New Comic Series: Shadows of Tomorrow

Sai will be one of the main focuses to Shadows of Tomorrow. Sai has a younger sibling who’s been gone for about 4 years now, and he recently had taken in a younger sibling figure who died shortly after. Disaster seems to follow him wherever he goes, anything he loves is gone the moment he has it. Sai’s head over heels for Lene, even though they’ve just broken up. He has no clue why, and is blaming himself. He’s beginning to spiral, but he has a whole kingdom to run. It certainly doesn’t help that his advisor, Theria, is actually the reason Lene left him and she’s the deity about to bring doom to their whole world. Sai can be considered a main character in this series, he’s in his early twenties and is just trying his best to roll with everything thrown his way. For Sai’s voice i picture Yuri from Yuri on Ice, Kinro or Gen from Dr. Stone, Lyney or Tighnari from Genshin Impact, something along those lines. I haven’t got an EXACT idea, but that sort of ‘tall pale fabulously diva’ vibes while still being an emotional mess at times. If he WERE to sing, I picture Telemachus from EPIC: The Musical. I don’t think there’ll be singing, but that’s the closest I can picture in terms of how he sounds.

The deity of destruction, one of the three gods of Shadows of Tomorrow. Theria’s one of the ‘Moon Deities’, being the manifestation of chaos and delusion. She’s been sealed away for hundreds- no, almost a thousand years, stuck in a time loop to keep her docile and to prevent them from causing trouble. She broke the loop by breaking her mental state, driving herself to become insane just to wake up. Sai and his mother Jaiden were the two who helped her from the outside, and were the first faces she saw when she woke up. In her now broken state, Theria IMMEDIATELY latched onto the two. She sees Sai as a best friend and brother, and sees his mother Jaiden as a queer-platonic-relationship. She would do ANYTHING for these two, including war crimes! Zero hesitation. So now that Sai’s extremely depressed over Lene leaving, Theria’s getting depressed herself. She worries that Sai’s too focused on his now ex, and that he’ll forget about her. She’s desperate to keep his attention on her, and willing to use all of her tricks to keep him as dependent on her as much as she is on him. She’s about 2000 years old, her siblings (Kamui, the god of creation & Navar, the goddess of life) will appear later on. Once reset, Theria’s very obsessed with her sister and harbors extreme resentment for her brother. For her voice, i’m picturing something like Junko from Danganronpa, Luna from Dr. Stone, Riri from Romantic Killer, Fink from OK KO, or Strawberry Crepe Cookie from CRK. Basically VERY unhinged.

Lene is a reoccuring character, the now ex-fiance to the ‘prince of shadows’ and the right hand woman to the Great King Maru. Lene is one of the oldest beings alive, being one of the two first ever beings created. Lene’s around 600, and is very nonchalant. After her brother’s mind was cursed to practically revert him to a child, she became extremely stoic and focused on work so she doesn’t have to think about the past. Lene’s inspired by a Meowstick, as is her brother. She’s mystical and psychic, with the ability to look into the near future. In terms of voice, i’m picturing like Mao Mao from Apothecary Diaries, Kirisame from Dr Stone, or Financier Cookie from CRK. A take like that would be lovely, as she’s mostly monotone but is beginning to crack. When mentioning the ‘witch’, it’s the deity that cursed her brother.

Kamui, oh Kamui. The almighty deity of the Shadows of Tomorrow universe, the first being to exist. Kamui is effectively the main god of this world, as he is the deity of creation, the ‘Sun’. Kamui is about 3200 years old, a very stoic man. After all, they’re the first to exist. He spent the first 1000 years in complete silence and isolation among the stars, the void he calls home. He created the secondary deities, the ‘Moon’ and ‘Star’, his sisters Theria and Navar. Due to being the first being alive, they don’t really understand a lot of things. Tending to be very practical and cold, but he cares in his own way. Kamui is the deity of creation, while his sisters are the goddess of life and the goddess of chaos/destruction. The years of isolation with the only light being the distant stars has given Kamui a few deformities, mainly blue tinged skin and pale purple hair. His hair itself is liquidy, constantly flowing and adapting to zero gravity. Kamui’s genderfluid (haha pun with his hair being fluid I’m so clever), and is mostly referred to as he or they. But they can shapeshift into a woman if they so choose, after all they can just create whatever they want to have or make a vessel to inhabit if they want to keep their current shape but visit their worlds. He watches over all there is completely alone, always watching. In this sense, until he’s introduced as an interactive character he’ll be the narrator. He’s canonically watching everything transpire, so I thought it’d be cool if we have a bit of an unreliable narrator. He’s extremely biased with his sisters and creations, favoring the Soaars and Gualians over the other kingdoms. Why? He likes dogs and things that can fly. For voice references, he’s very similar in tone to Lene. Very calm and monotone, mildly surprised at times but he seems to have everything under control. References, I’m thinking something like Tsukusa/Moz from Dr. Stone, Shadow the Hedgehog, Tsukasa from Romantic Killer, Rantaro Amani from Danganronpa: Killing Harmony. SLIGHTLY IMPORTANT: I want to try and portray Kamui as neurodivergent coded and socially awkward. I’d love to hear some takes if anyone has their own experiences with these things! He’s awkward and blunt when someone talks to him as an equal, but is trying his best.

Jaiden Crest is the reigning Queen of the Soaars kingdom. Former flame to Maru of Luaars and now widow of Naomi Crest, Jaiden is the mother to Sai and Ash. Jaiden’s in her 40’s, a very elegant but childish lady. After losing one of her loves to war and the other over political conflicts, Jaiden promised to be the best mother and solo queen as she can be. She does her best to be a model example, being a kind queen to all her people no matter what species. But there’s only so much she can do on her own, and with the lingering trauma from the war she’s beginning to need to take a step back. Thankfully Sai is just about ready to take over her position, so she’s able to back up and take time to herself. For vocal references I’m picturing something like Sonic Prime’s rendition of Rouge the bat or modern day Amy Rose, Enid from OK KO, Ragatha from TADC, I’m not exactly too sure what I want from her but a sort of upbeat motherly figure. She will need to have a very extreme emotional range, particularly sadness.

Dr. Brown is a minor character, a member of King Maru’s cabinet and one of the two leaders to the Department of Peace. He’s considered an older member for someone of his lifespan, being in his forties. Dr. Brown sees Lene and her brother practically as his kids despite them being colleagues and older than him. Dr. Brown is mainly a negotiator and his job is to maintain peace between the five kingdoms. He’s a very dependable guy and the emotional rock of the kingdom, ready to defend everyone no matter what happens to himself. That being said, the new looming threat of war is beginning to stress him out. There’s only so much he can take on by himself, only so many people he can protect. In terms of voice i picture him sounding like Dr. Brody from Dr. Stone, Wildberry Cookie from CRK, or Joe from Sk8 the Infinity. Other takes are welcome, but those are along the lines i’d like!

Timely is one of Sai’s high ranking ‘servants’, one of his two main attendants. A being directly descended from Kamui, shown through his unusual skin color and abilities. Timely has a pocket watch to which he can jump to any point in the future, but he cannot jump back. That is why Timely is where he is in time, as originally he was from as far back as Lene was, approximately 500 years ago. Timely is the best friend and close companion to Doodle, the two often serving as comedic relief to Sai with their antics and cheerful interactions. Timely has to do all the talking for Doodle, but doesn’t mind. He’s just happy to have a place to belong where he is not judged, using his powers to look into the future to better serve his friends. He never goes anywhere without Doodle, no matter what he will not leave his friend behind. They serve sort of a Scratch and Grounder role, the comedic duo in service to a big boss. But y’know, not evil. In terms of voice, i’m not too sure what I’m looking for. Open to any interpretations, but I think Timely should be a bit more on the higher pitches. Maybe something like Saiki K from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K or Tighnari from Genshin Impact.

Doodle is a young teen, a distant member of the Royal Family in Luaars but he managed to find himself a member of the Soaars royal court alongside his dear friend Timely. Doodle is the direct son of King Maru, but an accident as a child left him blind in one eye and he no longer talks. Doodle may eventually find his voice, but for the moment he’ll only be making small little sounds similar to Nezuko for most of Demon Slayer. Maybe some internal dialogue. After his accident despite his royal blood, he found most of Luaars pitying him and seeing him more as a child than a person. He felt babied, and so he fled to the land of rejects alongside Timely. Timely pretty much knows all of Doodle’s thoughts, and so the duo is inseparable. No clue on voice, but a higher pitch would be lovely. More childish than anyone else listed so far, like Bennet from Genshin Impact or literally genderbent Nezuko. An echo sort of effect would be lovely for the internal monologue! Doodle may gain the courage to speak out loud one day, but that day is far on the horizon.
