The Quiet Room
Project Overview
The Quiet Room is an animated psychological horror miniseries about a boy named Cody who finds himself trapped in a dark, cold, and lonely void, constantly patrolled by an invisible entity he labeled “Nihilo,” who sees to it that Cody never escapes. Oh, and you’d better keep quiet and stay as still as a statue if you want to survive; Nihilo doesn’t take very kindly to sound or movement.
This story is planned to be one of many short stories that all tie together to form a much larger narrative, but that’s a bridge I’ll cross when I get there. I’d rather take this just one step at a time. Please keep in mind I am VERY new to this; I’m only seventeen and I would be lying if I said I knew what I was doing at all. But this has been a huge passion project of mine for so many years now, and I have so many morals and messages that I want to get out into the world. And this is how I want to do that! I don’t plan on making any money off of this, nor do I plan on spending much on it. (not that I could really afford it anyways)
Us humans only have so long to live, so for right now, I’m going to spend my arbitrary amount of time working on this project! And hopefully, I’ll eventually be able to tell the world a really awesome story, one that’ll stick with people! I really hope you’ll consider volunteering for these roles, and I look forward to working with you!

The main protagonist of The Quiet Room. Cody is soft spoken and gentle. He rarely speaks, and when he does, he’s audibly uncomfortable with doing so. It’s almost as if he’s whispering. This is because the story follows his journey out of the quiet room, after he’d already spent years trapped inside. Throughout the episodes, he slowly begins to warm back up to using his voice. This is portrayed through a very subtle shift in tone and a slight increase in volume.

Mid-hi/Mid. Very slightly nasally..? Not really, it’s hard to explain. Like, as if the voice has more treble I guess?? Whatever, I’m sure you get it.
tone/delivery
Tired, quiet, unconfident. As if he’s scared of speaking.

“I- I don’t understand. What does any of that mean?”
“No… No, you’re lying. That would never work, I’ve tried! it… it never. works.”
(still quietly, but more confident tone) “I know you’re here. You can’t hide from me anymore. I’m done hiding from you.”
A sort of “guiding light” for Cody. It has a similar role to “face” from the analog horror film RADAR, if that helps at all. A youtuber named Pastra made a video explaining it in case you aren’t familiar. Light’s tone is sympathetic but not very expressive. When it speaks, it should invoke a sense of safety and reliability, but also a sense of urgency. It’s often a straight-shooter, speaking in a very objective manner, only saying the words that need to be said, regardless of whether or not Cody wants to hear them. Though a female voice would have undoubtedly been the more fitting option, for some reason I’ve always imagined it as having a male voice. It also talks rather slowly. Not drag-your-feet slow, but it makes an effort to speak clearly and concisely.

Technically nothing, but for the sake of voice casting we’ll say male.

(boldly, like a stern warning) “Don’t.”
“You’ve lost yourself here, haven’t you? I am here to guide you back home.”
“We love you, Cody. Please, come back home.”
The therapist only gets like one or two lines of dialogue just at the beginning of episode 1. The therapy scene is just there to kick off the episode and introduce the setting.

“How about we start off with those ‘mindsets’ we talked about in our last session, is that okay?”
This is just a one-off thing for now. During one of the transition sequences, there’s a barely audible, disembodied malicious laugh that can be made out through the white noise. (This is significant, but it’s not immediately related to the plot we’re discussing right now. It’s tied to its own project reserved for the far, far future)

On the higher side, somewhat coarse. Think: Michael Kovach, or Kellen Goff but slightly lower.
tone/delivery
Think: the Light Yagami laugh, or the Eren Jeager “nothing’s changed” laugh.
(It’s okay if your performance isn’t spot-on or anything, it’s mostly going to be hidden by white noise anyway)
