Heartsong (Original 1-hour Musical Film)

Heartsong (Original 1-hour Musical Film)

Project Overview

This is a musical that I wrote at the end of high school and continued through the beginning of college. It was originally intended for the stage, but I've decided to adapt it for the screen. The musical is basically a cute and slightly funny high school romance between two music enthusiasts who struggle to balance the realities of life with their romantic fantasies. It's a 50-minute read, with 9 original songs, plus four reprises and three preprises. Everyone in the cast should be able to sing, with the exception of the Manager and possibly Justin's Mother and the Student Extras. Please record with a good quality microphone. I will not accept recordings from phones or built-in laptop microphones. If you can manage to get a better mic before the role is cast, message me, and I'll let you redo your audition.

Besides voice actors, I also need an animator and a storyboard artist. None of this is paid, since this is only a side project for me, but everyone involved will be credited at the end of the film and given a copy of the final product.

  • Rose’s Mother Reopened!

The role of Rose’s Mother has been reopened! If any of you wanted to audition but didn’t get to because it was closed, feel free to submit an audition now!
  • Animator is now PAID!

I've been having trouble finding someone to do the visuals of this project, so I've decided to put all of the money I have available to spend toward hiring an animator. The animator will now be paid $300 to work on this project. I hope this attracts more people.

  • 2. "Well...I...I fell in love."

    3. (Shouting in heated argument) "Rose, it's work! I have a responsibility to attend my shifts! You wouldn't understand, because you're too "precious" to have to go out and work for yourself! You have your mom do everything for you!"

A minor non-singing role. He's basically the only human source of tension in this story. He speaks slowly and professionally, but menacing at times. He's menacing underneath, but has a facade of professionalism on top of it. I'm thinking sort of Anton Ego from Ratatouille for the menacing parts.

  • 1. Ah, Jared. I see you got my message. Please, have a seat.

  • 2. I've called you to my office to discuss your absence during shifts.

  • 3. "Jared, as an employee, you have a responsibility to fulfill your duties at work. If you aren't attending to your work, what kind of employee would you be then? (Pause, then menacingly:) I'd say you wouldn't be an employee at all."

    4. "If you show that you care about your job, I'll be happy to keep working with you. But one more missing shift, (menacingly:) and you're fired. (Pause) Understand?"
