Pokémon Adventures is a manga series authored by Hidenori Kusaka. Unlike the anime—which, though drawing much inspiration from the games, does not follow them exactly—Pokémon Adventures is a mostly game-based manga, with the twenty-one main characters taking their names from the core series games and their various adventures tending to stay restricted to their home region. Also unlike the anime, which has gone to great lengths to indicate the danger of a Legendary Pokémon being captured, the main characters of Pokémon Adventures have captured and sometimes use their own legends, much as the player can in the games. Pokémon Adventures also contains darker elements than other media, including certain characters and some Pokémon actually dying.
The Diamond and Pearl chapter follows the adventures of Diamond, Pearl, and Lady Platinum Berlitz as they travel through Sinnoh towards Mt. Coronet. The aim of the journey is for Platinum to fulfill a family tradition by using a material from the mountain's summit to create an accessory bearing the Berlitz family crest. However, a misunderstanding leads her bodyguards to be switched with Diamond and Pearl, who think they are in a reality TV show with Platinum as a tour guide.
The journey is made difficult as the group get detoured by Team Galactic numerous times which in turn causes Team Galactic to get irritated by them. During their travels, Diamond and Pearl frequently practice their manzai comedy routine while Platinum decides to test her skills by challenging Gym Leaders and Contests.

The Antagonist of this tale! He is the leader of the infamous... Team Galactic! I imagine him having a deep monotone voice.
"Why do you get in my way...?"
"No, there is no way you would understand. None of you even know what 'Time' and 'Space' mean!"
"That's enough. You're attempting to stop my plan only because you believe in those foolish ideas."
The Gym Leader of Oreburgh City. He is the son of the Canalave City gym leader, Byron. His specialty is Rock-type Pokemon.
"Every day, I toughened myself up by digging up Fossils nonstop. Could I show you how tough I am in a battle?"
"When I became a Gym Leader, I finally realized how great my dad is. Not that I'd ever admit that to him, of course."
Mars is one of Team Galactic's four Commanders in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. She is very playful, and acts like that of a child. However, when she gets serious... She's serious!
"I'm one of Team Galactic's three Commanders. We've been trying to create a new world that's better than this one... But people have shown little understanding about what we do. You don't understand either, do you? It's a little saddening... So, let's have a battle to decide what we should do next. If I win, you leave. If you win, we, Team Galactic, will leave!"
"OK! That's it for me! I'm going to look for Master Cyrus. The Distortion World, was it called? I should go there, right? I'm quits with Team Galactic. Jupiter, you can deal with it!"
Cynthis is the strongest trainer in all of Sinnoh... The Pokemon League Champion!
"This place... Can you feel it? There are no Pokémon here at all. Time isn't flowing and space isn't stable. A world where the rules are broken. A space one might call the Distortion World... Let's find Giratina. We need it to stop the spreading distortion at the Spear Pillar..."
"No...! I'm sorry I took so long. I think I finally found the answer from studying the myths. When this world was made, Dialga and Palkia appeared. Apparently, there was one more Pokémon that appeared at the same time. A Pokémon with as much power as Dialga and Palkia... But also one whose name was never to be spoken--Giratina! It's said to lurk in another world... A world on the opposite side of ours... That's what the shadow was. It must have been Giratina. The pillars are distorting... It's because of that portal. It's joined us to the other world. If it's not closed, the distortion will spread to Sinnoh and beyond... Our world will be destroyed... Are you ready? We have to chase Cyrus!"
The Gym leader of the Canalave City Gym. He is the father of Roark and the former gym leader of the Oreburgh City gym. He specializes in Steel-type Pokemon.
"I trained by pummeling steel continuously on Iron Island alongside Pokémon... Gwahahahaha! I could still use more toughening up!"
"Gwahahahaha! The Sinnoh region is vast! Tough Trainers like you three crop up constantly to challenge the old guard! With more young Trainers like my son and you three taking charge, the future of Pokémon is bright! But I'm not stepping aside just yet! I merely need to rededicate myself to training on Iron Island."
Maylene is the veilstone gym leader who specializes in fighting type pokemon.
"Hello. I'm pleased to meet you. I'm Maylene, and I'm the Gym Leader. I don't really know what it means to be strong, or how I got to be the Gym Leader. But I will do the best I can as the Gym Leader. I take battling very seriously. Whenever you're ready!"
Crasher Wake , otherwise known simply as Wake , is the Gym Leader of Pastoria City's Gym, known officially as the Pastoria Gym. He hands out the Fen Badge to Trainers who defeat him. He specializes in Water-type Pokémon. He is also Pearls Master!

"Hello, dudes and young lady! You're challenging the Gym Leader, are you? Let me tell you now, she's young, but she's a born genius. I tried training with her, and I was stunned by how tough she was! Whoops! I'd better tell you who I am! I'm the triple-threat Gym Leader in Pokémon, wrestling, and song. I'm Crasher Wake of Pastoria Gym!
Gardenia is the Gym Leader of Eterna City's Gym, known officially as the Eterna Gym. She hands out the Forest Badge to Trainers who defeat her. She specializes in Grass-type Pokémon.
"You know, people've been talking about the ghost Pokémon of the Old Chateau. I've been hearing rumors about sinister shadows, too. I should check it out myself, but going in there is... ...Well, you know, being that I'm a Gym Leader, I'm always busy. So, since I'm so busy, I can't go in. It's not because I'm s-scared! S-so, good luck with your investigation!"
"Sigh... This is so dreamy... The Resort Area's a nice place. Of course, Eterna is a good place, too. We have the huge forest, first of all."
Saturn is one of Team Galactic's four Commanders.
"I recognize your face! You're the child who raided the Team Galactic Building in Eterna! Humph! Jupiter should be ashamed of herself, being beaten by a child. But anything that opposes Team Galactic must be crushed! Even the very thought of opposition will not be tolerated!"
"You... You came all the way here just to save some Pokémon? ...Though its nothing new, I can't say I understand our boss... Why would he let a kid like you come and go freely...? We, Team Galactic, take all that we need, and eliminate what we do not. But anyway. You've taken the trouble to come. Let me welcome you! Consider it payback for insulting me at the lake."
Fantina is a sophisticated Trainer and Coordinator who specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon. She is the Gym Leader of Hearthome City's Gym, known officially as the Hearthome Gym, and hands out the Relic Badge to those who defeat her. An expert in Pokémon Contests, she usually competes in Master Rank Super Contests and is a member of the Ribbon Syndicate. Since she is not from wherever the story takes place, she speaks with a french accent!
"Yes? I beg your pardon? Ah, oui, Contests you are here for? I hope very much you enjoy them. Incidentally, Fantina, the Gym Leader of Hearthome, is also a Contestant. She is, how do you say, très fantastique! Fantina being myself, of course! Mmm, let me see... You also seem to be très strong. Enfin, so it shall be. I wait for you at the Gym!"

Candice is the Gym Leader of Snowpoint City's Gym, known officially as the Snowpoint Gym. She hands out the Icicle Badge to Trainers who defeat her. She specializes in Ice-type Pokémon.
"You want to challenge Candice? Sure thing! I was waiting for someone tough! But I should tell you, I'm tough because I know how to focus. Pokémon, fashion, romance... It's all about focus! I'll show you just what I mean. Get ready to lose!"
"What is it, Maylene? Did you want some Accessories? I'll give you some of my favorites."
"Giggle... I like lounging here."
Tower Tycoon Palmer, the father of Pearl!
"Huh? Ah! If it isn't Pearl! You've grown all sturdy! And Dia too! I haven't seen you in a long time, either! Pearl, your mother told me you'd gone off to the Battle Zone. So I had to come running looking for you. So, are you two going to take the Battle Frontier challenge? The Frontier has five facilities that are all dedicated to battling. Each one has a unique set of rules, so they're all different. Of course, you have to be good to win at any of them. Anyway, I'm satisfied to see that you're both doing well. I'll go back to my usual place in the Battle Tower. I'll be looking forward to your challenge.!"
"Pearl! What'd I tell you about not calling me Daddy?! I just want to feel my son's love!!"
"The first step of your training is to fight me. Come at me, Dia. I'm ready."

I'll let you in on one little thing. Our boss is researching the myths of ancient Pokémon. With the power of mythical Pokémon, he will become the ruler of Sinnoh... I suggest you keep out of Team Galactic's affairs from now on. This is your last warning!"
