Nautical: Animation Pilot

We are looking for Background Artists to be a part of our Animated pilot.

This Role is UNPAID for the time being until hopefully we can get funding through donations and Patreon. As an Artist ourselves I know this isn't ideal but any help would be very much appreciated.

Please note down your hours so IF the project is successful you can be reimbursed. It's not guaranteed though.

Style
The background style is painted with line work and similar to Disney or Anime. The story is mostly about the ocean so some ocean pictures would be fantastic in portfolios. Bonus if you're an Animator as some scenes may need some movement like water but not required.

Programs and Format

We are using the Adobe Suite for compositing and Clip Studio Paint EX for animation. Backgrounds need to be in PNG format with 4k Resolution or bigger to account for camera movement which will be in the script.

We are looking for voice actors to be a part of our Animated pilot. We would like for nationals who speak the characters language but are open as well. 

Age: 20 - 29 (80 years old but immortal)

Ethnicity: White British/Unknown origin from fathers side

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:
Olivia is a post World war 2 super battleship, the first conceived Nautical that wasn’t produced from a pearl but another ship. She's a powerful super class of ship with a nuclear core making her fiery and strong willed. She was born in Britain in to a British mum and at the moment an unknown father who she would like to find only knowing that she was conceived sometime during world war 2. With only a record of her origin she decided to run away to the rebellion who promised her answers. After being shown what humans have done to Nautical's she decides to stay and help the cause.

Key Relationships:

• Gnei - Gneisenau is Olivia's on and off boyfriend. Their relationship is more friends with benefits as Olivia is often seen flirting with others although Gnei is very possessive of her. She first met Gnei during a training session in the resistance and had her first missions alongside him. They had a one night stand which turned into causal hookups, blossoming into a flawed relationship. Although she cares greatly for Gnei, she doesn't really understand how romantic relationships work so she's very distant with her feelings towards others.
  

• HMS Hood - Olivia is Hood's only daughter and although Olivia adores her mum, she longed to find her real father. This leads to her running away and joining the resistance. Although she's fighting against her mum, she still adores her and wants to be emotionally closer to her. Their relationship has always been complicated as Hood struggled to see her as a daughter due to being the first ship to have given birth and still hasn't figured out how to be a mum which leads to Olivia wanting her mum's affection and respect.
  

Accent:

Olivia has a soft British accent hailing more from a BBC sort of style, not too posh but also not common. Her accent is very neutral and a little harsher in tone with a very slight twang of south west England. 

Voice Description:

Olivia has a calm and clear voice with a cold exterior when talking about plans. She speaks formally and rarely lets emotion get in her way unless frightened or angry in switch she can blow up pretty fast but it would take a lot to get her to this point. When talking about her mum, she gets defensive and emotional showing that she cares and still wants her mums approval having a sense of warmth in her voice. Her voice is smooth and doesn't break unless she's upset or scared.

Speech Pattern:

Olivia speaks in a calm and collective way with a precise and logical manner using no filler words. She speaks very technically minded and is efficient in her communication. She doesn't beat around the bush and gets to the point, not mincing her words when it comes to disciplining any of her teammates.

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:

Gnei is a world war 2 battleship who has evaded the law since the Nürnberg trials and has joined the Nautical resistance against the humans due to what he saw during World War 2 and how his kind were treated by the humans. He is a sly, two face character before he met his girlfriend Olivia who he obsesses over and want's to impress her. He’s dedicated to the resistance and their cause, he also hates humans and feels betrayed by his brother.  Gnei is known for lying and manipulating situations in his favour. He gets very defensive when it comes to any talk about his brother Scharnhorst as he fled leaving Scharnhorst behind. He's a prankster at heart and loves to make jokes at his own expense to impress his higher ups.

Key Relationships:

• Olivia - His on and off again girlfriend whom he obsesses over. He sees their relationship as stable and loving whilst ignoring the red flags of her cheating as he believes that she's just trying to make him jealous. He gets upset when people mock their relationship and gets fired up when someone insults his Olivia. He is planning to marry her however hasn't found the right time yet to bring it up.
• Scharnhorst -Gneisenau's older twin brother with a rocky relationship. The two were close during their childhood however after Scharnhorst was critically injured in World War 2, Gnei fled the hospital leading to Scharn's capture. To reconcile their relationship, Gnei tries to get revenge for Scharn by destroying Belfast (The one who brought Scharn down) Only to find that his brother fell in love with her and is working closely with the Royal Navy. Angry at his brother for not seeing the truth behind the humans and for falling in love with the enemy, he joins the resistance.

Accent:

Gnei has a north west german accent. He has harsh tones with a gruff voice similar to the song "Pures Gift für mich" by BRDIGUNG as a reference.

Voice Description:

Gnei has a rough yet higher pitch voice with a smug attitude and can get very emotional when it comes to Olivia. His voice sounds condescending at times and childish. He rolls his "Rs" and adds german words in when he can. (Bonus for your audition if you add some German phrases or words)

Speech Pattern:

Gnei can stumble on English words often and he tends to pause and think of English words. If he can't think of the word in English then he'll say it in German. He has an eccentric personality so his vocal range is up and down.

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:
USS Enterprise is a Yorktown class Aircraft carrier who is HMS Hood's Ex husband and Olivia's adoptive father. He is also known as the Big E or the Grey ghost and is usually embarrassed at his nicknames. Enterprise is currently head of the US Navy airforce and is a laid back person who puts his friends and family first. He loves his country and is often found with the US head of Navy, Iowa. Enterprise is a soft spoken yet resourceful ship who is often the first one to pull Iowa back from his crazy schemes and is neutral with most ships. He's seen to stand up for what he believes in and protects his friends and family from insults. 

Key Relationships:

• Hood - His Ex Wife and good friend, he married Hood in order to save her from being questioned about Olivia's real father. He has always treated Hood well and treated the marriage with love and respect. The two never really hit it off as they were more like good friends than husband and wife. In modern times he still cares deeply for Hood but more of a sister way and is proud of her success.
• Olivia - Olivia is his adopted daughter who he helped raise and calls his own. He's never hid the fact that Olivia was adopted but always supported her dreams of being an American ship despite backlash from his superiors. Although Olivia is looking for her real father, Enterprise is always considered her dad as he helped raise the young ship as was there for many of her big events. He does know who the father of Olivia is but he keeps it secret for both Hood and Olivia's sake.
• Iowa - Enterprise is Iowa's righthand man and is often seen with the battleship at events and strategic meetings. Although the two often don't see eye to eye they tend to come to a compromise to help protect their country and train new Nauticals. Enterprise is usually the voice of reason and brings Iowa back down to earth. 

Accent:

Eastern Virginia, Tidewater accent, East Coast accent with a warm tone and very patriotic. 

Voice Description:

Enterprise is your typical American star boy with a big personality. His voice should be clear and thick with a large range. He is proud of his country and has a huge respect for those who fight for any country. As a seasoned Naval veteran, he has seen his fair share of war and death so he is very respectful when talking about war or the Navy.

Speech Pattern:

He is soft spoken and tends to say things how they are as he has an military flair about him. He doesn't use fillers a lot and has a similar voice to Hetalia America but less eccentric as he's down to earth and humble.

Age: 30 - 40 (100 Years Old but Immortal)

Ethnicity: Black American

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:

USS Lexington Is our main villain, a calculated and cold Nautical who wants to bring down the humans and any ships that side with them. Her sister-ship, Saratoga, was used as a target during the Bikini Atoll projects and was killed in the process. Due to this she has a strong hatred for humans for killing her sister and other ships alike with no care for those who have fallen. She’s very strong and is currently researching in the rebellion on ways to make Nauticals more powerful using Olivias strength and how to bring back those who were sunk. 

Key Relationships: 

• Olivia - Considered her adopted daughter who she enlisted into the resistance for power. She cares for Olivia in a way that is similar to Gothel from Tangled, she only sees Olivia as a tool to get what she wants which is domination over the humans and revenge for her sibling. Olivia thinks of Lexington as the mum who supports her and is blinded By this love as Lexington uses her for her bidding.
• Bismarck - Lexington wanted Bismarck to be broken out of jail as he holds the key to learning about Nauticals being controlled by an enigma. She also knows Bismarcks deep secret which keeps her interested in him and wants to get close to him. She openly flirts with Bismarck and teases him about his secret as well as using him for Strategic planning.

Accent: 

Eastern New England, Boston, African American accent. 

Voice Description: 

USS Lexington is a Woman on a mission and is very strong willed and determined. Her voice should be clear, calculated and cold. She should sound friendly but with a twist as she lures people in with a sense of safety whilst using them for her own bidding.

Speech Pattern:

She should have a clear voice wit’s no filler words or cuts. She’s straight to the point andcan manipulate a situation into her favour. She thinks before she speaks knowing exactly what to say.

Age: 35 - 45 ( 85 Years old but immortal)

Ethnicity:  Asian Japanese

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:

Yamato is considered the largest battleship of all time. After his capture he was put into prison due to his concerning power and fear that he could wreak havoc on the world. Over these years he became best friends with Bismarck and likes to watch anime, read manga and relax with a cup of tea. He is very laid back and has a sweet nature about him as he’s a pacifist. Yamato will talk about himself in the third person constantly and is always looking for a good seat for reading manga.

Key Relationships:

• Bismarck - After World War 2, the two infamous battleships were both imprisoned in the famous high security Dockyard Prison. Bismarck and Yamato fought when they first met due to their difference in opinion but after found a mutual respect for one another. Bismarck is Yamato's best friend and he will often follow Bismarck's plans to make his friend happy. He knows a lot about Bismarck's history and secrets.
• Akagi - Yamato has a high respect for Akagi and is proud of her achievements with the modern Japanese Navy. In the war they worked closely together and he always found her to be a strong capable ally who he could rely on. 
• Aoba - A heavy cruiser who helped raise a young Yamato to be the battleship he is today. Aoba always spoke about peace and respect to the enemy which influenced Yamato's belief in pacifism. Although Aoba fought he always had high respect for his enemies and fought with honour which Yamato looked up to. Aoba being the rebellion was a surprise to Yamato but something was off about his sensai, he wasn't the ship he knew.

Accent:

Yamato has a Japanese Keihan type accent with a soft yet deep voice. He must ALWAYS speak third person and talk with high respect to others. He tends to mix Japanese and English together when speaking.

Voice Description:

Being an honourable ship, he speaks to others with kindness and respect. His voice is low and smooth with a strong Japanese accent. His voice should be warm with a sweet tone as he speaks about his favourite books, people and animes. He doesn't raise his voice even when angry, he will just be like a disappointed dad if you upset him.

Speech Pattern:

Yamato has a very calm voice and often speaks with a hushed tone. He is a pacifist so this should come across in the way that he speaks, he's similar to a monk and uses little to no filler words.

60 - 65 (260 Years Old but immortal)

Ethnicity: Black British mixed with an unknown Heritage but could be African, Jamaican depending on the voice actor. 

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:

Victory is considered the grandfather of all Nautical's and holds the title Sea Lord who rules over the Nauticals as a main figure. He's a fatherly figure to many of our characters however he dotes on Hood as she is next in line for the Sea lord title. His past as HMS Victory is well known and documented however unknown to the world he was actually the skeleton ship known as Davy Jones and has links back to some of the first Nauticals. He's a kind and caring person with high morals who treats all Nauticals as equals. He believes in equality and is the reason for change of laws for Nautical kind.

Key Relationships:

• HMS Hood - He has a father-daughter relationship with Hood and sees her as his prodigy to the title sea lord. He's very protective over her and is proud of what she's accomplished with her task force against the rebellion and how she handles herself with the humans.
• USS Constitution - Victory's American Ex wife. Although they split up during the 1800s, Victory still has feelings for her and masks them behind playful banter and supposed discontent. His plan after retiring is to return to Constitution so that they can be together again but refuses to tell her as he want's it to be a surprise. 

Accent:

Victory has a very posh English accent but we would like to experiment with having a Jamaican or African twist to it. This is very much up to the Voice Actor as we would like to keep his accent open to interpretation.

Voice Description:

Victory has a low,  and smooth voice similar to Morgan Freeman or Idris Elba. He's got a slight twist on his accent which comes out now and then but tends to stay very posh and regal in his speech. He's a proud ship of the line and this should come through his voice as confidence.

Speech Pattern:

Victory rarely minces his words and never stumbles over them. He has a classic yet captivating voice which should be calm and has no fillers. He rarely raises his voice and keeps at a lower yet soft tone.

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:

Introducing America's hero, the big stick and battleship of Presidents, USS Iowa. Iowa is head of the US navy and is the representative for the USA. He's a 1940s battleship who prides himself in his size and strength. Iowa is very cocky and arrogant, seeing other nations less than his own. Iowa is more stupid than dangerous but he always believes in justice and freedom but he's over the top and eccentric, making a show out of everything. Iowa is very self absorbed and childish however he comes from a good place and just wants to protect his country, family and friends. 

Key Relationships:

• Enterprise - Iowa's best friend and colleague, who work closely together in order to help shape the navy into the greatest world power. Iowa having the crazy schemes whilst Enterprise bringing him back down to earth. Iowa and Enterprise are usually seen bickering with each other however work well together in order to complete a task and protect the world from evil. 
• HMS Hood - Since first meeting Hood through Enterprise, Iowa has always had a crush on her. He tends to openly flirt with Hood and tries to get her attention although he's rejected at every turn. He has a deep respect for the battlecruiser and speaks highly about her. 

Accent:

Neutral American/Broadcast Standard American or Midwestern. His name sake is Iowa so this should be a part of his accent. 

Voice Description:

Iowa has a large booming voice and a lot of personality, wanting to be the centre of attention at all times so tend to interrupt people and talk over them. His voice should come across clear and loud with a thick American accent. His arrogance should also show through as he is a character who is very self absorbed. 

Speech Pattern:

Iowa tends to speak as if he's in an American commercial and talks as a celebrity. he has a very clear and loud voice with little to no filler words. He's very dramatic so tend to have a range of tone and pitch when talking but ultimately keep it deep.

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:
HMS King George V was the lead ship of his brothers the King George V class battleships and was renowned for being the ship that brought down the Bismarck. His victories are known through out Nautical’s and to celebrate his achievements, he was gifted the Dockyard Prison which he is currently warden over. King George is a snobby, obnoxious and pompous character who looks down at everyone who isn’t his brothers or Victory. He is always wearing his finest suits and is concerned about his looks at all times.

Key Relationships

• Bismarck- His arch enemy and current prisoner, Bismarck and King George despise each other as King George regularly assaults and punishes Bismarck for fun. Usually George is shown to be kicking Bismarck when he’s down and enjoying seeing him hurt. His intentions behind these actions are currently unknown however it’s evident that he treats Bismarck the worse of all the prisoners, reminding him who got him to his knees.
  
• HMS Hood - Hood is a ship that George grew up with, looking up to her when he was a child as she taught him all she knew. After Hood’s sinking he decided to get revenge for her by attacking the Bismarck and bringing him to justice however at his trial Hood pardoned Bismarck as it would make the Royal Navy no better than the German Army. Furious that Hood would allow this man to get off with a prison sentence rather than death, King George begins to resent her. His childhood crush still looming even with this resentment. 
  

Accent:
High class British, Very Posh and pompous. 

Voice Description:
King George gets his name from King George V so this should come through his voice. He’s very posh and sophisticated so he should sound pompous and aristocratic. He should sound arrogant and very much like a character you’d like to punch in the face. I’m not sure how to describe more than he’s an butthole. Do with that what you will.

Speech Pattern:
No filler words unless it’s to add more insults to people. He speaks very posh and very intelligent so he comes across clear and aristocratic. He’s known for being a drama King so he’ll add pauses for emphasis and exaggeration.

Age: (100 Years Old but Immortal)

Ethnicity: Asian Japanese

Character Description / Characteristics of this Role:
Akagi is the current head of the Japanese navy and is one of Hood’s good friends. Although destined to be a battlecruiser, she ultimately became an Aircraft Carrier. During World War 2 she operated missions such as the pearl harbour attack and invasion of Rabaul. She was critically injured by Enterprise and his siblings, Afterwhich Akagi was scuttled by her men and left to sink, she was left blinded and scared, her sister laid dying in her arms as the Americans continued their attack however in her blind state she managed to find refuge with the Americans who captured her as a prisoner. After her sentence in America, she grew fond of the Americans and would frequent pearl harbour to offer her apologies and a gift from the Japanese government  to honour the fallen men and Nauticals. On her return to the Japanese Navy, due to her large heart and her reasoning skills, she was made the Nautical in charge. 

Key Relationships:

• Kaga: - Akagi’s younger sister whom she thought she lost to the war. However after the two were taken by the American’s, Kaga’s injuries were treated and she healed in time for the Bikini Atoll tests. Akagi only heard from her sister after she joined the resistance when she tried to recruit Akagi however seeing how Kaga wasn’t acting like her sister she ceased any communication and offered to help Hood bring down the resistance

• Takeo: -  Akagi’s right hand woman and lieutenant who helps Akagi with her sight, usually doing the paperwork for Akagi. Takeo is very loyal to Akagi and wants nothing more than to help her out as much as possible. 

Accent:

Soft Japanese accent with American twist.

Voice Description:

Akagi is very soft spoken and sweet. She’s a character with a lot of emotion and regrets the things that happened during the war. Her Japanese accent slips into her English at times but due to her long service with the US, she should have a slight American twist. She speaks fairly formally due to her role in the Navy and is very respectful of other Nauticals and humans.

Speech Pattern:

Akagi speaks very softly and sweetly, usually having very few filler words when speaking. She speaks with a gentle tone and doesn’t raise her voice even in times of panic. She’s very intelligent and will come across as naive.
