(Volume 1, Chapter 4) I predict more than half the people will drop out in the first week. No... maybe more than two-thirds.
The Steel Ball Run is the most important race humankind has ever seen. I'm going to win.
