Karkat is a very crabby troll. He’s brash and ornery and swears constantly. But this is just a front. His anger is a defense mechanism masking his vulnerability and fear of rejection. As a mutant-blood in a brutal society, Karkat grew up constantly on edge, forced to hide who he is. This internal pressure forged a troll with bark, bite, and a desperate desire to connect... in the worst possible way.
He’s obsessed with romance (all four troll quadrants), even if his own pairings tend to fall apart. He pretends to be a competent leader and to a certain extent he is, being able to corral his friends into a successful Sgrub session. But their victory is short-lived when a demon enters their completed session and wreaks havoc. Now, he and his friends hide in the Veil, awaiting annihilation.
For his voice, we’re looking for someone able to balance comedy with intensity. He yells A LOT, but it's not just noise. His outbursts are layered with pain, guilt, and awkward vulnerability. A strong performance will find those cracks in the anger.
