Mr. House / René Auberjonois Impression

Project Overview

INTRODUCTION
Hello! This is not a casting call, per se.  We are testing the waters to see if there is a pool of actors from which to draw in the event that we decide to go forward with a project presently in the design stages.  Specifically, we're looking for an actor who can impersonate the inimitable tone, accent, and cadence of René Auberjonois as Mr. House in Fallout: New Vegas.

Please note that although there is no ‘project’the winning audition will be paid.

ABOUT MR. HOUSE
In Fallout: New Vegas, Robert House was the self-styled president, CEO, and sole proprietor of the New Vegas Strip in the Mojave Wasteland in the year 2281. Prior to the Great War, House was an ever-alluring, reclusive enigma to the world and a veritable celebrity with various tabloids and news articles covering his every move in business and private life. His founding of RobCo Industries propelled him to the top through business savvy using mathematical prediction algorithms; gaining the envy of other roboticists and corporations through sheer success.

ABOUT RENÉ AUBERJONOIS
René Auberjonois, born in New York City in 1940, was an American actor best known for playing Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He was also a noted voice actor, having appeared as Mr. House, Talos in God of War, Janos Audron in the Legacy of Kain, Karl Schäfer in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.  He was also active in radio drama and animation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ideally an XLR microphone, but please don't be discouraged if you're using a USB microphone.  I'm more interested in acting and skill with mimicry than mic quality, but reverb, plosives, peaking, and a high noise floor will detract focus from your ability.
  • Knowledge of Fallout: New Vegas may be valuable for providing familiarity with the character's voice, but is not at all required.

PAYMENT
$25 is paid for the cast audition. No additional lines beyond the audition will be required, nor will the winner be guaranteed a role in the future project (if it moves forward). Payment will be made via PayPal within days of choosing the winning audition.

No feedback will be provided.

Shrewd, arrogant, reclusive, and gifted with a towering intellect, House is based on Howard Huges and voiced by René Auberjonois. His accent is archaic, mid-century Mid-Atlantic.

Please give us your best René Auberjonois/Mr. House impression.  And while having a tone similar to the original will undoubtedly help, we're really more interested in hearing effort placed on mimicking the unusual accent and delivery style of the original.

Of course you haven't. Vegas always was one of a kind. What you see down on the Strip is just a fraction of the city's former glory, and yet... more than an echo. I preserved its spirit.

  • [Restraining anger, losing it a little towards the end.]
By the time I was 30 years old, I was a billionaire 30 times over. I founded and ran a vast economic empire.  Do you really think I'm going to let an upstart come into my home and ransom my property to me? I spent two centuries searching for the Platinum Chip. It's my invention, my property - mine. Now be a good courier and deliver it!

  • [Amused.]
It's curious.  I've noticed that even those who claim everything is predetermined and that we can do nothing to change it look before they cross the road.
