Girl whose village was killed and she’s now a wayfarer in the city of Crane Flew Over River.
Because in this world the lore is that there are two planes of existence. The Leftside and Midway. Midway is the land of which humans live and cannot leave.
Leftside is the land of spirits. It’s mostly an unknown.
People can’t see or interact with the Leftside. Sprits from the Leftside can interact with the Midway as if they were ghosts possessing.
But through the long gone dragons, came the Midnight Sea and the oil that makes it up. If the oil is boiled and mixed with cold water it can create Black Liquid. The method through which people see the Leftside.
This leads to wayfarers who take spirits back to the leftside and keep the balance. They use Black Liquid.
Except protagonist because she’s a husk. She can interact with the Leftside as she’s tethered to the spirit residing within her.
She grew up in the Moon Tribe, and was raised with the village chief and religious head, Crow, the Moon Daughter. Crow was her best friend until the protagonist’s village was slaughtered.
After fleeing to Crane Flew Over River, she’s become a wayfarer.
The story takes place 7 years later, when she is an adult. She’s on a mission that goes wrong and makes her question her values.
The story deals with the topics of grief, hope, and what is truly worth living for.
