Old Enough | Sims 4 Voiceover Series [REBOOT]

Project Overview

The year is 2005 and there's a new set of incoming freshmen ready to study at the prestigious Stonycreek University. The predominantly white institution found itself deep in scandal that could potentially ruin its reputation in the world of academia. As an effort to save face, the college has started to open its doors to a lot more students of color by awarding scholarships to deserving students. One of those scholarship recipients is no other than Alisha Jackson and she is far from happy about attending Stonycreek in the fall. However, she has other choice but to go since she can't afford to go to any of her other options. Not only does this ruin her plans of attending college with her boyfriend, but this is also taking her out of comfort zone by throwing her into a whole new playing field.

Once there, she meets several other students from different walks of life. The main thing connecting them is the scholarship program they all happen to be a part of. While adjusting to life on her own, she is faced with pressure of fitting in with her peers as well as temptation from an older guy who has trouble written all over him. In addition to that, the group of young individuals also discover that Stonycreek's past is a lot darker than they previously imagined.

Old Enough is essentially a coming-of-age story set in college that follows an ensemble cast of unique characters. Each has a story, and each will be told. The series also tackles sensitive topics like racism, classism, homophobia, discrimination, trauma, and violence.

LEAD ROLE

Alisha Jackson has always been a creative and storyteller at heart ever since she was a young girl. However now that she is 18, she has decided that she wants to pursue a degree in no other than law. Why you may ask. This career choice has a lot to do with her background. Growing up, it was just her and her mom who happens to be a lot younger than most moms. Her father was never in the picture. As a result of being raised by a single teen mom, she didn't grow up with a lot in terms or money and luxury, but she did grow up with a lot of love.

After being denied the chance to attend her dream college due to financial struggles, she has no choice but to attend the one school that offered her a full ride scholarship: Stonycreek University. This ruins all of her plans of being able to go to school with her childhood best friend turned boyfriend, Jabari. Now out on her own as an official adult, she is forced to put herself out there and meet new people as well as learn how to navigate being a young Black woman in a predominantly white and wealthy space.

Many would describe Alisha as a go-getter but at the same time she has an issue with advocating for herself. In addition to that, she is driven, passive, indecisive, smart, naive, careful, shy, and sometimes a people pleaser.

  • {flustered/awkward} "I'm Alisha Jackson. I don't know why I said my first and last name. That was corny. I'm gonna stop talking now."

  • {upset} “I was- I was confused okay! I don't know why it happened and if I could go back and change everything, I would in a heartbeat. Don't let this one mistake mess things up."

SERIES REGULAR [Pronounced SUH-LAU-NUH]

Solana Burns comes from your average lower middle-class family. Her mom and dad both work monotonous jobs to support her and her older brother. Speaking of her older brother, he is the epitome of greatness is her parents' eyes. I mean, he's in currently enrolled in medical school with a bachelor's degree already under his belt. Given that, Solana has had no choice but to live in her older brother's shadow.

Right now, Solana isn't too sure about college. She's somewhat good at school but she doesn't really find it too interesting. A big part of her attending Stonycreek University is to live up to the already high standards her brother has unintentionally set in their household. The being said, her major in school is undecided right now. She's trying a bunch of everything to see what sticks.

In her free time, she is either writing music, smoking weed, or meditating in the great outdoors to connect with nature. Generally, she is well liked by her peers since she is a very welcoming and radiant human being. Her downsides though are that she can be a bit irresponsible and confrontational especially when someone is hurting the people she cares about.

[If you have singing abilities, that's a huge plus!]

  • {interested} "I have two questions. One, how do you know this man and two, how is he so foooine?"

  • {caring/admiring} "And you know what? You're actually cooler than I thought you were. You do and say what you want when you want. You don't try hard to be someone you're not. I like that a lot in a person."

SERIES REGULAR

Tylen Goodwin is a sophomore here at Stonycreek University. There he plans on getting a degree in Secondary Education with a focus in English. This is because he's a writer with a huge interest in poetry and works of fiction. On the surface though, he is seen as the heart throb on campus. He gets the ladies with ease. In fact, women actually flock to him, so he's never had trouble getting any girl he wants. This all changes when he meets Alisha Jackson on move-in day. She's off the market and well, Tylen is up for the challenge.

After his mom died when he was a young teen, he stepped up and helped out his dad wherever help was needed. This led to him growing up a lot faster than he should have. His mom's death is still a touchy subject for him, and he covers up his grief with humor. As for his dad, he's a kind but broken man. Nonetheless, the love for his son never faltered. He's actually the very reason why Ty is in college right now after preaching how important education is throughout his childhood.

As for other interests, Tylen loves dabbling in music occasionally, playing sports, working out, and of course writing.

  • {angry/upset} "No! You don't get to call me that anymore cuz we was never friends. I was just someone to keep you busy while he was out the picture."

SERIES REGULAR

Jade Davis is a free spirit and always has been. She grew up in an accepting family who pushed their children to always be unapologetically themselves and Jade did exactly that. Her buzzed bleached hair and tattoos are both examples of her doing that. In addition to that, she also came out as a lesbian at the young age of 13 and of course, this was not an issue for her parents. It was simply a small moment in her teen years. Another part of Jade's identity that was different from her peers was her mixed race. Her mom is a white woman, and her dad is a Black man. After dealing with both racism and homophobia from a young age, a high interest in revolutionary activism was sparked in Jade as well as huge desire to make positive changes in her community.

She grew up outside right outside of Stonycreek and her best friend is actually Solana Burns but deep down, Jade wishes that there was something more going on between them. Solana is oblivious to Jade's secret underlying feelings. At Stonycreek University, Jade is majoring in Social Work and minoring in in Art. There, she is paired up to live with Avani Smith and these two bump heads like never before.

Jade is very outspoken and never misses an opportunity to advocate for what's right. Other words to describe Jade are passionate, bold, chaotic, and impulsive.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • {admiring/confessing} “You do so much for the people you care about. You're always putting other people's needs first and I guess I'm starting to wonder who's gonna take care of you while you're too busy taking care of everyone else. (pauses) In case I haven't made it obvious, I like you. Like... like like you."

  • {annoyed} "Fine, I strongly dislike her. (groans) There's no way I'm surviving a whole school year with her. (groans even longer) I need a drink. Like, now. I'm getting a drink."

  • "Well they could've at least put us in the newer buildings considering we're the shit. I mean we are giving this place bonus diversity points."

SERIES REGULAR [pronounced KEY-YIN]

Kian Thomas usually keeps to themself but he hasn't always been like this. Just last year, they were glued to Kyle Barrows, another student on campus. When you saw Kyle, you would always find Kian not too far behind. However, things have changed ever since Kyle disappeared a year ago without a trace and not even a word to Kian. Everyone seems to have moved on. Everyone except for Kian that is. He still thinks something isn't quite right with how 'his friend' left.

On top of the questions Kian has about what transpired last year, they also have new questions about multiple aspects of their identity and will go on to discover those answers as the series progresses.

At Stonycreek University, Kian works off campus as a waiter to support himself through college. Many would describe Kian as quiet, reserved, and moody. In their free time, Kian dabbles in drawing and getting high.

  • {fed up/accusing} "Why can't you just tell me the fucking truth?"

  • {awkward/thankful} "It's just that...today was very good day for me. It was actually the best day I've had ever since my... ever since Kyle left."

  • {bland} "Nice to meet you all. I'm Kian but just letting you know I'm still on the clock so I can't stay for long."

Role assigned to: Jasmine Rhayne

SERIES REGULAR [Pronounced UH-VAUN-KNEE]

Avani Smith has never had to ask for anything well except for her parents' love and attention. This is because her parents have always provided her with the best. That includes luxury items, branded clothes, and of course, a private school education. The being said, she has grown up very privileged and she doesn't hide that. As well as that, she also grew up with very religious parents who have high standards for what and who their daughter will be.

In high school, Avani was involved with the debate team and cheerleading. Her top school for college was Stonycreek University so when she got in, it was a no brainer that she'd attend. However, she's not on scholarship but after a mix up, she is forced to live in the scholarship dorm and her roommate is no other than Jade Davis. The two butt heads a lot due to their conflicting personalities.

Many would describe Avani as a bitch, and she would agree. In addition to that, she's a socialite as well as enchanting, snobby, and self-centered. On the outside looking in, she's the girl every guy wants and the girl every girl secretly wants to be. Her harsh exterior is actually a cover up for other stuff she has yet to deal with.

Voice description:
  • female young adult
  • {bitchy/condescending} "Next time you wanna talk shit, maybe make sure the person you're talking about isn't around to hear it."

  • {rambling/flustered/apologetic} "Whatever's going on between us-it's...scary and exciting, and something I never experienced before and (pauses) I don't want it to stop. You were brave enough to tell me how you feel and...I was nothing but a bitch to you."

  • {distraught/upset} “You know, your job as my mom is to protect me but all you do is hurt me….over and over and over again by forcing me into this-this mold that I’m never gonna fit into.”

SUPPORTING CAST

Jabari Dobbins is simply a golden boy. He's respectful, educated, and responsible. In other words, he's exactly what parents hope their child finds in a future significant other. His upbringing was pretty ideal. He has both parents in the picture and he's the middle child to two sisters.

In high school, he was very involved in his public-school community and found himself in a range of extracurricular activities and sports. Simultaneously, his grades were straight 'As' consistently and as a result, he got into his dream college easily: The Howard University. In fact, his two parents actually met and fell in love there. He was hoping to continue the romantic tradition with his girlfriend, Alisha but life had other plans. When it comes to his relationship with Alisha, they are your typical friends-to-lovers trope. They met in kindergarten and have been stuck together like glue since then. The relationship just recently became romantic their senior year when they found out their underlying feelings were mutual.

In essence, Jabari has a good head on his shoulders, but he does tend to get jealous easily. This is especially brought to the surface when long distance comes into play.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • {hurt/heartbroken} “How could you do that shit?! I’ve been in love with you my whole life and you go and do this?"

  • {guiding} “You’re right, I wasn’t there but don’t act like I of all people don’t understand. That shit was fucked up BUT that doesn’t mean you have to retaliate. It’s not worth it..”

  • {melodramatic/sincere} "How could I forget about my favorite person in the entire universe? And did I mention that my favorite person is also the most beautiful girl in the world? C'mon now."

Wesley Barnes (he/him)

Role assigned to: Rowdy

SUPPORTING CAST

Son to the President of Stonycreek University, Wesley Barnes has a lot of expectations placed on him. That includes pledging for Sigma Chi Omega which really is not the scene for a film nerd like himself, but he will do it regardless because he's a legacy and he will do anything to gain his dad's approval.

Wes grew up filthy rich. He never had to want for anything but still finds that he's unfulfilled. The only thing that brings him true enjoyment are movies and books. This actually led to him majoring in film production in college even though his dad isn't the biggest fan.

Many would describe Wes as the brooding type. He likes going unnoticed and mostly keeps to himself since he doesn't really relate the crowd he's been forced to fit into. Additionally, Wes also struggles with speaking up for the right thing and instead, acts as a bystander in most situations.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • {sarcastic/poking fun} "Nope, don't try to backtrack now Ms. 'Pre-law'."

  • {upset/apologetic/stammering} "It's-it's me...Wes. (exhales) I understand why you didn't pick up. Hell, I wouldn't answer my calls either. I never wanted to hurt anyone...especially you. (breaks down) He made me do it! (cries) I'm sorry."

  • {serious} "Hey, don't talk about my family."

Role assigned to: Joseph Bozlinski

SUPPORTING CAST [This character does use forms of hate speech]

Chad Connelly is a fellow student at Stonycreek University. He's highly involved the fraternity scene on campus and doesn't come from humble beginnings. In fact, this man is loaded. Furthermore, Chad grew up in the same circles at Wes. They used to be close as kids but as they've grown in different directions, their bond definitely took a hit. Although that's the case, they still coexist in the same circles in college.

Chad is the life of the party and is very popular and well liked among his peers but that doesn't absolve him from his obvious bigotry towards people different from him.

Given that he's year above the main cast, he was enrolled when the big scandal occurred and may know a lot more than he lets on.

Voice description:
  • male young adult
  • {drunk/welcoming} "Jungle juice is in the kitchen and the keg is in the living room. You're free to drink as much as your hearts desire."

  • {angry/upset} "Do I look fucking good? That bitch just made me look like a fucking idiot in front of everyone. (groans) FUCK!"

  • {threatening/smug} "I'll see your ass in court."

SUPPORTING CAST

Shanice Jackson became pregnant with Alisha at the young age of 17. As a result, Shanice had to grow up fast and she did exactly that to be the best mom for her daughter. During Alisha's formative years, it was mostly just the two of them. That doesn't mean that Shanice never dated because she definitely did. Those men just were never important enough to meet Alisha.

For the most part, Shanice is a great mom. She has sacrificed so much in order for her daughter to reach heights she could have never imagined reaching herself and that includes going to college. Due to her young age, she is cooler compared to most moms, but she can still be somewhat strict when it comes to boys and academics.

As for Alisha's birth dad, Shanice is very secretive when it comes to who he is and his whereabouts.

Voice description:

  • {guiding/warning} "But I was once like you. (a beat) I just don't want you to make the same mistakes I did. Boys only complicate things."

  • {angry/disappointed} "How could you do something so stupid?"

He is also the Wes' dad and wants his son to follow in his footsteps.
