Sir Theodore LaRouche is a High-Born Noble Breton, with his bloodline going back, supposedly, to the days of the Direnni elves who once ruled High Rock. Whilst primarily a Duke that handles political and economic tasks for the King of Daggerfall, he is also a shrewd business man, and someone who cares deeply for how they are presented, and perceived.

During the Great War, when the Empire was being invaded by the Thalmor, Theodore arrived in Skyrim to offer supplies and mercenary troops, which is when he met Anne Ravencrest, whose father had just passed after leading a cavalry charge to allow the Emperor to escape Cyrodiil.

The Ravencrest family were the traditional leaders of the Talos Paladins, a rare Nordic Religious Knightly order, and with her father, Harald Ravencrest, dead in battle, Anne was forced to take his place as a young woman. Theodore was fascinated by this, and when the Post-War peace talks lead to Talos worship being outlawed, Theodore convinced Anne to come with him to High Rock, offering her Political Asylum from the Thalmor, and marrying her to ensure his safety. In truth, whilst he was fascinated and intrigued by her, and saw her as an impressive woman, nordic, tall, and strong, he believed to have someone like her, with her deep family history, as a wife would be a show of prestige.

Indeed when they gained a daughter, named Ane Vernoique LaRouche, he too saw his daughter as a way to show off his own status. He raised her in Breton etiquette, and knightly arts and valor, and even hired a tutor to teach her the traditional Breton language of Bretic (French). Whilst a Nord in race, he sees his own daughter as the perfect example of a Breton Highborn. High in status, kind and polite, and presentable.

This is not to say there is no love for his daughter, he cares for her deeply and values her freedom, allowing her to travel to Skyrim when her mother passed, as she wanted to reconnect with her mother's culture. But as the Chessmaster her believes himself to be, he also sees his daughter, loved or not, as his greatest asset.

He is short in stature, as typical of a Breton, and almost always dressed in finery and expensive textures, He is Blond, a rare trait in Bretons, which he attributes to his Direnni heritage.

Voice wise, and different from his daughter, he does not have a Bretic (French) accent, but instead sound more typically Breton (British).

When he meets the player, it is during the Main quest "Diplomatic Immunity" when the player infiltrates a party at the Thalmor Embassy disguised as a guest. Theodore is quick to recognize the player as an outsider, for politics and etiquette is his domain, and takes it as an opportunity to finally observe the "Capitaine", that Ane affectionately calls them, that has taken his daughter under their wing.

  • “So you’re the one who has been seeing my daughter.” He states as his eyes take in every detail of the player's appearance, mentally judging them, from how their clothes fit their body, to their stature and walk.. He hums quietly in amusement, almost like a chuckle, before continuing. “I am His Grace, Sir Theodore LaRouche, Duke of Daggerfall and servant of His Majesty, the King. And more importantly, for you, the father of my daughter. Veronique."

  • “I’ve heard quite a bit about you, you see, and who my daughter accompanies matters a great deal to me. So tell me why… (Tone changes to a distraught one) Why did you have to involve her in Skyrim’s war?? (Frustrated, but tries to calm down) And with the Stormcloaks! (Calmer, quieter) Do you have any idea what it means to have a Ducal daughter of Daggerfall stand against the Empire?? The chaos you’ve caused at the King’s court with this information- I- I barely know what to do with you.”

  • “...and that frustrates me. You’re such a perplexing figure to me. High in status, a beloved war hero, albeit for a fringe insurgent group, and my daughter thinks nothing but highly of you. (Short, annoyed breath) How am I supposed to hate you for being around her when you are so respected, that you are able to rise above the Stormcloaks that you associate yourself with? “In many ways you are even greater than Ulfric, more famous, more beloved. People will remember you for this war, not him. And there will undoubtedly be more challenges ahead, yet you move gallantly forward. (Short sigh) I suppose that is what she sees in you.”
