What is TBK?

The Butterfly Kingdom is a community formed by the weight of various projects. Our mission is to educate while entertaining young audiences with a selection of exciting and imaginative projects and schemes; offer support to individuals interested to work creatively; and sustain a safe, operational and serviceable means of communication on a text and voice chat application called Discord. While working unitedly with our community, we are keen to step out of boundaries and are happy to be challenged with upcoming releases of plans, projects and schemes.

Our values highlight the importance of honesty, trust, respect and belonging.

In plain words, we are here to provide a platform of creative works to entertain, educate and excite young aspiring creators and individuals of our community.

For voice talents, what are we looking for?

We are looking for a selection of voice talents with different accents and styles of reading. This is to ensure the news recordings aren't becoming uninteresting for the audience. Please feel free to add your own characteristics, charm and quirkiness - that make the performance unique to you. However, make sure you remain respectful to the listener and remain impartial on the story at hand.

Please look at our specification guide and don't worry if you cannot achieve it yet. Our audio engineer takes the responsibility of these on their own - this is just to ensure your audio is clean especially during the audition phase:

  • Average tone levels at around -20dB

  • Aim for a true peek at around -3dB

  • Export to a 192kbps or higher MP3, with a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) at 44.1 kHz

  • Preferably exported in a single mono track

What are the requirements?

  • You must have Discord.

  • You must be 13 years of age or older.

Any Questions?

If you're looking for other types of positions (such as writer, graphic, audio engineer, video editor, etc.) or have any general inquiries or concerns, please message LACON#9136 on Discord.

FAQs:

  • What is TBK News Headlines?

It's a weekly digest of the community's latest goings-on with a short and snappy podcast sounded by passionate individuals of diverse backgrounds, skill levels and interests.

  • Where will be the podcast released?

TBK News Headlines will be hosted by Buzzsprout on SoundCloud and Spotify - with Google Podcasts and others following after. The latest entry will always be available on Google Drive to ensure that everyone can access it!

  • How many voice talents are you looking for?

We are looking for a range of voices without a definitive number in mind.

  • Do you provide sample scripts?

If you're looking to apply as a writer for TBK News Headlines, or you're interested in the script presentation before you audition as a newsreader, we are happy to present you with an example script. One is listed in the Newsreader's role description. For more, please message LACON#9136 on Discord.

  • I can only see the last three months of TBK News Headlines on Spotify. Why is that?

Kahpuh issued a statement regarding this peculiarity explaining “we are automatically omitting episodes older than three months to ensure the streaming app is not swamped with exhausted content”.

  • I believe the budget for these roles is too low. Why are they rated like this?

The amounts listed ought to represent an incentive for others while considering to audition — not compensation. All positions are listed as volunteer roles. With this said, ultimately, we want to compensate for our staff in the near future once TBK delivers its first debut project.

TBK is a young organisation based on several projects. We'll be publishing other schemes in an exordium to Monarch Network's release (our flagship Minecraft server network), which should present the community as finally public. And while we will still operate as a free platform, we remain hopeful of donations sent through programmes like Patreon. Because of TBK's benefit of a diverse catalogue of projects, this means some staff will be adequately paid before the network is published.

Some ways TBK is going to be funded are listed in a document: https://link.thebutterflykingdom.net/funding However, please note the paper is considered a draft.

  • Monarch Network recruitment campaign is here!

Learn more: https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/servers-java-edition/server-recruitment/2998734 The recruitment campaign to Monarch Network has seen a major update, "I'm seriously excited," Lacon confessed. "Not only we took the time to address obstacles with recruitment, but also planning, task assignment and more." It is the first time since February the project is, finally, opening positions in regards to project management and supervision. You may apply as a secondary lead project director for, previously codenamed, Project M. In an attempt to alleviate the strong demand of time and work pressure by dividing it between two, equally as powerful individuals, the forum thread sets grounds to explain that "secondary" does not mean less important. There's a planned letter from the CEO and founder of TBK, Lacon, regarding this update expected between 1st and 3rd of Oct, 2020.
  • Three new voice talents join TBK!

We have finished processing a batch of applications, welcoming three new voice talents to TBK! As we continue to review and schedule interviews, we thank you for staying patient!
  • TBK to be registered as a non-profit organisation — info in upcoming TBK News Headlines!

In the latest quarterly meeting on Sunday, Lacon discussed the plan to register TBK as a non-profit organisation in the UK. "There are several conditions we would like to reach before we would feel ready, yet the team and I remain very confident as the plan seems like a natural one," Matthew, project supervisor at Monarch, said. Over the course of Lacon's proposition, he mentioned how TBK will not change but rather adapt to become a legal entity with a mission statement and purpose in the world. Listen to sections of Lacon's proposition on our TBK News Headlines podcast on 14th Sept — this Monday!
  • Budget notes added to ensure clarity

We have added a bold note regarding budgets for each role to ensure we remain clear and as transparent as possible. Stating: The amounts listed ought to represent an incentive for you while considering to audition — not compensation. All positions are listed as volunteer roles. The weekly episodes are approx 3 minutes long with about 400 words. We understand this will be an undertaking for an insignificant commission. This is why we are looking for a selection of voice talents which can rotate between episodes - so that this doesn't become an effort but a passion side-activity over the weekend. We'll try out best to monetarily incentivise but this may not always be feasible.
