Thank you all for auditioning! I really can't wait for this project to start, but my personal life is about to get busy, so rather than let the auditions stop, I've decided to extend the deadline. I'll be back in a month! Thanks.
Benvolio is the peace-maker of the Montague family, and wants nothing but for the 2 families to stop fighting. Tries to calm people, but usually fails.
*Calm and Controlled* I’m only trying to keep the peace. Either put away your sword or use it to help me stop this fight.
*Panicked* The Prince will give you the death penalty if you get caught. So get out of here!
Peter is a well meaning servant of the Capulet family. He is one of the highest ranking, as evidenced by his amount of lines, and by the fact that he actually has a name.
*Annoyed, but controlled* Where’s Potpan? Why isn’t he helping us clear the table? He should be moving and scraping plates!
*Calm, but slightly angry* Believe me, I’ll draw my sword as quick as any other man if I see a fight starting and the law is on my side.
At first, Romeo Montague is reserved and despondent, but when he meets Juliet, he is passionate, prone to changes in emotion, and utterly in love with Juliet. Be ready to do a lot of romantic dialogue, as well as being very emotive.
*Unhappy and slightly bitter* Here’s what love is: a smoke made out of lovers' sighs. When the smoke clears, love is a fire burning in your lover’s eyes.
*Romantically, softly, poetically* I’m not a sailor, but if you were across the farthest sea, I would risk everything to gain you.
*Angry* He’s alive and victorious, and Mercutio’s dead? Enough with mercy and consideration.
Juliet is smart and mature for her age at the beginning of the play, but once she's met Romeo, she is passionate, quite immature, and becomes rebellious. She's quite young, not even 14, but don't worry too much.
*Mature and calm* But I won’t let myself fall for him any more than your permission allows.
*Longing and Poetic* Forget about your father and change your name. Or else, if you won’t change your name, just swear you love me and I’ll stop being a Capulet.
*Panicked and Scared* Oh God, did Romeo’s hand shed Tybalt’s blood?
Violent, strong-willed, impatient, Tybalt is the pinnacle of masculinity. Always looking for a fight, and willing to protect the Capulet name at all costs.
*Angry* What, does this peasant dare to come here with his face covered by a mask to sneer at and scorn our celebration?
*Controlled but vicious* Boy, your words can’t excuse the harm you’ve done to me. So now turn and draw your sword.
MIschief maker, fun loving Mercutio is one of Romeo's best friends, but he can be serious when he needs to be.
*Playfully* If you’re a stick in the mud, we’ll pull you out of the mud—I mean out of love, if you’ll excuse me for being so rude—where you’re stuck up to your ears.
*Shouting, angrily* May a plague strike both your families! They’ve turned me into food for worms. I’m done for. Curse your families!
The narrator will say the lines of the chorus in the play. I don't really have something in mind for this voice, but it needs to be clear, and possibly posh, but this isn't necessary. Shouldn't be too emotive, as this is a narrator.
In the beautiful city of Verona, where our story takes place, a long-standing hatred between two families erupts into new violence, and citizens stain their hands with the blood of their fellow citizens.
But love gives them power, and time gives them the chance to meet, sweetening the extreme danger with intense pleasure.
A holy man of Verona, who talks with both sides of the family, and wants the best for them. Helps Romeo and Juliet at their time of need, but can also be attributed to their downfall. He is down to earth, friendly, but can get annoyed quite easily as well.
*In disbelief* Holy Saint Francis, this is a drastic change! Have you given up so quickly on Rosaline, whom you loved so much?
*Annoyed* Hold on, and don’t act out of desperation. Are you a man? You look like a man, but your tears make you look like a woman!
*Panicked and Quickly* By my brotherhood, the letter was not just a nice greeting. It was full of very important information.
Mostly calm, and wants the best for Juliet, the Nurse can also sometimes be quite emotional, but is always trying to make Juliet happy.
*Happy* You were the prettiest baby I ever nursed. If I live to see you get married someday, all my wishes will come true.
*Slightly panicked and annoyed* His name is Romeo. He’s a Montague. He’s the only son of your worst enemy.
*Grieving, Sadly* Oh, polite Tybalt, he was an honorable gentleman. I wish I had not lived long enough to see him die.
The father of Juliet. Doesn't want her to talk to Romeo, and wants to uphold the name of the Capulets. Can be calm and controlled, but can go out of control sometimes.
*Calm, but slightly annoyed* Calm down, gentle cousin. Leave him alone. He carries himself like a dignified gentleman, and, to tell you the truth, he has a reputation throughout Verona as a virtuous and well-behaved young man.
*Angry* Forget about you, you worthless girl! You disobedient wretch! I’ll tell you what. Go to church on Thursday or never look me in the face again.
*Sadly* Oh heavens! Oh wife, look at how our daughter bleeds!
The Prince of Verona, wants the Montague and Capulets to stop fighting, and threatens death to anyone who defies him.
*Shouting* You men, you beasts, who satisfy your anger with fountains of each others' blood! I’ll have you tortured if you don’t put down your swords and listen to your angry prince.
*Angry and Annoyed* Where are these enemies? Capulet! Montague! Do you see what a great evil results from your hate?
A mother who wants the best for, and loves Juliet, but wants her to bring honour to the family. She understands what it's like to be married young, and knows what her husband's like.
*Calmly* Here in Verona there are girls younger than you—girls from noble families—who have already become mothers.c
*Annoyed, angry* Shame on you! What, are you crazy?
One of the servants of Montague. Hates the Capulets, just like the rest of the Montagues. Mostly unserious, but is serious when needed.
*Somewhat serious* Gregory, I swear, we can’t let them humiliate us. We won’t take their garbage.
*Teasingly* You mean however they dare. I’ll bite my thumb at them. That’s an insult, and if they let me get away with it they’ll be dishonored.
Another servant of Montague who also hates the Capulet. Slightly more serious than Sampson, but still quite light-hearted.
*Teasingly* No, because then we’d be garbagemen.
*Annoyed* How will you back me up—by turning your back and running away?
Servant of the Capulets. Willing to get into a fight with Montague's servants after they insult him. Quite serious.
*Questioningly, a bit insulted* Hey, are you biting your thumb at us?
*Serious* Start a fight? No, sir.
Bethroned to Juliet, Paris is a man who is aware of how his family and the Capulets want to get along, and is also in love with Juliet, and will try to be with Juliet as much as he can.
*Calm, but feeling slightly romantic* She’s grieving too much over the death of Tybalt. So I haven’t had the chance to talk to her about love. Romantic love doesn’t happen when people are in mourning.
*Angry, but slightly calm* Condemned villain, I’ve caught you. Obey and come with me. You must die.
One of Romeo's good friend, he is trusting, well meaning, but still wants the best for Romeo, and will go against his wishes if needed.
*Softly* Despite what I said, I’ll hide nearby. I’m frightened by the look on his face, and I have doubts about his intentions.
*Sadly, and quietly* Oh, pardon me for bringing this bad news, but you told me it was my job, sir.
These are characters that appear in one scene or have multiple lines, but whose voice-actors will probably will have more than 1 of these extra roles. I will probably cast more than one of these voice-actors, and I need a range of these for different roles.
*Say something you think fits*
