Project Overview
Howdy! We’re putting together a video series called Homestuck: Very Special Edition. It aims to adapt the story in a concise and humorous fashion.
This casting call is for the trolls introduced in Act 3 and early Act 4, which means Karkat, Kanaya, Tavros, and Terezi.
To be clear, we're not dubbing the entirety of the Homestuck comic like Voxus’ Let's Read series. Instead, we're abridging the comic: boiling down the story & characters to their core emotional and thematic elements, while retaining the tone, structure, and spirit of what (we think) Hussie was going for. This comes from a lot of rereading, analysis, and very nerdy debate.
Here’s our series playlist to give you an idea of what this all looks like in video format.
This is a non-profit fan project, a last hurrah for a lot of us who have been bitter, unresolved Homestuck fans for years. After all, while we may not be fans of the more recent installments of the comic, there was still something about the original that connected with us, and inspired us to work on projects like these in the first place. It’s that spark we’re trying to capture and explore with every new Act.

Personality: Loud, abrasive, deeply insecure
Karkat is a very crabby troll. He’s brash and ornery and swears constantly. But this is just a front. His anger is a defense mechanism masking his vulnerability and fear of rejection. As a mutant-blood in a brutal society, Karkat grew up constantly on edge, forced to hide who he is. This internal pressure forged a troll with bark, bite, and a desperate desire to connect... in the worst possible way.
He’s obsessed with romance (all four troll quadrants), even if his own pairings tend to fall apart. He pretends to be a competent leader and to a certain extent he is, being able to corral his friends into a successful Sgrub session. But their victory is short-lived when a demon enters their completed session and wreaks havoc. Now, he and his friends hide in the Veil, awaiting annihilation.
For his voice, we’re looking for someone able to balance comedy with intensity. He yells A LOT, but it's not just noise. His outbursts are layered with pain, guilt, and awkward vulnerability. A strong performance will find those cracks in the anger.

Kanaya is refined, poised, and thoughtful. She speaks with a deliberate cadence and an air of sophistication, masking a deep yearning for connection behind careful words and graceful restraint. She’s an alien vampire fashionista who cares deeply about others, often to the point of meddling in their business.
As a jade-blood, Kanaya plays a vital role in troll reproduction and tradition. She forms a slow-burn romance with Rose Lalonde, revealing a more vulnerable and passionate side. When pushed, she can become flustered, fiercely protective, or even deadly serious.
For her voice, we’re looking for someone who can convey her reserved and elegant vibe while hinting at the emotional depth beneath her cool exterior. Subtlety, warmth, and precision in delivery are key.

Personality: Hesitant and unsure, with a waning confidence
Tavros is shy, insecure, and physically disabled, after a serious injury from his past. He struggles with confidence and self-worth, frequently being manipulated or talked over by stronger personalities. Yet, despite his hesitations, he displays surprising emotional insight and moments of quiet bravery that reveal a hidden core of strength. He’s the kind of guy who talks to animals and believes in fairy tales. He has the heart of a hero, even if he doesn’t always believe in himself.
Tavros is a tragic figure early on, representing insecurity and powerlessness. His dynamic with Vriska is emotionally intense and explores themes of autonomy, abuse, and recovery. Over time, he starts to stand up for himself and seek independence, representing one of Homestuck’s quieter arcs of personal growth.
For his voice, we’re looking for something hesitant and soft-spoken, with occasional bursts of conviction. A strong portrayal of Tavros requires empathy and nuance.

Terezi is eccentric and brilliant, with a twisted sense of humor and a flair for the dramatic. She’s a dedicated roleplayer and aspiring legislacerator, obsessed with justice and the rule of law, though her sense of “justice” is often deeply personal and chaotic. She’s blind, but navigates the world using her other heightened senses and synesthesia, often perceiving people and emotions through color and smell with an almost supernatural clarity.
Despite her playfulness, Terezi is emotionally complex. Her rivalry with Vriska, her guilt over past mistakes, and her manipulation of the timeline all contribute to a tumultuous inner world she hides behind mischief and irony. She’s a moral wildcard: sometimes a hero, sometimes a saboteur, always unpredictable.
Terezi is one of Homestuck’s most beloved and layered characters. For her voice, we’re looking for someone who can embrace her raspy, theatrical delivery while grounding her in quieter, more vulnerable moments. Vocal range, emotional control, and a sense of play are key.
