Beyond the Bramble
Project Overview
PROJECT OVERVIEW
What happens when you lose your shadow and stumble into a world you were never meant to find?
We are developing a unique, narrative-driven fitness app that uses immersive storytelling to motivate users to get moving. This isn't just an audiobook, it's an audio experience designed to accompany users on their daily walks. This story takes listeners on a journey through Fairyland, where magic is mundane, danger is delightful, and nothing is quite what it seems.
We are currently in the prototype phase and are looking for a core group of talented voice actors to bring the first 2 chapters to life. Our goal is to expand this journey to a fuller season in the coming months, offering the opportunity for long-term, ongoing collaboration as the story grows.
THE STORY
After losing your shadow, you find yourself transported to Fairyland, a lush, strange, and thoroughly absurd realm. With the help of an unlikely cast of guides and oddballs, you'll navigate its wonders in search of what was taken from you.
The tone is warm, whimsical, and gently funny. This is cozy fantasy built for moving through the world.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Distinctive Voices: Each character inhabits a very different corner of Fairyland. We're looking for performers who can find something specific and surprising in the material.
Consistency: This is a serialized story. We are looking for actors interested in reprising their roles across future chapters as the season grows.
Naturalistic Delivery: Even the most fantastical characters should feel present and real, like a story being told to you on a walk, not performed at you from a stage.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS & SUBMISSION
Audio Quality: Clean recordings with minimal floor noise (no fans, AC, or heavy room reverb).
Editing: Please provide your best 2–3 takes for each line. No added music or sound effects.
Format: High-quality .MP3 or .WAV files.
Communication: We will primarily coordinate through Discord or email.
COMPENSATION & CREDITS
Payment: This is a paid opportunity. Rates for the prototype phase are $20 (USD) per working hour.
Credit: All actors will be credited within the app's interface and on our official website and social media at launch. Promoting our talent matters to us.
DEADLINES

Do you like my outfit? I thought purple was fitting. Reed gathered the petals from the hyacinths. Oh, my dear, you can’t go like that, though.
The lotus eaters were a dear group in their own way, though they were terribly boring.
A friend who's dragged you out for a game of disc golf. She is the story's warm, grounded opening voice, affable and casual, the kind of person who talks with her hands and always has a good story. She's the gateway into the magic before the magic takes over.
Voice: Friendly, adventurous texture.

It’s a simple enough game, really. You start from the tee line and throw the disc along the course.
It’s not the most athletic sport, but it’s something. Honestly, my favorite part about it is getting to see the courses.
The mischievous escort into Fairyland. He is ancient, restless, and very hard to pin down, equal parts charming and untrustworthy. He likes to speak in poetry and break into song.
Voice: Sprightly and joking, with flickers of something much older underneath.
Extra skills: Singing and humming

What have we here? Someone lost in the hawthorn’s shadow? That’s not a great place to be, dear.
River, wend, wind and whirl, come forth and speak. I need to hear your council wisdom deep.
A slow-moving, ancient spirit who ferries us between realms. River is paternal in the best sense, unhurried, gently funny, deeply kind. There's no rush when you are the river.
Voice: Smooth, quiet, warmly chuckling.

Ideas be what they are, the queen was not amused. Do you wish to cross?
On our course to the palace, I must eddy for a moment. The water gardens are the home of my daughter.
The formally-attired, deeply serious, completely ridiculous guard at the palace gates. He is doing a very important job and he will not be hurried, charmed, or reasoned with. He oscillates between thunderous proclamations and stiff near-whispers.
Voice: Alternately booming and hushed. Stiff, harsh, overtly formal, and very funny.
