HORIMIYA Trailer Fandub
Project Overview
Ahoy! I am looking for some talents to help create a high-quality fandub of the trailer for the Winter 2021 animated masterpiece "Hori-san to Miyamura-Kun", more commonly referred to as Horimiya.
This has got to be one of my favorite shows of all time; from its cast of unique, bright characters to its comedic take on romance to its bittersweet storyline, it invokes a fictional brilliance I've seen not often. For this casting call, I have done my very best to apply basic explanations for each of the characters in this wonderful cast, with minimal spoilers. I am looking for voices that will suit each character, and not necessarily copies of the Japanese or official English Dub voices. This final product will be uploaded to YouTube in full on my personal channel. Just a couple base rules before applying:
- Decent microphone quality: At the minimum, minimal background noise or echo; USB and XLR mics are preferred, however any other type qualifies if it can be made to sound presentable enough. Also, please keep mouth clicks or other undesirable sounds to a minimum.
- Deadlines: I will not accept auditions after the deadline, and if cast for the project, lines must be turned in promptly after a given deadline, with ample communication if one cannot meet the assigned date.
- Directions: Please read the character description before auditioning to make sure you have a basic understanding of the character, and follow the vocal directions for each line when auditioning.
- Takes: Two to three takes per line please, with variation in either the voice itself, or presentation of the line!
- Contact: Please leave a method of contact along with your audition; preferably, leave a discord tag or other social media I may contact you with, as that will be most accessible for a simpler project such as this.
No knowledge of the show is required before auditioning! As long as you can follow the descriptions given for a character, you have just as great of a shot as any of making the cut. Kyouko is normally a very energetic and popular person who always creates a happy atmosphere around herself. She is a hard-worker in all aspects of her life, and she is described by Miyamura to have scores above 90% for all her tests. When nervous or embarrassed, she tends to switch to a violent state.
She has an expressive, relatively mature, powerful medium range voice.
(quiet, thoughtful) "It seems...other than me...Miyamura doesn't show this side of him to others."
(emotional, upset) "Why do you care so much about my problems?! Stupid!"
(incredulous, stunned) "Sometimes I'm not sure if you're incredibly bold or incredibly stupid."
Toru is commonly shown as the most normal out of all the characters, with his only odd characteristic being his dreams. He is shown to have very jealous instincts and an explosive temper at times, but he is introspective and reasonable when left to his own thoughts.
Toru generally has a calm, mid-deep voice that can sometimes be very full of emotion.
(calm) "This is weird coming from me but...I do not hate you. You're just a little clumsy."
(thoughtful) "The snow melts because it decides to melt on its own, no matter how badly anyone wants it to stick around, the snow makes its own decision to melt."
(unsettled, quiet) "I never expected this from him."
Yuki has a typical bubbly and ditzy personality who often creates a fun and happy atmosphere for those close to her, though she can be quite lazy which is evident by her tendency to sleep during class. She is easy to get along with and makes friends relatively quickly. However, Yuki often tries to hide her negative feelings—especially in front of friends—by pretending that she is alright and doesn't care about her own problems. As she is reserved when it comes to her own feelings, she never tells anyone how she really feels or what she really wants.
Yuki has a lighthearted, energetic mid-high voice.
(bored) "I don't know why, but lately I always see them together."
(shocked, then confused) "Wait, what!? ... Egg time?"
Shu is loud and outgoing. He's best friends with Ishikawa. He likes to play pranks on people, and tends to be the one starting the games or activities done by the group. Seemingly destined to never have a girlfriend, Shu spends a lot of his time bemoaning this fact. It is mentioned that if Shu would just be quiet sometimes, there would probably be a lot more girls interested in him. But Shu replies that if one were to take away his energeticness, what would be left?
Shu has an unbelievably energetic, slightly raspy, high-pitched voice. When he’s not with his friends, he’s shown to have a much more bored and lower tone.
(excited, impatient) "Hey! It's time for sports class!"
(uncharacteristically serious) "You're always throwing your notes and textbooks at me, so I took a peek. You're trying really hard."
Sengoku is a rather shy boy who gets embarrassed easily. The slightest thing will make him cower in fear, especially things to do with horror or insects. Sengoku is very smart and serious, normally ranked #1 in terms of grades in the school. He enjoys reading and has an incredible level of concentration while doing so, the point of ignoring everything else going around him. He is generally not very expressive with his emotions. The sole exception is his anger or irritation, which he shows all the time as he is the Student Council President. Even though he makes threats and gets angry towards those breaking the rules, he doesn't actually like doing so.
Kakeru possesses a smooth, mid-ranged voice. He uses a slightly commandeering tone, which tends to morph sporadically into childlike intonation whenever he’s not on student council duty.
(serious) "We just want you to apologize."
(uncertain, nervous) "H-Hey, did something change for you lately, Sakura? You seem happier, but I don't think it's because something good happened..."
(frightened, traumatized) "The mantis! The mantis is gonna stare at me!"
Remi is usually depicted as a rather childish girl who has a very straightforward personality and who wears her emotions on her sleeve. She seems to rely on other people's help regularly. She's also not very smart, often compared to Izumi Miyamura about which one is more of an idiot.
Remi has a slightly child-like, high-pitched voice that often has an aloof tone, but sometimes shows a great deal of cunning.
(serious, curious) "Hori, are you Miyamura's girlfriend?"
(awkward, curious) "What if the world was gonna end tomorrow? What would you do?"
(frantic) "Th-They're not mine! They're my Dad's! I'll take them down!"
Sakura is a well-rounded, kind, and responsible person. She is very hardworking, making sure that the Student Council does its work, as well as any follow-up work. She is also quite conservative as she refuses to admit that she has feelings for Toru. She is insecure of herself, so much so that she at one point expresses envy of her close friend Remi, who Sakura believes is cute, unlike herself.
Sakura’s voice is generally lower-pitched, serious, and less expressive than the people around her.
(unfocused, melancholy) "Huh? Oh, I'm heading home. Sorry I can't help you clean. "
(refuting, calm) "I'm not alone. I have Remi and Sengoku and they do their best to try to handle as much as they can."
Kouichi is shown to have a very kind and upbeat personality, always seen smiling, and very popular in middle school, where he befriended Izumi Miyamura in junior high school when many others outcasted him. After junior high, Kouichi goes to an advanced high school in order to see through his goals to reach for greater heights.
Kouichi has a peppy, expressive, and kind voice.
(uncertain, responding to "Are you close with your girlfriend?") "Kinda? Though lately she's been busy studying for exams."
(happy, whispering) "Miyamura looks like he's having fun."
