[Paid] Please Wake Up -- An Indie Horror Game

Project Overview

Hello everyone!

I'm working on an indie horror game called "Please Wake Up". You can download a play a demo of the game here. I've written a simple script for a story in the game and would like to have it narrated. All roles are in the English language.

I'm looking for around 8 roles and paying ~$50-150 for each role (depending on the size of the role / number of words).

The voice acting part of the story largely takes place over a radio show (think something of the style of 60 Minutes or of a local news broadcast), so it's most of the voices are going to be of the following types:

  • Radio show host interviewing someone

  • Expert being interviewed by the radio show host

  • Reporter

There is one role (that of a doctor performing surgery) which is not of those types.

I would be willing to have one person take multiple roles (and be compensated relative to number of roles taken), but they would have to be able to sufficiently change their voices for each role.

Some Guidelines:

  1. Have fun!

  2. Please have clean recordings on solid mics (little to no background noise)

  3. Feel free to cut your lines to your best/favorite takes

You are a reporter/interviewer that is interviewing a science expert. Here is an example of such a situation

  • So we’ve established that memory is fundamental to our experience and identity. We’ve also established that memory is highly error-prone and flawed. How do we reconcile these two points?

  • But how come the patients report everything being the same? Wouldn’t the left side of the brain realize that it’s not receiving any information from the right side?

  • Alright, thank you for speaking with us Dr. Mass. Up next after this short break we will be interviewing Martin Dockery, the first patient to wake up from hippocampal stimulation.

You're a science expert who is being interviewed by an interviewer. (An example of such a situation)

  • Research has shown us that memories aren't these static snapshots of the world around us. Instead, they’re more like malleable stories about the past.

  • When she was nineteen years old the report was brought into question. New evidence emerged against Jane Doe’s claims. The marks on Jane’s hands and feet seemed to actually be the result of a skin infection.

  • Another series of studies looked at ways to take advantage of errors in this reconstruction of memory, otherwise known as confabulation. In one such study from psychologists at the University of Bedfordshire, researchers were able to plant rich false memories into seventy percent of participants

You're a science expert who is being interviewed by an interviewer. (An example of such a situation)

  • I think most people take for granted the idea that what we consciously perceive is actually an accurate snapshot of reality. Most people seem to think that our visual and auditory perception is just a window into reality.

  • We don’t just passively receive the world we actively generate it. The world we experience comes as much if not more from the inside out as from the outside in. We are all hallucinating all the time. When we agree on hallucinations, we call that reality

  • Well, for one it’s impossible to truly know whether what you are perceiving is actually reality. For example, you could just be a brain in a jar that’s being fed neural inputs.

  • Breaking News coming out of Taured County, Wyoming. Police are looking for a missing 10 year old child named Timothy McCollough who authorities believe is in danger. He’s four feet and six inches tall with short brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue T-Shirt and gray shorts. Taured County police say that he may be with his estranged father, 37-year old John McCollough who has recently escaped from prison. If observed, please call 911.

  • And good evening, we have exclusive details, a new communication that could be from John McCollough, the alleged kidnapper of the two missing children. Earlier today, we received a letter that appears to be from Mr. McCollough, although investigators are still confirming its origins.

  • One of the most well-known of such cases is of a man we call H.M. Surgeons had cut out his hippocampus in an attempt to reduce his epileptic seizures. They were successful at getting rid of his seizures, but there was a severe side effect: He was unable to form any new memories.

  • Another way this used to be done was by severing what’s called the “Corpus Callosum”. This part of the brain connects the left and right hemispheres of the brain. We call those who underwent this process “Split Brain Patients”

  • One popular explanation is that healthy people actually confabulate all the time. It’s what our left hemisphere just naturally -- it creates stories to explain our actions and feelings to ourselves. This is why the patients don’t feel any different -- our conscious perception of a self that makes decisions is mostly an illusion anyways.

Young Adult who fell into a coma and is describing the dreams that occurred during that time. He is being interviewed by a news organization / radio show. (Example here, but the individual being interviewed for this audition is older (think 18-24 years of age))

  • It felt just like real life, but also not at all like MY real life. For example, I was many years older. I had a job. I had a long-term girlfriend. I was in a different part of the country.

  • There were also things about the world that I just knew weren’t true. One that stood out to me in particular was of the Monopoly Man, or Mr. Pennybags. I knew for a fact that he wore a monocle, but in my dream world, there was no evidence that this was ever the case.

  • And then I woke up. I was fourteen years old again. All of my friends from Pennsylvania were gone. All of the things I remembered experiencing, like graduating from high school, meeting my girlfriend, and getting my first job never happened.

Doctor being interviewed and describing his research in the first lines. Doctor during an urgent surgery in the final line.

  • Many patients were also able to answer questions about pop culture. However, we found that when asking the patient personal questions about their lives, they tended to answer incorrectly. Because of this, we decided to stimulate the hippocampus to see if it would allow them to access their recent memories.

  • We believe that the re-awakening of their somatic nervous system, which controls conscious movements and actions, temporarily disrupted the functioning of their autonomic nervous system, which controls unconscious actions such as breathing and blinking.

  • [PERFORMING SURGERY] We need to remove the foreign brain tissue NOW. Get me a scalpel.
