The roles have been cast! Thank you, everyone who contributed and auditioned!
Hack and Kelsey have been cast to offsite actors, but Minnow, Sturgeon and Nulk will be played by people on the site. Nulk will be played buy one of the VAs who auditioned for Sturgeon. Other people who auditioned ended up working out great for others characters. You should get to see them all in a few days when the trailer is finished. As is, it's nearly done. Thank you all again. Everyone who made it in and even some who didn't will get recommendations as soon as the trailer's done. I hope to have it online by the 14th. -
A new role has just become available! Hack, the pirate warlord.
I had a friend in mind to perform this character, but unfortunately things fell through and they just don't have the time for it. I want to thank everyone's who's auditioned so far, and I've received a good amount of lines for the characters already, but this character is going to be a challenge. Hack is a very different personality than anyone else in the comic, and I look forward to hearing anyone who wants to take a stab at him. You can find this role right beneath Minnow's. -

Minnow is a 20-something autistic cyborg woman who's been through a lot. Born with four stumps, she needs prosthetic limbs to get around. She's the type who has a naturally pleasant if quirky voice, but speaks in a fairly jaded, "Whatever you say man," way. Not very chipper and sometimes falling into bouts of depression, she speaks plainly and has moments of frustration with other people who frequently fail to understand her needs. This isn't one of those stories where an autistic character has that "one special talent" like counting faster than a computer that redeems them in peoples' eyes. Minnow's just trying to make it through the day like anyone else, and wants to be trusted to make her own choices.
I've got something different in my head. My brain, it doesn't work like
other peoples' brains do. I've probably always been this way.I'm always disconnected. It feels like I'm watching someone else's arms and legs do what my brain tells them to.
I hear the way people talk about me. They'd say "She shouldn't have to make a decision like that on her own! Someone like her, she could so easily be taken advantage of!" and I am so sick of being spoken of like I'm five years old.

(Just to be clear, no stereotypical piratey "arrrrgh" voice here. Hack speaks... basically like a normal dude.) Hack is a smooth-talking pirate commander whose words cut almost as deep as his giant scissors. Able to speak circles around others, he uses his charisma to persuade potential recruits over to the cause, making it sound like their old lives are over and he's the only friend left they've got. All the same, he makes no effort to hide how stupid he thinks most people are. One of the pirate queen's most effective henchmen, Hack always takes prisoners, quickly converting them to be part of the queen's army both psychologically and physically. When he's done with them, they look and behave more like sea monsters than people.
I'll keep this simple. Some very wealthy people have hired us to reserve
the new land for them. If you do anything to soil this place, the
second I see you piddle yourself like frightened puppies, I will bury
you in that exact spot and mark it with an X for future generations to
find!Like mine and everyone else' here, your life belongs to Barrakuda, the
pirate queen. And the sooner that sinks in, the sweeter your lives are

An Admiral in the navy and father of an autistic person himself, Sturgeon is initially very wary of the prospect of Minnow volunteering to work for the Navy and assumes she's being manipulated. He's aware of people who'd use her for insidious ends if given the chance and he's become very protective of people with conditions like hers.
He's the type of figure who appears imposing and has a strong voice but speaks rather softly and keeps other peoples' heads in the game. Think Michael Ironside's performances in Starship Troopers or Superman TAS.
We need something bigger than this to combat pirate scum. Stronger
machines with stronger pilots. They don't bother with things like
tranquilizer darts or capture goop. These are toys.I don't think Minnow has any business being on this ship. Taking advantage of people like her... it's beneath you.

For the first couple of chapters, Kelsey is cruel to Minnow and frequently makes fun of her for being autistic and a cyborg. His behavior stems from a deep resentment for Minnow. Like many, he blames her for the death of the former captain (Andrea) of the Balena, the civilian ship where he and Minnow are neighbors for a time, and justifies to himself his treatment of her as somehow avenging Andrea. However certain events make him realize he couldn't be more wrong and if he ever REALLY wanted to honor Andrea's memory, he would do so by helping Minnow, since she was precious to Andrea. Not long after he starts treating her better, he is abducted by pirates. He's the kind of guy who probably thinks he sounds tough when he hears his own voice but sounds a little pathetic to everyone around him.
What're we supposed to call her? She let the former captain die for some stupid doll.
Look, no one on this ship really hates you. They all had this pipe dream
that Andrea would come to her senses and be captain again.We caught her adrift one night, no idea where she's from. I don't think even she knows! She's nobody!

Nulk is a Merfolk who warns Minnow's people of the increased presence of pirates on newly-emerging land. POC coded.
These pirates are no mere men with peg legs and cutlasses. They live
like sea monsters, waiting to ambush ships like yours. They've given up
