Last One Standing: Royal Massacre (Voice Acting Casting Call!)
Project Overview
Greetings from Queens Dani and Mist of Crimson Sugar Studio!
Here you will find all of the information necessary to participate in our Royal Casting Call (the casting call for our game, Last One Standing: Royal Massacre)! We are in need of sixteen voice actors, so please read carefully!
Game Overview
Last One Standing: Royal Massacre is a psychological horror/murder mystery visual novel about fifteen unconnected Russian teenagers who wake up one day to find themselves trapped inside of a castle, with no explanation as to how or why they're there. However, shortly after they all unite, they encounter a mysterious man with dark intentions. Introducing himself only as "the King of the Competition," only then does he explain his plans: to host the Royal Competition of Death, a competition in which the aforementioned group will be forced to murder one another to escape.
Introduction & Payments
Last One Standing: Royal Massacre is a free indie game, created by a small studio. That being said, we unfortunately will not be able to pay anyone who wishes to work with us. We wish that we could, but as of now, we don’t really have a budget to work with, as this was just meant to be a fun passion project for us, so if you want to join the team and continue forward with us, the main benefits would be experience, exposure, and/or pleasure!
If this is one of your first times voice acting and you do not want to have the pressure of being paid just yet, or even if you have never tried voice acting but have always wanted to just for the fun of it, then this is the perfect place for you! Or, if you have more experience, but would like to assist a team of independent developers as they work to finish their first visual novel, that would also be lovely! Any level of experience is perfectly acceptable, and absolutely anyone is welcome to audition if they would like to 💜.
Audition Details & Guidelines
If you have any prior knowledge of our game, you will know that it is currently over 10 hours long, and that we are working on the second of six chapters (only the prologue and first chapter are fully released). Because this would be a rather demanding task otherwise, we are only searching for voicing for the prologue, which is roughly an hour and a half long, with only two characters appearing consistently. The others are present for shorter times, and we do not need voicing for every single line anyway. In fact, excluding the two main roles, most parts will likely have no more than 20 to 35 spoken lines (with a few exceptions). But such specifics (which lines and parts will be needed, etc) will be discussed later...
In the future, once we have a budget, we may want to get more parts voiced (paid, of course), but that is irrelevant as of now. Just have that in the back of your mind :).
In summation, we are looking for partial voicing for two main roles (one teenage male and one teenage female), thirteen secondary roles (seven teenage male, six teenage female), and one main antagonist (adult male).
In terms of selecting people for each role, unless we have multiple people planning to audition for one character already, we won’t generally wait to make decisions. If we like your audition, we will most likely inform you immediately and select you for that part (if you are certain that is what you want).
~ If you get selected for any role, we will provide a full pronunciation guide for all of the characters’ names upon request. ~
One last note before we list the roles: We highly recommend looking at Last One Standing: Royal Massacre’s game page on itch.io. It contains a plot summary, which will be very helpful going forward, if you have not already played any of the game (though playing it may also be beneficial, if you are seriously interested and want to see the characters’ individual speaking styles). Here is the link: Last One Standing: Royal Massacre by Crimson Sugar Studio (itch.io)
Guidelines
No prior acting experience is required.
Any recording setup is completely fine, as long as the audio quality is clear. We do not want any background noise or fuzziness, or anything else that might create disturbance or distraction.
Upon reaching out to us, please provide us with a bit of info about you :). Name, pronouns, age (or age range if you aren’t comfortable with sharing), and any background details you would like to share (hobbies, previous works you’ve taken part in, etc) would be very helpful for us.
Anyone of any age is welcome to audition, but please keep the characters’ ages in mind. They need to be able to pass as teenagers, as everyone (aside from the King, of course) is somewhere from 15 to 17 years old.
If you are selected for a role, please make sure to keep contact with us throughout the recording process afterwards. We want to hear about your progress, and would also like to be notified if anything happens, if you need to take time off, etc.
If you are selected for a role, there will be no set due date for the lines we send you. As in, each time we send you a part, you can take as long as you need to, within reason (as in, please do not take several months to record a few lines, and so on - take the project seriously, but do not pressure yourself into getting things done immediately, as we are very patient 💜).
That said, we hope you have fun, and will enjoy working with us! We are enthusiastic to hear every audition, and to welcome more people to our team! 💜

We’re looking for a voice that is stern and firm, something that will suit Kostya’s aggressive nature and very to-the-point way of expressing himself without being too loud or forceful.
A tone that conveys emotion clearly, particularly stress and aggravation.
Mid-low pitch.
Character Summary: Driven and dedicated, Kostya is a harsh, strictly no-nonsense person with natural leadership skills but no charisma or amiability to balance it out. The moment he wakes up, he’s already prepared to search for answers, and since then, he’s stopped at nothing to do so.
This strong sense of devotion and need to satisfy curiosity can make him come across as not only nosy, always involved in others’ business, but aggressive as well, for he tolerates little distraction or unnecessary “aggravation”. He has a bad tendency to dismiss and ignore others’ feelings when they don’t align with his own, and to lash out when things don’t go as he wants them to.
Deep down, he is rather reflective and thoughtful, willing to admit it when he makes mistakes, and does genuinely trust the other participants, even if he doesn’t always act like it.
(Neutral - a simple line to give us a sense of the voice)
"Before we continue this discussion, mind if I ask what your name is?"
(Stressed, angry, demanding information from the first person he meets upon waking up in an unfamiliar place)
"Okay, but what the hell is going on..? Have you found anything to explain this?! Anything at all..?!"
(Desperate, overwhelmed, expressing his fears relating to his new predicament)
"Our days are numbered if we don't go through with the competition, but if we do... It's the same! We can't compete, but we can't get out of it either!"
We’re looking for a voice that is kind and affectionate (though not at all immature), but can be stern at times, in a “big-sisterly” way.
Medium pitch.
Character Summary: Taking up the role of “big sister,” Olesya is very protective of the other participants, making an effort to keep everyone safe in whatever ways she can. Her equal willingness to trust, determination to escape, and care for the others mark her as an invaluable ally, and a positive presence all around.
She is a noticeably affectionate person, referring to others with sweet nicknames and taking care of those who need it, acting as a comforting figure in such a dark situation. However, this does not mean she is in any way meek or passive; in fact, she is undeniably strong in every sense, fully capable of defending the others if need be.
Kind and compassionate, she is certainly trusted by those around her, and is someone who others would look to for support when things grow difficult.
(Caring, concerned)
"Ah! Are you okay, sweetie?!"
(Angry after being talked down to)
"Well, I know that! I'm not stupid, thinking that there will conveniently be an exit right there!"
(Upset, desperate, a particularly stressful and emotional moment)
"Just... There isn't much I can say as of now, but please OH PLEASE stay with us... I want to be there to protect you and everyone else..."
We’re looking for a voice that is dramatic and grand, full of power and authority (though not in a typical “antagonist” way, necessarily - something that is more lively and energetic but not friendly).
Mid-low pitch.
Character Summary: Though he can be serious and threatening at times, he often is not, and tends to be less formal in mannerisms and behavior. He can be playful and joking at times, evidently not taking his victims or their attempts at resistance seriously, but he is by no means friendly or casual. His actions and speech are both noticeably bold and dramatic, and he is clearly confident in his ability to intimidate others, even just with his presence alone.
He is not actually a king, though none of his victims have any idea who he truly is.
(Dramatic, powerful, he's introducing himself for the first time)
"Behold! The king of this castle, the King of the Competition!"
(Taunting, intending to intimidate his victims)
"Even if you did kill me, there are people who would take my place. You might as well save yourself the effort..!"
(Serious, firm)
"Stop saying such nonsense. You will be here for quite a while, and will need that room. Or perhaps not... You never know, you could be the first victim..."

We’re looking for a voice that is sweet and gentle, with quietness to match with her kind, caring personality - not too soft or “shy”.
High pitch.
Character Summary: Acting as the group’s motivator, Arina is a very optimistic and determined girl, and a strong believer in the idea that she and the others will be able to escape the castle through enough effort and teamwork. She was the first person to suggest trusting one another as a way to prevent the start of the competition.
That being said, she is unwilling to doubt those around her, and feels a deep sense of love for everyone regardless of their views and stances in relation to her proposed solution. She tends to see the best in others no matter how they may come across, and is consistently kind in all circumstances.
She is a very caring and sweet person whose good-heartedness marks her as one of the most beloved—and trusted—members of the Court.
(Neutral, calm tone)
"No, it's reasonable for him to demand answers, since no one really does know what's going on now..."
(Gentle, addressing Antonina's hopes about why they've been taken to a castle)
"I'm sorry, but I don't think that's it... We could be in serious danger..."
(Confident, standing up to the King)
"Wait... No... You say you're the king and rule here, but all together we would be way stronger than you..."
We’re looking for a voice that is soft and breathy, without too much emotion or energy but with an ability to become sharp if necessary - something on the more youthful side to fit with his age.
**An androgynous voice would be best (regardless of VA’s gender)**
Mid-high pitch.
Character Summary: Sasha introduces himself as cold and reserved, expressing a general unwillingness to interact with those around him. Due to the circumstances, he is reluctant to trust the others, and can’t see what benefit that is supposed to have anyway.
Headstrong and opinionated, he looks down on anyone whose beliefs contrast with his own, and despises hypocrisy above all else. His huffy tone, snide remarks, and overall impatience towards most others do little to earn people’s favor, but his loyalty to those he cares for is unconditional.
While he can be rather feisty and notably disdainful, he is a gentle soul deep down, one who prefers soothing activities such as writing, singing, and playing the piano over dealing with others.
(Neutral, disinterested tone)
"...I speak for all of us, but I am not certain of the other two. I know, however, that I have not found anything of value. My search was interrupted, after all, by an unforeseen and particularly irritating distraction."
(Worried, concerned, uncertain)
"All of this is horrifying as it is... I wouldn't want to make that worse by making connections with someone who seems like a probable candidate for first King's Champion."
(Crying, addressing his roommate after a tense conversation)
"...Please don't ever speak to me again..."
We’re looking for a voice that is gentle, but not timid - filled with resignation (for lack of a better word - as in, a generally less emotional tone, but not traditionally “flat” or entirely without feeling/life).
Medium pitch.
Character Summary: Often mistaken for being fearful and cowardly, Mikhail is actually rather unconcerned about the concept of death, and has accepted his fate since arriving at the castle. In reality, the one thing he is truly afraid of is being forced to live through the competition.
He presents himself as a quiet and thoughtful person, one who, despite his cynical nature, addresses those around him with gentle kindness, and possesses a deep understanding of others’ emotions. In his eyes, genuine goodness is not about strictly following society’s general concept of “morality,” but instead considering the needs and wants of every individual.
He is an exceptional musician with considerable fame, though his uncertain nature and tendencies to apologize and second-guess himself can at times distract from how knowledgeable he truly is.
(Neutral with underlying uncertainty, explaining why he chose to hide upon realizing he'd been kidnapped)
"But... It's safer here... You must've realized something is wrong by now..."
(Desperate, crying, talking about the competition and the King)
"How can we ever hope to stop something so certain and unavoidable..?! What could we possibly do against someone we know nothing about..?!"
(Resigned, NOT upset)
"...We've been forced into a situation where death is the only option. There's nothing I of all people can do about that..."
We’re looking for a voice that is distant and dazed, with a clear “spacey” quality and without any firmness (please make note of the fact that she speaks rather slowly, taking pauses between statements). She does not often express emotion, so we do not need anything expressive.
High pitch.
Character Summary: The first thing one might notice about Yana is that she is very spacey and unfocused, speaking slowly and taking pauses between statements. However, her dark perspective and overall negative outlook become more prominent rather early on.
Quick to adapt, she adjusts to new circumstances with unnerving ease, and the competition is no exception. She makes it clear that, regardless of how the others feel, she is fully prepared to take action if necessary, willing to murder another—though only because there’s no other choice, not out of any desire to do so.
As the concept of trusting one another becomes more relevant, she doesn’t disguise how ineffective she finds it to be, how she believes the competition will inevitably start and things like that won’t change anything or lead to escape.
(Slight rise in pitch, discussing theories about kidnapping)
".....What if we were perhaps.... dragged here to be executed..?"
(Calm, slightly happy)
"...You never know... It wouldn't be unlikely that at least one of us would... end up dead..."
(Calm, growing quieter towards end, explaining opinions on the competition)
"But it's simple... I'm prepared to die in this competition or kill to escape... It's nothing personal..."
We’re looking for a voice that is notably formal and mature, with a “fanciness” to it that suits his personality and upbringing. Nothing inexpressive or stiff, something that allows for a variety of emotions.
Mid-low pitch.
Character Summary: Generally serious and collected, Lavrenty presents himself as rather formal in mannerisms, though he gets noticeably flustered quite easily. He comes from a very wealthy but caring family, who he loves dearly and has a deeply meaningful bond with.
Always respectful towards those around him, he is evidently a non-confrontational person, one who remains patient with others and rarely loses his temper or gets into conflicts no matter the situation. He demonstrates a consistently compassionate nature, and despite his maturity, he shows clear softness and purity, especially when interacting with his roommate.
Baking is a hobby he particularly favors, and he would enjoy using that skill to spread joy to those around him.
(Very embarrassed, introducing himself)
"M-My name is... Lavrenty Yahontov... A-Ah, introductions are so embarrassing..!"
(Sad, caring)
"I-If there's any way I could prevent anything happening to you, then I-I'll do it."
(Serious, caring)
"Let's not talk like that... We should not give up now, and I won't let anything happen to you anytime soon..."
We’re looking for a voice that is dignified and sophisticated, with a very proper tone that does not convey much emotion or feeling. Not the traditional “flat” tone, but something with less flexibility.
Mid-low pitch.
Character Summary: Composed and imperturbable, Fadei’s unnervingly calm nature, combined with his excessively formal manner of speaking and strangely dark outlook, can be off-putting to some. His mannerisms may at times seem odd, but he is only doing what he can to assist in finding an escape.
His coldly realistic and logical perspective can cause him to come across as something of a contrarian, especially when the subject of trust is discussed. He doesn’t wish to cause tension, but his tendency to point out and criticize all possible issues can occasionally lead to conflict and fuel others’ uncertainty towards him.
Beyond his refined exterior, he is a deeply empathetic person, one who cares more about addressing the individual needs of those whose preferences are less likely to be considered than the assumed “greater good”.
(Neutral, explaining his distrust of Kostya and Olesya)
"But, realistically, anyone could be an enemy, correct? The individual who captured us could be lurking among us, hiding behind a friendly facade."
(Insincerely upset, responding to his roommate's negative reactions to him)
"That was a bit uncalled for, no..? You don't even know me, and already you've decided you dislike me."
(Serious, calm)
"Very well. I will choose to obey your command, as you will not do for me."
We’re looking for a voice that is loud and filled with playful energy, something fun (perhaps a bit overwhelmingly so, to the point of bordering on annoying). Slightly nasally, in a way that might remind one of a stereotypical “nerd”.
Mid-high pitch.
Character Summary: Perceived as obnoxious and annoying by most, Kuzma is often loud and teasing towards the others. It is not uncommon for him to be seen pestering his fellow participants, but this isn’t with any malicious intent, for he doesn’t truly want them to dislike him.
His contributions typically come in the form of witty remarks, references to a variety of media, and joking comments, sometimes even about his own misfortune. Overall, he gives off playful, mischievous energy, though he certainly does have a kinder, more understanding side, as is demonstrated by his interactions with and responses to his roommate over time.
He has peaceful hobbies which may seem to stand in contrast with his more wild personality, such as playing the guitar.
(Playful, pestering K, who is ignoring him)
"C'mon! Notice me, senpai!"
(Whiny)
"I’m trying to get this weird lady to speak! She keeps ignoring meee..!"
(Joking tone, slightly upset)
"Anyway, I guess I respect the fact that you want nothing to do with me. It makes sense, hehe..!"
We’re looking for a voice that is serious and firm, lacking sharpness but with a constant edge of annoyance. A generally flat tone that expresses clear certainty, but little emotion or concern.
Medium pitch.
Character Summary: From the start, K marks herself as somewhat more suspicious by refusing to share a single detail of her identity. Quiet and mysterious, she makes it clear that, while she doesn’t stand against the other fourteen victims, she doesn’t necessarily consider herself their ally either.
Her confident, sarcastic personality begins to show as she is forced to interact more closely with those around her, though she remains serious and stony throughout. Blunt and to-the-point, she won’t hesitate to share her opinion if she finds it to be necessary, regardless of how those around her might react, and due to her differing values and focus on the situation, she prefers to work alone whenever possible.
Her intelligence, combined with her sharp eye and attention to detail, allows her to piece things together very quickly, even while those around her struggle to do so.
(Neutral, mildly annoyed, finally "introducing" herself)
"...My name? Just call me K, and do me a favor and leave me alone from now on. That goes for all of you."
(Serious, determined)
"But I suppose it shouldn't matter what becomes of me at the end of the line, as long as I expose the King's motivation first."
(Sarcastic, commenting on her suspicions relating to the others and the competition)
"I don't trust a single one of you not to kill your ‘friends’ as soon as you're alone with them."
We’re looking for a voice that is very loud and brimming with life, with lots of energy and enthusiasm but that can easily switch to something more fiery, something angry and aggressive. Something that sounds almost harsh even when she is just excited/joking.
Medium/mid-high pitch.
Character Summary: Loud, brash, and always willing to speak her mind, Sabina makes up for her lack of intelligence with loads of confidence. Her high opinion of herself is clear in her actions and words, and she doesn’t take kindly to insults even when she’ll gladly give them out to others.
She doesn’t mind being excessively assertive if she finds it to be necessary, and no one can get away with criticizing her without facing an expletive-filled retaliation, though her mockery can at times come across as callous and insensitive. However, she does have a softer side, and truly cares for and believes in those around her regardless of how she may act towards them.
All things considered, she’s an energetic, fun-loving girl who values simple entertainment even in the face of suffering.
(Confident, boastful, bragging to Kostya about her "skills")
"What is it? Are you looking to be taken down by the hand game legend herself, too?!"
(VERY angry after being criticized by Kostya - CONTAINS SWEARING)
"Hey! Don't be such a condescending d*ckwad! Of course I've looked around, and that's how I know we've been taken to a hidden medieval resort to star in a reality TV show!"
(Enthusiastic, wondering about why she was taken to a castle)
"Ooh, do you think we're here for cooking classes?! Or maybe dance lessons..?!"
We’re looking for a voice that is sweet but with an ever-present edge of confusion and lack of awareness, to match with his personality and general demeanor.
Medium/mid-high pitch.
Character Summary: No one would ever accuse Valeri of being intelligent, as he demonstrates a consistent lack of awareness both in regard to the situation and in general. His behavior and way of speaking can often come across as immature, and he is easily entertained by childish things such as simple games.
While he isn’t a harsh or angry person overall, he can occasionally get grumpy, growing crabby in short spans though not for any particular reason or due to any significant cause. Furthermore, he shows that he is at times distrustful of those around him, out of personal dislike more so than anything logical or based on any meaningful suspicion.
He is not largely defined by the above qualities, however, and, in contrast, expresses a deep sense of love and care for those he does like, especially Kostya.
(Confused)
"This is a castle..?"
(Upset and worried at first, transitions to hopeful and happy, discussing why they've been taken to a castle)
"Huh?! Why would any of that happen....?! It's probably nothing..! Or maybe something good..?"
(Angry at first, begins to cry halfway through - said upon finding out who his roommate is)
"UGH! First this competition of death thing, now HIM?! Why... Why does this world hate me?!!"
We’re looking for a voice that is elegant and feminine, in a way that is warm but very mature, more womanly than girlish. It is essential to be able to express strong emotion, even when it does not necessarily seem warranted.
Medium/mid-low pitch.
Character Summary: Despite the situation, Lanassa makes an effort to remain loving and cheerful, rarely letting the horrors around her get her down too much. Affable and outgoing, she’s often the first to praise new ideas when they come up, and is set in the belief that working together is the key to escape.
While she can be rather maternal at times, caring for her fellow participants and taking on a stern, scolding tone when settling minor conflicts, her immature qualities balance out that trait. In many ways, she uses her energy and enthusiasm to try and make others more comfortable, attempting to distract from the situation and spread joy instead.
She does what she can to be a source of support for those around her, though in a sense she depends on them just as much, requiring the encouragement of others to succeed.
(Concerned, affectionate)
"I'm sorry, sweetie. I didn't mean to scare you, or to be so harsh..."
(Angry, scolding Kostya for mocking her)
"Hey! Don't you sass me, little boy. I was just wondering why you chose to come here of all places. There's nothing ridiculous about that."
(Distraught, crying, questioning the King)
"What would possibly prompt you to do this—?! Capturing random innocents and forcing them to murder each other... is insane!"
We’re looking for a voice that is casual and relaxed, something to suit his laidback nature. Not often emotional, but not notably flat or lifeless either - has personality.
Mid-low pitch
Character Summary: Like his father before him, Iona is an experienced gambler, whose skill allows him to collect considerable earnings despite his age and the illegality of such things in connection to that. Rather materialistic, he places great importance on money, and expresses interest in the many expensive things in the castle.
He comes across more laidback than most others, not often displaying strong emotional reactions or getting too involved in any debates or arguments when they occur. Despite this, though, he does demonstrate a tendency to complain about seemingly insignificant things, even when there may be more pressing issues at hand.
Underneath all of this, he is rather self-aware, acknowledging his many bad habits and conscious of his flaws as a person.
(Neutral, slightly happy, discussing his findings in the Royal Vault)
"No, there's nothing interesting in here, aside from all of this expensive stuff... It's gorgeous..."
(Angry to neutral, questioning the King)
"Hey, wait..! I have a question for you that you should be able to answer... What happens after someone murders..? Then what..?"
(Relaxed, talking about the competition with his roommate)
"...But I guess we should distract ourselves from that. There's no point in stressing over things we really can't change."
