PAYDAY

PAYDAY

Project Overview

Payday is a 3.5-minute animated short set in the city of Melbourne. Blending absurdist comedy with gritty realism, the film trails the desperate and miserable Mr. Chau, a Vietnamese gambler with nothing to his name but thousands of dollars in debt.

Chau drifts through the city in a daze, moving from the flashing lights of Crown Casino to the quiet aisles of an Asian supermarket.

But he’s not alone. Two loan sharks, Horseface and Oxhead, are on the lookout for him. He owes them a lot of money, and its Pay Day.

    Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share an exciting update: the roles of Horseface and Oxhead have officially been cast!

Thank you all so much for your submissions. It’s been incredible hearing the script brought to life through your performances, and man, what performances they were!

Choosing the final voice actors was far from easy. The talent on display made the decision making process incredibly tough. But after a lot of deliberation, I’m thrilled to announce that @MrButtsTV will be voicing Horseface, and @TerramTraverz will be taking on the role of Oxhead. Huge congratulations to both of you!

As for Mr. Chau, I’ve found a voice actor outside of Casting Call Club who’s a great fit for the role, so submissions for that character are now closed as well.

I truly wish I could thank each of you personally. While I may not have time to respond to all of you individually, please know how deeply grateful I am for every one of you. You’re all amazing voice actors, and I can’t wait to hear all of the characters you’ll be working on in the future!

Horseface is a 45 year old menacing and cunning gangster with an unpredictable temper.

Originally from Hong Kong, Horseface now conducts his loansharking business in Melbourne Australia alongside his partner, Oxhead.

Mr. Chau, his old friend, owes a lot of money to him.

He should have a relatively deep and raspy voice (like he smokes a lot). Horseface has a very calm but menacing demeanour, so it’s important to get that across in his voice acting. Since he is from Hong Kong, it would be an added bonus if you have a Cantonese accent or can speak Cantonese, but we are not strict about it if you can achieve that menacing and deep raspiness detailed above.

Mr. Chau is the protagonist of Payday. He is a 50 year old Vietnamese gambling addict living in Melbourne, Australia.

He leads an elusive life, always disappearing for days, no explanation, no reason, leaving his wife alone to care for their son. He currently owes a lot of money to Horseface and Oxhead.

For Chau, it is important for him to have an authentic Vietnamese accent. He is a pretty reserved  character so it's important to get that across in the acting. It would also be cool if he could have a raspy voice like he's been smoking for years.

Oxhead is a 45 year old Vietnamese gangster. He is partnered up with Horseface. In contrast to his large and bulky stature, Oxhead is quite stoic and quiet.

He doesn’t say much in the film. We imagine he would have a deep voice. Vietnamese accent is a bonus, but not required.
