The Judge is well....the judge! I don't think he has an actual name. Anyway he's a funny old man who is very absent minded. You literally have to spell everything out for him in court which is fine because you need evidence to prove your case anyway. Even though he comes off dim at times, he's actually pretty smart and is a really good judge.
Ahem. Mr Wright? This is your first trial, is it not?
(Talking to Phoenix Wright before court is starting)
I spent a whole day looking for my dentures. They turned out to be in my mouth all along.
(The judge is reminded of this funny moment randomly in court.)
The prosecution will wait... I'm not finished eating.
(Trying to eat during court....yeah he's a funny old man.)
Winston Payne is the prosecuting attorney in Phoenix's first case. He's a small but confident man who claims that he never lost a case in his first 7 years of being a attorney. He's easily defeated by Phoenix in his court cases. Comes across as a very traditional kind of man.
Ahem. Mr. Butz. Is it not true that the victim had recently dumped you?
(Talking to Larry Butz in court.)
You went to the victim's apartment on the day of the murder, did you not?
(Talking to Larry Butz in court.)
Cody is a fanboy of the Steel Samurai show and idolizes the main character. He sneaks in the studio to take pictures of his masked hero, much to the annoyance of Windy Oldbag. He's very smart for his age. He's rude and unfriendly to most people except when it comes to Mia Fey. However when he is pressured he almost breaks down crying since he doesn't want to grasp the fact that the show is fictional.
But that's my card! By offering me something I already own, you're in effect eschewing the very basis of our consumer society, namely the principle of fair trade! Man, for a grown-up, you sure are dumb!
(Phoenix tries to trade him a card that he previously owned. Kid is pretty smart but a brat at times.)
It totally rocked! Right before my eyes, out came the bad guy!
(Cody testifying what he saw.)
Larry Butz is Phoenix's childhood friend. He's known as an idiot who has a knack for getting himself into trouble, even though he's a nice guy. He's a sucker for pretty women.
We were great together! We were Romeo and Juliet, Cleopatra and Mark Anthony!
(In court they call his dead girlfriend a whore. Of course he's offended even though they reveal she has sugar daddies. Remember he's dumb.)I wasn't dumped! She just wasn't taking my phone calls. Or seeing me... Ever.
(The prosecution says he was dumped. Of course he doesn't see it that way.)Don't worry 'bout me! I'll be dead and gone soon!
(Even though they win the case, he's still going on about his dead girlfriend who wasn't really his girlfriend.)
Will Powers is the Phoenix's client in his 3rd case. Even though he looks mean and tough, Will Powers is a big baby. He is an actor and plays as the Steel Samurai, a children's TV hero. He's a complete softy and is nervous most of the time.
It seems like it was only yesterday. Actually, it was only yesterday.
(Talking about what happened during the murder time.)The Steel Samurai is the lead character in a popular kid's show. He walks the streets of Neo Olde Tokyo... Fighting battle after battle against the Evil Magistrate and his minions. Of course, he never really defeats the Evil Magistrate. Although... I guess he did defeat him this time...
(Explaining to Phoenix what the Steel Samurai show is about.)She sucks up to all the bigwigs at the studio... But let her see you stumble once and she'll never let up on you.
(Talking about Oldbad the security lady.)
Lotta Hart is a fiery redhead who is trying to capture a photograph of the fictional beast, Gourdy. She becomes a witness later and gets caught up in the moment as she continues to make up her story about witnessing the murder. She's fierce and loud but well-meaning. She has a strong southern accent.
What! Don't try to play stupid with me just 'cause you think I'm some country bumpkin!
(getting mad during trial for being called dumb)Second-rate shutterbugs trying to steal my scoop!
(She's trying to find Gourdy, a beast that looks like the Lock Ness Monster.)
April May is an incredibly seductive woman who uses her looks to get out of trouble. She speaks seductively most of the time until she is angered. Once she's caught in lies she gets angry and loses all control.
I like a man with a big... vocabulary.
(Phoenix is trying to ask her questions but she just plays the seductive card to get him flustered.)What's it to you, porcupine-head!?
(Suddenly snaps at Phoenix when he catches her in some lies.)You stinking lawyer! I hope you die!
(Still mad as a hornet at Phoenix)
Manfred von Karma is a ruthless prosecutor who is known for having a perfect record. He is also the main antagonist of the game. He is old, incredibly confident, and arrogant but only because he really is the best. However he is determined to get his revenge at any cost. He should have a very rough and ruthless sounding voice.
Witness, you've had a long day. Shut your pie-hole.
(No explanation needed.)I set my ATM card's number to "0001" because I'm number one!
(Already claiming victory in court.)I've heard of desperate men grasping at straws, but this is the first time I've heard of men grasping at macaws! Hah!
(Mocking Phoenix)
