Loresong - Skyrim Follower and Quest Mod (Supporting cast and Minor NPCs)
Project Overview
This project is the continuation of an ongoing follower and quest mod (Previously called "Ane Veronique Follower"), for the 2011 video game Skyrim.
Previously the first, and currently primary, follower character, Ane Veronique Larouche was cast. This casting call project focuses on finding voices for her supporting cast, as well as minor characters such as bandits and traders.
To recap, Ane Veronique is a Nord raised by her Breton father, the Duke of Daggerfall, who has arrived in Skyrim to reconnect with the culture of her late Nord mother. Whilst Ane herself has already been cast, supporting roles such as her father, late mother, and others need to be cast.
Other followers will eventually be added to the project, potentially in a new casting call.
As the project is for new free content to a decade old video game profit is not a viable goal, however the project lead, me, accepts both paid and unpaid actors to apply for the available roles as the mod will be continously updated over a process of a few years and thus the actors are exptected to eventually provide new lines for each major update.
As this is a long process it is perfectly understandable that not everyone will be comfortable with this being an unpaid job and thus pay, wether over time or with each new lines or a flat fee, may be discussed.
Feel free to read up on the available roles for further information about their character and context to the game. More roles may be added.
When you are logged in, you can comment, add submissions, create projects, upvote, search open roles, and way more. Login here.
Sir Theodore LaRouche is a High-Born Noble Breton, with his bloodline going back, supposedly, to the days of the Direnni elves who once ruled High Rock. Whilst primarily a Duke that handles political and economic tasks for the King of Daggerfall, he is also a shrewd business man, and someone who cares deeply for how they are presented, and perceived.
During the Great War, when the Empire was being invaded by the Thalmor, Theodore arrived in Skyrim to offer supplies and mercenary troops, which is when he met Anne Ravencrest, whose father had just passed after leading a cavalry charge to allow the Emperor to escape Cyrodiil.
The Ravencrest family were the traditional leaders of the Talos Paladins, a rare Nordic Religious Knightly order, and with her father, Harald Ravencrest, dead in battle, Anne was forced to take his place as a young woman. Theodore was fascinated by this, and when the Post-War peace talks lead to Talos worship being outlawed, Theodore convinced Anne to come with him to High Rock, offering her Political Asylum from the Thalmor, and marrying her to ensure his safety. In truth, whilst he was fascinated and intrigued by her, and saw her as an impressive woman, nordic, tall, and strong, he believed to have someone like her, with her deep family history, as a wife would be a show of prestige.
Indeed when they gained a daughter, named Ane Vernoique LaRouche, he too saw his daughter as a way to show off his own status. He raised her in Breton etiquette, and knightly arts and valor, and even hired a tutor to teach her the traditional Breton language of Bretic (French). Whilst a Nord in race, he sees his own daughter as the perfect example of a Breton Highborn. High in status, kind and polite, and presentable.
This is not to say there is no love for his daughter, he cares for her deeply and values her freedom, allowing her to travel to Skyrim when her mother passed, as she wanted to reconnect with her mother's culture. But as the Chessmaster her believes himself to be, he also sees his daughter, loved or not, as his greatest asset.
He is short in stature, as typical of a Breton, and almost always dressed in finery and expensive textures, He is Blond, a rare trait in Bretons, which he attributes to his Direnni heritage.
Voice wise, and different from his daughter, he does not have a Bretic (French) accent, but instead sound more typically Breton (British).
When he meets the player, it is during the Main quest "Diplomatic Immunity" when the player infiltrates a party at the Thalmor Embassy disguised as a guest. Theodore is quick to recognize the player as an outsider, for politics and etiquette is his domain, and takes it as an opportunity to finally observe the "Capitaine", that Ane affectionately calls them, that has taken his daughter under their wing.

“So you’re the one who has been seeing my daughter.” He states as his eyes take in every detail of the player's appearance, mentally judging them, from how their clothes fit their body, to their stature and walk.. He hums quietly in amusement, almost like a chuckle, before continuing. “I am His Grace, Sir Theodore LaRouche, Duke of Daggerfall and servant of His Majesty, the King. And more importantly, for you, the father of my daughter. Veronique."
“I’ve heard quite a bit about you, you see, and who my daughter accompanies matters a great deal to me. So tell me why… (Tone changes to a distraught one) Why did you have to involve her in Skyrim’s war?? (Frustrated, but tries to calm down) And with the Stormcloaks! (Calmer, quieter) Do you have any idea what it means to have a Ducal daughter of Daggerfall stand against the Empire?? The chaos you’ve caused at the King’s court with this information- I- I barely know what to do with you.”
“...and that frustrates me. You’re such a perplexing figure to me. High in status, a beloved war hero, albeit for a fringe insurgent group, and my daughter thinks nothing but highly of you. (Short, annoyed breath) How am I supposed to hate you for being around her when you are so respected, that you are able to rise above the Stormcloaks that you associate yourself with? “In many ways you are even greater than Ulfric, more famous, more beloved. People will remember you for this war, not him. And there will undoubtedly be more challenges ahead, yet you move gallantly forward. (Short sigh) I suppose that is what she sees in you.”
Riobárd Gale is an Eastern Breton, but suspects he has more Reachman in his bloodline than anything. Due to his humble birth, he's struggled with climbing the ranks of the traditional Noble class sytem, but keeps at it due to wanting to be recognised for his efforts.
He's currently under the employ of the Roche Company Office, a transportation, trading and delivery service company with two main branches, Naval and Caravan.
He's only at the rank of Clerk within the company, only two ranks above a Freelancer employee, but he feels comfortable in his post, getting to deal with customers at the Solitude Inventory, who are either picking up packages or sending them along.
Self-aware of his Eastern Breton status, Riobárd has come to refer to himself as "Robert", a far more Bretic sounding name that he hopes will make things easier for him when interacting with the nobles of his home province, his boss especially, Ane's father.
The character was imagined having an Irish accent, leaning towards the more Gaelic/Celtic influences of Bretons, which in later installments of the franchise have been more common towards the Reachmen population, and the Forsworn.
This character is a minor npc, and something of a quest giver and vendor, but he'll show up a few times. There are no plans for the character to use actual Irish words, but if he becomes more important as the mod continues, that might be changed to give flavor to the character.

"Welcome to the Roche Company Office’s Solitude Inventory. You appear to be a new face. Are you here to pick up a shipment or delivery?"
“Me? Oh, I’m just a lowborn Ostern, probably with some Reachman in me. My Full name is Riobárd Gale, but I go by Robert for the sake of my job. Easier on the tongue for outsiders, and makes me more approachable to those who prefer a Bretic fellow.” (An Ostern?, the Player asks.) “Just one of the many sub-groups of us Bretons. It means Easterner, since my family is from the West Reach. The Office Master of the company, his Grace Duke Theodore LaRouche, is a Bayard for comparison, the most common type of Breton, who are usually noble in blood. I do have a book on the subject if you’re curious, just on the counter there.”
(What exactly is this place? An “inventory”?, the Player asks) “(Slightly mockingly) Hah, really?” ”(Clears throat and speaks normally) Apologies my esteemed visitor, it’s not often people waltz in here without knowing what this place is. It is a bit out of the way for a reason, so that only expected customers arrive. But yes, this is an inventory. Essentially, it is the task of this office to overlook any materials that the Roche Company is keeping here in Solitude. Most of our inventory arrive either by caravan or ship, and is kept safe in the East Empire Warehouse, which we pay rent to, until the owner of the package arrives to pick it up, or we get orders to send it away to another destination.”
A cousin of Ane Veronique's (of sorts, their families are linked from as far back as the Third Era, during the Oblivion Crisis), from the Domrémy family of Bretons, Juliette was raised amongst knights and squires, but never had any interest in partaking in that sort of lifestyle, instead leaning towards studying to become a scribe, and hopefully a scholar.
After an uncle of hers, Lucas Domrémy, managed to gain the rank of Office Manager within the Roche Company, she convinced him to take her under his wing, and since then she has worked hard with contracts, finances and general scribing and documentation as his personal assistant. She thrives in an office environment, being a very intellectual individual.
Her uncle recently arrived in Skyrim for business, but has since disappeared mysteriously. Needing someone to fill in his spot temporarily, Juliette was ordered to arrive in Markarth to finish off her uncle's work in Skyrim, though she's also using the opportunity to investigate his disappearance, especially as he's the only family she feels a genuine connection to...
Juliette was written as a response to the large amount of auditions I originally got for Ane Veronique.16 people wanted to voice my French-accented lady knight! It really amazed and shocked me, and I felt really bad for only being able to cast a single person, especially since I got several auditions from actual French and French-Canadian actresses.
Compared to Ane, Juliette is far less social and outward. Not asocial, but not actively going out of her way to be social either. She's quiet and to the point, but respectful and courteous, acting the way she believes a true professional scribe should.

"With my uncle's disappearance, Old Hroldan seemed the best place for me to stay at. Markarth is a busy place, with too many eyes, and especially so with the Forsworn rumors, and any official Company building would be too obvious, so until we find out who took my uncle, I do best in continuing his work somewhere quiet, and out of sight."
"Two really silly men came here earlier, chattering about some way to Hammerfell, and something about winning a beauty contest? (Scoffs before saying in French:) Ridicule."
"Veronique? Que fais-tu ici? What are you doing in Skyrim of all places?"
Ane Veronique's mother, a woman in her mid-to-late 40s who died recently, supposedly from disease.
Anne Ravencrest is an important part of Ane's own story, being the sole reason she decided to travel to Skyrim, as the loss of her mother made her want to reconnect with the Nord culture she came from.
Whilst Anne has died by the time the mod starts, the game's main story offers a rare opportunity to visit the Nordic afterlife, Sovngarde, which with this mod will allow the player to meet face to face with Ane's late mother.
Anne Ravencrest was the last living heir to the Ravencrest bloodline, a bloodline that supposedly went as far back as the Merethic Era, when the first Atmoran settlers arrived in Skyrim. After the rise of Tiber Septim, it was the Ravencrest's that formed the Paladins of Talos, a holy order dedicated to spread the word of the Emperor who became a god.
Anne's father, Harald Ravencrest, was the leader of the Paladins during the Great War, but died in battle to ensure the Emperor could properly escape the Imperial City, forcing Anne to take on the role herself at a young age, which impressed a visiting noble from Daggerfall, who offered to protect her when after the war, Talos worship was outlawed.
Anne felt many conflicting feelings when she left Skyrim. Some labeled her a traitor for going to Daggerfall instead of staying in Skyrim and fight for the right to have the very faith her bloodline were supposed to be the protectors of, but ultimately she chose to live as an exile, not wanting to be the reason for a conflict in Skyrim. So she lived the rest of her days with the noble who had brought her out of Skyrim, Sir Theodore LaRouche, the Duke of Daggerfall. Marrying him seemed the best action to ensure she could stay safely in Daggerfall, and make sure she'd never be a target.
She's not sure she ever loved him, but when she gave birth to their daughter she did indeed have someone in her life to love. A daughter to raise, to tell the stories of her people, of the legacy of the Ravencrests, and to make sure that legacy did not end with her.
Sadly, she found herself often fighting with her husband on how their daughter should be raised. Even the name had come from an argument, as Anne wanted to name her Ane, as befitting of the firstborn daughter of a Ravencrest, whilst Theodore wanted her to be named Veronique, a noble Breton name, after one of his ancestors. Whilst they agreed to give her both names, Anne never liked how her husband seemed to only call their daughter Veronique, and never Ane.
Still, she did her best to raise her as a Nord, even as Theodore gave her lessons in Breton etiquette and speech, and made sure that at the very least her daughter knew how to hold a two handed weapon high, like a proper Swordmaiden. Still, even in death, she wasn't sure she had done enough to make her daughter appreciate where she came from...
Said death was not of disease. Anne Ravencrest-LaRouche was killed by a poison, according to the royal undertaker. Theodore made the decision not to make that report official, so for all Ane and the rest of the world belives, Anne Ravencrest died from disease. Anne is aware of the truth, obviously.
In terms of voice, she should not sound too Nordic, but instead any Nordic influence in her voice should merely act as the foundation. The most important aspect of her voice is to be deep and motherly, to show the experience and complicated emotions she carries as a woman who has gone through so much in barely half of a normal human's lifespan. Her words should also be carried with a sense of nostalgia and loss, as whilst Anne now resides in Sovngarde, the Nordic afterlife, surrounded by her ancestors and relatives, she can not let go of the sadness of being unable to see her daughter's life with her own eyes...

(Singing softly, and slowly, as if caught in nostalgia) “My songs are sung in drinking halls, From Winterhold to Daggerfall, buy me some ale, I'll drink it all, For I don't sing for free…”
“....Dovahkiin, as I breathe the mead-infested air of aetherius. You are truly here, (her tone lowers, almost to a whisper) by my eyes.” (She chuckles softly, heartfelt, before speaking again) “So it is true. It is you of all who’ve taken my daughter under your wing.”
(Talking about her daughter, Ane Veronique LaRouche) “I never thought I’d see the day where she’d visit Skyrim, my home. I love her dearly, yet I never thought she cared for the stories I told of Skyrim. Of our history. I always feared the tales of knights and princesses her father showered her with meant far more. He pampered her with armor and weapons perfected by Bretic blacksmiths, gave her dresses and luxuries only a princess would ever see, and placed her in a society that would adore her knowledge and skill in etiquette. She’s even fluent in their language, ancient and adored… I thought High Rock would be the only part of the world that mattered to her.” (She pauses) "...I’ve never been happier to be wrong.”
Darya Al-Bjoulsae is planned as the eventual second follower added by the mod, after Ane, but as of right now she is still being written, and depending on how much work the Ane content takes Darya might be scrapped altogether.
Darya Al-Bjoulsae is a pirate, of the Al-Bjoulsae Corsairs. Raised in the Dragontail Mountains, in the ancient city of Dragontail, she is notable for having a mother from a long line of mountain villagers that claim to be directly descendant from the native Nedes of Eastern Hammerfell, the Duraki.
Half-Duraki and Half Redguard, Darya was raised by her father into Redguard noble society, but ran away from home and hid on a pirate ship, where she was quickly taken in by the captain, Bassim At-Hassan.
Darya feels a strong connection to her Duraki-Nedic ancestry, and carries very strong anti-colonial and anti-imperialist ideals, fueled both by her father focusing on raising her as a Redguard, and her now current role as a pirate has set her against the many Empires and Kingdoms of the world.
When the player finds her she's captured, pissed off and sassy towards her capturers. When in a hostile situation she thrives, using threats, sarcasm and attitude to survive. It is when the player frees her that she is out of her element, now suddenly dealing with someone kind and helpful, who is potentially doing so without a reward in sight. She sticks with the player, hoping to gain some useful info through them until she is ready to return to the sea.
My interpretation of Duraki culture takes heavy inspiration from Iranian and specifically Persian culture and history, and therefor Darya should be able to speak Farsi/Persian.
Please only apply for this role if you can speak Farsi, and if you have Middle-Eastern heritage. Non-Iranians can apply as long as they can speak the language alongside English, and a Persian accent isn't necessary, and if you audition with one it doesn't have to be rather thick, as the character is well traveled and has mingled with people with all kinds of voices.
As the character is still in the planning phase, it may be a while before you are given lines after you get the role. Please keep that in mind.

Darya: “Aren’t you a sight for salt-stinged eyes? I was hoping these guys would have the decency to release a fellow criminal, but you’ll do just fine.” (Player: “Why should I let you out?”) Darya: (Breathes out in amusement) “What, got something against criminals? An Italian, or Neutral, accented Imperial from Cyrodiil, and a clerk at the Roche Company Office's Naval division, the Roche Naval Company.
Currently positioned in Windhelm, overseeing cargo being shipped through the city, Julian is noticeably friendly compared to Windhelm's usual citizens. While often busy going through his lists of passing cargo, or discussing contracts with the representative of the East Empire Company, Julian is very excited to talk to whoever he can, the player included.
This is a very minor character, and one of the future quest givers. He usually has minor tasks for the player to deal with, but will also be involved with direct company contracts, such as taking down certain bandits.

"Greetings, greetings! Whatever can I do you for?" "I'm a little busy, but I'll always make time for a chat!"
"Those damn Blood Horkers pirates sure tend to turn peoples smiles into frowns around here, it's all an awful shame. There's good people in Windhelm."
"The Roche Naval Company, and the Company Office as a whole, has an odd and uneasy alliance with the East Empire Company. The EE answers directly to the Empire, whilst the Roche Company answers to the Duke of Daggerfall, who in turns answers to the King."
Fanna Fire-Hand is a proud nord, with the worst kind of pride at that. She claims Jona the Ansei-Ender, Jarl of The Reach in the Third Era, as an ancestor and considers herself part of a great bloodline of rulers, leaders and warriors from Eastmarch. Of course, in modern day Skyrim her ancestry is not enough for any political position, forcing her to climb the ranks of the Roche Company Office, due to their ties to the Reach. She aims to rise to the very top, so as to finally claim some level of control of her ancestor's hold, but still remains a mere clerk. Stuck in Falkreath, she is frustrated and annoyed as her superiors continue to deny her the chance to prove herself.
As she often says, "A Nord is at worst when standing still".
Another minor npc, but one who may prove more important as the mod keeps being developed, Fanna is a reference to an npc from the Morrowind mod "Skyrim: Home of The Nords", which depicts Skyrim through the lense of Morrowind's graphics and lore. Her accent should be recognizably Nordic, but preferably not too heavy, and her tone should always hold a level of pride and attitude.
