"King Horatio" The Series - All Characters
Project Overview
About Me:
I have been the producer/co-producer for many projects since 2020. I have written, directed, acted and edited many projects for people, all of which are available to see on my Youtube channel's "Collaborations" playlist (found through the video attached).
I have also written for the BBC and Big Finish Productions in the past, although unfortunately those projects were never made due to various circumstances on their end.
At the moment, I am working on multiple projects (some my own and others in small parts for other people) as many writers - like myself - like to do multiple projects at the same time.
Background:
This project is based on a short audio story I did a few years ago (which is actually the video attached to this casting call). After it was finished and created, many people around me told me it was the best audio drama I had created (beating many of my fan-made doctor who audio episodes). And so, because I enjoyed writing such silliness, it's back in the form of a 10 episode long Non-Narrated Audio drama!
Humour:
The humour in this series is very silly, often not making a whole lot of sense (for instance a knight getting out an electric razor to sheer a sheep when they are actually in the times of King Arthur).
There is very mild language, quite a few childish jokes (farts, of course) and a few times where sexual jokes are hinted at but never actually made clear (if you're looking for them, you'll spot them).
Overall, this series isn't meant to make you laugh out loud, at most just make you smile or chuckle.
Story:
This series follows King Horatio and his misadventures as he tries (and sort of succeeds) to rule and protect his Kingdom: Meeyarsia. With his knights by his side (Cedrick, Vankalot and Nah) and his loyal squire (Bartholomew) helping him along the way, he spends much of the series trying to make alliances due to the threat of the Mercian army rumoured to try taking over many of the kingdoms. Including Meeyarsia!
Does he do it in time? Does he protect Meeyarsia from the threat of Mercia? I guess you'll have to find out!
Audition Instructions:
Everyone auditioning has to be at least 16 or over, with access to Discord or Emails (to talk and transfer files). And you must have access to some large file sending site (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc).
When you audition, please do the lines at least three times in three different ways, using your normal voice for at least one of the takes.
Feel free to improvise parts of the line if you think it'll help. Just make sure you do not change the meaning of the original line.
If you get cast for the role, I shall contact every actor on the CCC messaging system first, and send a link to the discord server where all actors, scripts and updates are. If you do not have discord, send me a message in the CCC chat containing your email.
The future of this Project:
I hope to do another series after this one is done and have so many ideas for potential episodes and storylines. But for right now, I am focusing on seeing how this series goes and going from there.
I have been advised by my proof-readers to contact the BBC in hopes of getting the final product broadcast onto the radio. Listening to the contents of other radio plays, I do think this could fit. So, I am just finding ways of contacting them in hopes that I can take this project further, hopefully helping any actors cast get more well-known. I have written for the BBC before but, unfortunately, it never went further than the script. But hopefully, this time is different!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and audition for this project!
Goodluck to anyone who auditions! I look forward to hearing every one of them!

This is a recurring character starting from episode 2 and has a constant presence up till the final episode: Episode 10.
She is pretty blunt about things, sees things as they are and thats it, no sugar coating. Never does something for nothing but still wants to help wherever she can. She feels indebted to King Horatio and his Kingdom for letting her stay in the kingdom after she was found in the forests nearby King Horatio's Kingdom.
She gets along very well with one of the knights.
This is one of those rare times where I don't have a specific voice in mind. I imagine a very normal English British voice, not posh, like all the other characters, just relaxed and normal. Good luck!

(fighting off bandits!) Stop! Get off me! I have no tricks! I am no witch!
Firstly, I am completely mind-boggled how you shrunk something of such a humongous size this much. And secondly, if it was that size, it probably took the original crafters years to make, and me, by myself, even longer.
(holding in laugh) That… Is literally the saddest thing I have ever heard. You have to depend on *Horatio* to make your days worthwhile…
Cedrick is a character that appears in episode 1, episode 6, episode 9 and episode 10.
He is a knight of Horatio's that thinks he is worthy of being a knight. But when he gets into combat for the first time ever in his 20 years of being a knight, he realises he really is not made for being a knight, so instead looks after horses. He spends most of episode 1 questioning his character and talking to a very intelligent horse which gives him the wisdom he needs to step away from being a Knight. (Of course, not weird at all!)
Probably the most opposite to Posh you can get! He is cockney but also says many northern phrases (Ayup, E-By-Gum, etc) And as such, you can do this submission in a more Northern voice if you'd like as well.

(inner conflict) That ‘orse was the most action I have had as a guard ever… ‘E’s like a guru… Maybe… No! I ‘ave to guard the castle! I ‘ave to guard it! (he hears the horse getting rowdy!) Although… I could learn some more stuff from ‘im… And ‘e is gettin’ rowdy… Hmmm.
I know but… After last night, I realised… I realised… That I didn't want to be a knight, that it wasn’t for me… (beat.) I was ‘oping sir, that I could maybe… Become a stable-keeper? It doesn’t look like you ‘ave one, and I really get on with Nah’s ‘orse and-
(A matter of urgency) Yes! You’re right! You’re extremely buff! It’s the quickest way we can get back to ‘oratio and tell him exactly whats goin’ on! But how about Buttercup and the other ‘orses?
He is in 2 episodes: Episode 2 and Episode 3.
He is the leader of the Handless Bandits that reside in the forests of King Horatio's Kingdom. His name is Slash and the people that take orders from him are Morice and Rob.
Thinks he is better than everyone but at the first sign of trouble, he's gone like a shot!
He's not the brightest, but even so, he wants to take over the forest surrounding Horatio's Kingdom and then take over the kingdom itself.
Not posh in the slightest. I recommend just having a play around with voices. You can do Cockney, Summerset accent, your normal voice, anything!

You brought every bloody knight of Kent here?! To our hideout?!
(mocking) Aww! Worried you were going to get hurt, are you!
Then how on gods, green, flat earth did you manage to steal almost everything in our cart? Quite the trick, wouldn’t you agree?
This character only appears for a short role in episode 3.
Another one of the bandits that takes orders from Slash.
Probably the least intelligent of the group. He doesn't fully know what's going on half the time and as such doesn't know the severity of certain situations.
Play around with accents, I am thinking Morice is a lot like Baldric from "Black Adder" in the way he sounds. British.

I can’t be living like this anymore, sir… I want our land back, our forest… Not some stuffy tent!
…Ooh… Have you got your nails done, my lord?
(disappointed) You got a bit of old cloth?
There are two guards that need voices, so for this two actors will be chosen! These are very small roles for one episode which is why both characters got put into one audition.
Some guards from Kent that follow the instructions of King Odo. They are terrified of King Odo and his threats. They follow Odo's orders without question.

(calling out) alright, mate! Just give it back to King Odo of Kent and no one will be hurt!
(running, calling out) I see him! He’s over there!
(small scared noise) Yes sir...
This is a character that is reoccurring. First appearing in episode 4, then reappearing in episodes 6, 8, 9 and 10.
At first, he is just there to spy on Horatio's Kingdom, but once he gets caught and leaves the kingdom, he returns with an army, looming on Horatio's borders. He works for the main villain of the series, acts like a right hand man.

Are we in… The castle of Meeyarsia?! …Ew… Come on, lads, let's go… I need to get back to Mercia and take a shower.
(weak, in pain) Oh, Horatio… Your father would not be very happy with you… ARGH!
We have nothing to worry about! Just get on with your training! This war is all but won and it’s not even started! // (chuckles) Horatio won’t even know what hit him… (to other soldiers) Come on, men! Strike harder! Faster! That's it!
Very similar to "Mercian Soldier", except it's just a smaller role. He is more of a worrier (not warrior, I mean someone that worries a lot) than Mercian Soldier, and often gets interrupted by Mercian Soldier. This character appears in episode 6.

Sir? Did you just see-
What do we do?
But sir-
He appears in episode 5 and episode 9.
Very Cockney.
This character is Bob. He is a builder. Except, he is a really terrible builder, not understanding how best to create an extension for Horatio in one episode that Horatio wants an extension. But, he assures everyone that he knows best, seeing as he has been in this of work for years.
Jim works for Bob, acting as a nice little comedic duo together.

- british (cockney)
Listen ‘ere, sunshine, we do things our way. Now, if you don’t like it, then scram.
That's what you get for standing next to the cannon, isn’t it? Brilliant aim, Jim!
I think I know what I am talking about, old man. A supporting column is a bit of hollow space that basically keeps the whole castle up. ...We can blast through that too, if you want. That way you get an even bigger throne room.
Appears in episode 5.
Is like the other half to Bob. He works under Bob but often questions some of Bobs decisions when it comes to building an extension.
He often comes out with weird phrases, especially given the situation.

On it boss!
Land ho! (he's firing a cannon)
Will it? (questioning his boss)
Appears in episode 6.
He is the king of Powys, and as such he is Welsh! He has a lot going wrong in his kingdom after his best knight left. Now, his army (which wasn't good anyway) is tending to the sheep more than they are being knights, wearing wellies instead of sabatons and on top of all that, Leod's his daughter is so annoying he is trying hard to get rid of her and there is fears of Mercia attacking! Oh dear!
With all this going on, he does try to keep calm but... He often gets a little angry, anger isn't in his usual character though, he is just a nice, polite, kind Welshman usually.

(having a go at his knights!) You were doing what with the sheep!? You are meant to be training! Not doing anything like that! Training, I say! What is wrong with you men!? Why have you given up training, when Mercia is going to be attacking any day now!? And what on earth is that on your feet?! Where are your sabatons?! Are they… Are they Wellington boots?! What are other Kingdoms going to think of us, when our knights don’t even wear armour!? They have made assumptions about us already! Our reputation is awful because of you idiotic knights! I- (this line is split up into sections in the script, I put it all in one for the audition)
How have you been, Horatio? Last time I saw you, you were only very small. I am sorry about your father.
That is very kind of you… (sigh) Ever since Nah left, our army has been better at dealing with sheep than soldiers… We are nowhere near being able to go up against Mercia, are we? And they have already started preparing their assault.
Appears in episode 6.
This is the daughter of King Leod. She is not the nicest character. Forcing herself on people she likes, being endlessly rude to those she doesn't like. Her father is always trying to get her to marry a king so she doesn't have to stay in Powys (her father's kingdom), but every time she meets with a potential husband, she often pretends to be ill just so she doesn't have to marry them.
There is only two people she loves: King Arthur of Camelot and Sir Nah of Meeyarsia (formerly of Powys).
She is Welsh, like her father! But if you want to do a weaker Welsh accent, that is also fine, maybe she hates the accent she grew up with?
- english
- female young adult

Oh, this one with the beard is a handsome devil! Love myself a man with a beard, I do! Just like King Arthur’s friend…
What? Ew, no. I don’t want to marry you! I said someone dashing! ...Someone like King Arthur… or that really handsome knight we used to have here some months ago… That knight of few words. I loved him…
Nah! My love! Help me! You are the only one that can help me!
Appears in episode 6.
He is a old man who guards Powys. Well past his prime. He is also hard of hearing. But even with all that, he is probably the only Knight in Powys that is loyal to the kingdom and wants the Kingdom to be safe, taking his job of guarding much more seriously than the knights of Powys do with training.
Very strong Welsh accent. (not too strong so it can't be understood, though)

(calling down from top of tower) Sorry!? What was that Boyo?! Speak up!
(through wheezing coughs) One second… (wheezing coughing for a bit) They are from Mercia, sir!
(crying) This is so beautiful!
Appears in episode 7.
I think we all know the legend of King Arthur and the round table. King Arthur: the courageous King of Camelot with a lion's bravery and huge kindness.
Well, this is much of the same. Except, in this, Camelot is seen as the kingdom of the "cool kids". And as such, Arthur thinks he is extremely, extremely cool (he is seen as somewhat of a celebrity).
Although his father (King Uther) is still alive and willing to rule Camelot, Arthur instead rules the throne while his father is "ill" (his father isn't) and has even made some changes to the kingdom, which he thinks are important.
Very posh British!

Father, I have commanded armies into swarms of dragons. I think the army and I can deal with a few hundred men trying to invade.
Stop right there, you thieves! You have failed!
It’s not an alliance! Camelot doesn’t do alliances! They work strictly alone!
Appears in episode 7.
Merlin! Arthur's good friend! Arthur's mentor! An old man who wants nothing more than to protect Arthur and Camelot.
What Arthur doesn't know about Merlin is that Merlin possesses magic. But only uses that magic to help Arthur!

But sir! That room is sacred! We cannot let these… These people in there!
(a tense moment) Sir… He could… Scratch it…
Autographs will be on sale after this meeting.
Appears in episode 7.
He is the bedbound father of Arthur. Why is he bedbound? Because Arthur wanted him to be so that Arthur could be king.
- male adult
- british
All I did was have a walk around the kingdom. I am fine, I do not need to stay in this bed. I can run the kingdom.
No! I am King! And I say DO. NOT. MAKE. AN. ALLIANCE. WITH THEM! Do not!
(calling out) Not yet! I’m not dead yet! Until then, I am still king!
Appears in episode 7.
A soldier of Camelot. Loyal to Arthur and to Camelot no matter what. Well... Until a horse comes barrelling towards them and they jump out of the way to save themselves.
- male adult
- british
Sir! Look up there! They are rolling the Stelliform table up that slight incline!
I am not getting trampled by those horses! I’m moving!
But isn’t that the sacred table?
She appears in Episode 8.
Caroline used to be the queen of Mercia. But she left due to the stress of controlling and looking after such a vast kingdom, not only that, but with King Offa's (her grandfather's) legacy to live up to, she feels so much pressure to do well, too much pressure.
She is a very tough woman, very independent, you don't want to treat her the wrong way or you will regret it.
- british
- female young adult
(offended, calling out) Oi! That's my Grandfather’s Dyke you’re talking about! Who’s there!
I don’t want to be queen… I seemed to realise that when I got this letter from your father… I hate the responsibility, the feeling of having to live up to my grandfather’s legacy. It’s almost as if King Eustatius knew I didn’t truly want to be queen… Especially of such a vast and important kingdom… He said if I met you, you could help me disappear. Stop being queen without my kingdom realising.
Although your father’s idea is a grand one… I cannot do it… I want to be unattached to all royalty…
Appears in episode 8, 9 and 10.
He is the current monarch of Mercia and the father of Horatio. King Eustatius left Meeyarsia, managed to convince Queen Caroline off the throne of Mercia and took the throne for himself. And now... He has ordered for the knights of Mercia to take back the land that used to belong to Mercia back in the days of King Offa. King Eustatius wants the kingdoms of Meeyarsia, Camelot, Powys and many others to become Mercia as they were before.
King Horatio thinks his father is dead throughout the entire series until... The war begins!
Basically, he is the villain of the series.

(his soldiers confused why he is here) What do you think? I have come to the front line to take what is rightly mine. …Tell them all to stop. I need to speak with them.
All of you here today are valiant warriors, fighting for a great cause. You are even training through the night! But save your strength. Tomorrow, we shall take back what was rightly ours, the two kingdoms that used to be owned by Mercia in the times of Offa. Meeyarsia and then Camelot!
(to himself) Let's see how much of a King my son really is… Let's see if he can even do anything against my army. …I doubt it.
