One Pound Gospel OVA Fandub
Project Overview
This project will be the fandub of Rumiko Takahashi's manga adaptation One Pound Gospel (1987- 2006).
This anime OVA is from 1988, around 51 minutes long. I'm looking for voice actors who are willing to set their lines in time, being cooperative and have fun with this project.
Leading roles' voice actors will most likely voice only them. When it comes to the supporting and minor roles, keep in mind that if you'd be casted for those, you'll be asked to voice the other extra characters in this as well since I prefer not to have too many voice actors in my projects.
What is it about?
The story is about a young pro boxer Kosaku Hatanaka who's great at boxing but has a problem with losing weight since he loves food. His coach is very upset about it and so, he forces him to have a starve diet. One day, hungry Kosaku meets a young nun Sister Angela who offers him food and that changes his life. (myanimelist)

Kosaku's a 19 year old pro boxer. He's very good at boxing, but due to his huge appetite, he struggles with losing weight. When it comes to his personality, he's very kind and considerate but can be a bit lazy. He fell in love with Sister Angela at first sight and is openly affectionate about her.
Voice range: Mid-low
I had a rotten fight. I shamed my coach.
But, if only I had one more chance! Then I’d show him!
(talks to Sister Angela after he lost a fight because he ate food beforehand)
Everything depends on your efforts. If you’re dedicated, the Lord will be merciful to you.
(proudly, repeats the saying Sister Angela told him)
Sister Angela is a 21 year old nun. Even though she claims to be fully dedicated to God, she hasn't taken her vows yet. She seems somewhat prude at first, but she gradually opens her heart to Kosaku as she encourages him on his way becoming the greatest pro boxer.
Voice range: Mid-high pitched
No, it’s all my fault. I was the one who tempted him. I gave him food before his fight.
And he’d been struggling so hard to lose weight. I have commited a great sin.
(feels guilty after Kosaku lost a fight as she talks to his coach)
Don’t worry about the fight. Mr. Hatanaka is going to win. (drunk but still innocent-like)
He’s probably starving himself even as we speak. Now, let us pray for Mr. Hatanaka.
Coach Mukoda is a man in his late 50s. He's a former pro boxer and runs his boxing gym where he trains future pro boxers. He has high hopes for Kosaku becoming a pro boxer. They somehow have father-son relationship. Even though he's a bit of a grumpy and strict man, he has a good heart.
Voice range: Mid-low
Good work, Kosaku! There’s still hope! You may be a spineless gluton, but you DO have a great punch! That’s for sure! (during the training)
Your next fight?! You moron! (shouts at Kosaku)
What makes you think you’re gonna have another fight?!
Professional boxers don’t puke in the ring! What boxer would take you on now?!
Ishida is Coach Mukoda's assistent. He's apparently a former pro boxer who helps the Coach with training his students in the gym. Same as the Coach, Ishida also believes in Kosaku's boxing skills and encourages him. He's in his early 30s.
Voice range: Mid-low
He’s serious about his training, and he’s working hard enough.
But he isn’t losing weight, he’s gaining.
(carefully explains the Coach Kosaku's situation, already expects his reaction full of rage)
Remember: Break your diet, and you’ll end up like this, the day before a fight!
But Hatanaka worked hard. Well done!
Amakusa's a Olympic medalist in pro boxing. He's a bit older than Kosaku, around early 20s. He takes boxing very seriously and his personality is pretty intimidating. He's more ambitious than Kosaku. After Kosaku unintentionally punched him twice in the face, he starts to hate Kosaku and wants to beat him in the fight even more than Kosaku beated him before.
Voice range: Mid-low
I just want to maintain a high quality in my fights, and to uphold the standard of the Olympics.
(talks to his coach)
That bastard! I won’t let him off with just a knockout.
He’s going to suffer!
(talks to himself during a fight)
Tabuchi's one of Coach Mukoda's students in his gym. Around his early 20s. He's often seen with Kosaku punching him during their training. He's a bit naive and lends his money to Kosaku when he betrayed him that he will buy new underwear with it but buys food instead.
Voice range: Mid-low
At first he only wanted 500 yen, but gradually went up to 1500 yen.
He said he’d pay me back after the fight. (explains to Coach Mukoda)
One of Sister Angela's friends. Julie works in the kindergarten near the church where Sister Angela helps with taking care of the orphans.
Voice range: Mid-high pitched
Good work, Sister! Time to rest. (after they took care of the orphans)
Ha! He said he’d see you! You DO have a boyfriend! (she noticed Kosaku likes Sister Angela)
Amakusa's coach wears sunglasses and remains cool.
Voice range: Low
Amakusa, I managed to line up that fight you wanted.
But Kosaku Hatanaka is the guy who puked in the ring.
This is your first fight after winning your Olympic medal.
Why do you wanna fight such a loser?
