LONG-TERM PROJECT: Secret Glider Season 1

Project Overview

Heya friends!

I'm Sam, aka Qwest44! I create animations, art, and music, and am currently working on an original animated series, called Secret Glider!

History

I pitched the Secret Glider project back in 2019, expecting to create an episode every month. However, I realized that life gets in the way constantly, and the level of quality that I want takes much time and patience. When the pilot episode was completed almost three years later, it was well-received by members of the stick figure animation community. Well enough that, after much thought and consideration, I decided to remake the project with a new approach and a new workflow.

The Series

Secret Glider is an action-packed Qwest44 Original IP following the tale of my character persona, Hang Glider, or HG for short. 

Season 1 is going to be the start of his adventure, with a new mission assigned and new things to discover which will determine his course for a potential Season 2 (if support goes above and beyond). Danger lurks in unique ways when you live in a land where a teleportation-like substance is drained from its depositories.

What am I looking for?

  • Quality in everything. This includes great microphone quality, clear accents in dialogue, and excellent display of inflection and emotion in voice acting. New participants in voice acting are welcome, but you MUST meet the underlined requirements.
  • Availability. Unlike last time, I'm not expecting to complete these episodes every single month. This project is long-term, meaning I will call on you for voice work/music whenever I move on to the next episode, which could be months in between. It is your job to keep communication open so that I can message you when I'm ready, and so you can deliver. Please note, I understand we each have our own things in life to deal with. This project isn't life or death, but communication is key.
  • OPTIONAL: Discord. A majority of people use Discord for communication. It's excellent in one-on-one voice chats for recording lines. Additionally, you will get a special role in my Discord server. But it's optional. You are allowed to either email your recordings or send them to me through the CCC system.

At the moment, this project is volunteer work only, but if crowd-funding can get to this project, I hope to upgrade your roles from free ones to paid ones. Your talent is much appreciated!
Additionally, each episode has varied amounts of involvement. Some episodes don't even include all characters. However, I'll still keep in touch with you regarding status of the current episode.

And that about covers it! Currently, I am working on the opening theme to the series, which should take about two months to complete. After that, I'm jumping straight into Episode 1!

  • Auditions Cast!

    The final update for now! Hey everyone! It took a little time and some careful listening, but I've managed to cast all the roles! To the majority who didn't get accepted, I want you to know that I appreciate you submitting your auditions for me to listen to! The biggest things I mentioned in most of my private messages to all of you was the need to improve voice inflection and expression, to sound and be more genuine when you're in character. These are very important aspects to work on as it conveys those feelings we want to convey to the viewers. I have no doubt that you all will become highly successful voice actors and actresses when you put your heart and mind to it! To those who got accepted, congratulations! I look forward to working with all of you here! To everyone, thank you for auditioning and for your expressed interest in the project! Let's create an amazing series together! That's all for now!   • Kuo Role Closed Early

    Heya everyone! There were a lot of great auditions made for Kuo and after much consideration, the role has been cast to an offsite VA (as I am also receiving an audition or two outside of CCC). If you didn't get accepted, don't worry! If you auditioned for multiple roles, there's still a chance you can get a role after the deadline is up. Tomorrow is the last day for auditions to be sent in. Thanks so much for showing your interest and trying out!

  • Seya Role Closed & Deadline Time

    Hey everyone! First of all, there's been an incredible response to the call as of last week! So many auditions have been rolling in and there's a lot of talent to be heard! Seya, in particular has received quite a number of auditions! Several good and energetic ones stuck with me and I have made the decision to close and cast the role! If you didn't get accepted, don't worry! You can submit to multiple roles for a good chance at still being part of the project. You're all very talented and I greatly appreciate you showing interest and sending in your audition! Lastly, because of how many auditions come in each day, I may not need to extend the deadline. However, if there are some roles I am still deciding on, I'll be giving a two-week extension from July 9th and I will post an update if I go through with that decision. Thanks for reading, everyone!   • Deadline Extension and Two New Roles Added

    Hello everyone! First of all, thanks so much to those who have sent in their auditions! The majority of audio clips sound really good and there is a lot of talent being shown, which I couldn't be more proud of! I'm having a tough time deciding which ones to cast, heheheh! Second thing, the deadline will be extended as there are still some missing roles needed to be auditioned for. Not only that, my main PC was down and out so progress halted on the Opening Theme animation during that time. (No worries, I'm back up and running!) The deadline now is JULY 9TH! Last but not least, I have added two new characters to the roster! Jato and an Unnamed Female Director. Check out their listings and feel free to audition if you think you can nail it! Kuo, the Stealthcloak Leader

Kuo is the leader of the Stealthcloak Faction and is one of HG's pals in Secret Glider. He has the ability to channel fire through his escrima sticks.

His voice is one of leadership, authority, but also that of a caring father. The best example is depicted in the pilot episode.

  • (encouraging) "Sounds good. Remember, SSF supplies us to help each other out. You’re doing this for everyone."

  • (during mission briefing) "Shyri, stay outside the mines on standby if we happen to bring anyone out. Seya, you're with her on guard duty. The rest of us will explore inside. Any questions?"

  • (understanding and serious) “They will perish. We won’t let that happen on our watch. We are a combat faction, and we’re going to get you out of this.”

Kranven, the Muscle

Kranven's your typical lovable muscle man with a big heart and a caring for his teammates. He channels magnetism through brute strength and his giant sword, but also has a keen eye for strategy.

His voice is. . . well. . . already described above. And the best example is through the pilot episode of Secret Glider!

  • (serious, low voice) "Use non-lethal means. Remember, she's still our teammate."

  • “Which is why we’re going in, powers combined and unleashed.” (slams the tip of his sword for effect)

  • (grins) “Heh! This should be fun!” (calls out to the gang) “We got this, guys! Go!”

Zunron, the Technician

Zunron's a fun-loving, intellectual guy who's very experienced around technology. Like his brother, Kranven, he channels magnetism albeit through his technology. 

As the younger brother, his voice is not quite as deep as Kranven's. The best example of his voice can be heard through the pilot episode of Secret Glider!

  • (sheepish) "I. . . may have been responsible for programming that feature."

  • (speaks while working) "Hmmm, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. It seems something chewed up the hardware last night. Kinda unusual for tech to get damaged like this. As far as I know, we don’t have vermins around here.”

  • (captivated) “What’s it doing?”

Seya, the Rookie

Seya may be youngest member of the Stealthcloak Faction but she's tough for her age. She harnesses a variant of forcefield manipulation where she can split her fields into solid fragments.

She has a more expressive, light-hearted personality and can either get easily scared or just gleefully toy with her enemies in combat. 

  • (highly amused) "Seriously? A tiny thing causing that much havoc?"

  • "Uhhh." (laughs nervously) "Is it too late to surrender?"

Kai-En is the mysterious leader of an unknown faction in Season 1 of Secret Glider. A hard-cased personality with no light-hearted feelings whatsoever. His powers have yet to be known.

Note: His role is minor for the first half of the season. In the second half, he will be more involved.


  • (low, serious voice) "I don't recognize the boy. . . but the swordsman I know all too well."

  • (reserved, but sharp tone) "What happened?"

  • (silent for a moment) (sighs) “As you wish. Do what you must. I’ll warn you if trouble comes our way.”

Charnia

Charnia is part of the unknown faction and the sister of Surger. Her powers are yet to be known.

Like Kai-En, she's serious and hard-cased, but has a sense of care for her teammates. A great reference for her voice could be Wraith from Apex Legends.

Note: This role is minor during the first half of Season 1. She will be more involved during the second half.

  • (in combat) "Listen up! I could use some help!"

  • (inquisitive) "And how do we do that?"

  • “It’ll have to do. C’mon. Let’s get this back to Kai-En.”

Ezron is a middle-aged former ranch hand with years of experience in hunting and tracking, and is part of the unknown faction. 

His personality is gentle but also serious. He's like a father to some of the people he's worked with.

Note: His role is minor for the first half of the season. He'll be more involved in the second half of the season.

  • (looks around) "Cave's unstable, kid. And you currently don't have the capabilities to protect yourself 'gainst a potential cave-in."

  • (quiet amazement) "Well how about that! It's solid platinum! Rarer than tha tooth of a Tee-Rex Dino!"

  • (raises an eyebrow in query) "Food? What in tarnation?"

Surger's the medic of the unknown faction and Charnia's brother. 

He has a serious but caring personality and usually likes to think about things before doing them.

Note: Surger's role is a little more involved than the other unknown members in the first half of the season. He will be equally involved in the second half.

  • (sighs) “Only a tiny amount. Barely enough for. . . maybe three vials of cures.”

  • (intrigued) "Third encounter? Who was it this time?"

  • (gentle voice) "This'll only hurt a little!"

Kleeyah is a young girl who has the ability to manipulate earth. 

She has a more serious, hardened personality than Seya does. In combat, she's more fierce and aggressive.

  • (low tone) "Sorry, sorry, Ezron. It won't happen again." (more positive tone) "But look what I got!"

  • (yells) “Let’s get outta here!”

Jato is one of SSF's best agents and a supporting character in Secret Glider Season 1. He utilizes two ninjato as his kit alongside his mastery of martial arts, parkour, and acrobatics.

He's overall a serious, disciplined individual, but has a bit of a lighter side to himself on occasion. Oh, and he has an intense yell whenever he's in combat.

  • (quiet, low voice) "Movement inside. Something suspicious is going on."

  • (pondering) “Huh. Just like that, I’m out.”

  • "Ninjato STRIKE!"

This female stick has appeared in the pilot episode (hence you may get an idea of her voice) and provides mission assignments to agents and the military personnel within SSF. Her role in Season 1 is minor, and only appears for a few of the episodes. 

She can be described as a calm, collected individual. She never raises her voice even in tense situations.

  • “You are fortunate to survive and retreat despite the numbers against you.”

  • "Jato, I’m pulling you out of this one. Hang Glider, I’m ramping up your mission status."

  • “Is that understood?”
