Gods and Monsters; A Hetalia Comic [Artists and VAs Needed]

Project Overview

It's the 1700s, and things are not going well for England, who is struggling between dealing with a disobedient America, who wants nothing but independence, and Canada, who is bitter due to his brother's absence and betrayal. France, meanwhile, is forced to deal with loyalties to both colonies of England's, but also the personification of the British Empire himself. As tensions rise, and sides are picked, the four realize that this war will lead to a chain reaction that will shake the core of both the New and Old Worlds to their very foundations.

A historical Hetalia comic/animation (depending on the artists preference) that is based in the eighteenth century. This is pre-American revolution, during it, and after it, along with the French Revolution, Napoleonic Wars, and many other historical moments. The script was written by Will (me) and will be cast by Jace (co-writer). For more information, or if you have any questions, my Instagram is @historicalnations , where I will leave regular updates plus a link to this page in my bio, and also where you can view my writing etc. The characters mentioned will be leads, however, there will be many other characters who will be supporting characters with big parts. Please audition for your character of desire in their accent. Thank you!

NOTE; The first auditions are only for the main characters of England, France, Canada and America. The supporting characters' auditions will be up shortly after I have decided the main cast!!

England [Arthur Kirkland]

England is a power-hungry, sometimes cruel and manipulative, always grouchy and sharp, Empire, who loves nothing more than flaunting power and keeping his colonies in line. Power has gone to his head, and he is a lot more arrogant and cruel than shown in canon. Under this, however, he is terrified of being alone, and being 'just another little island' like he used to be, which is why he is so desperate to keep his Empire strong and powerful. He favors America a lot over his other colonies, however, as soon as he realizes he's lost control over him, tries to crack down harder on him. England struggles with alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with stress and America, and can often use strong language. He's yet to realize he's given up his friends and family for his Empire, though claims that his loneliness is natural, refusing to listen to France, who often tries to persuade him to go back to his old self. He is a sarcastic and cold man, who does care about his family, but pushes it all aside for glory. After he loses America, England spirals somewhat, avoiding his former colony and all those that helped him, both out of embarrassment and upset, as well as anger. He is oblivious to the problems he is causing his other colonies, and those round about him. Vindictive and easily jealous, the British Empire is not a nice man, not at first.

  • (Talking to self) How the brat got so insolent in the first place, I’ll never know. Was I too lenient on him? I knew I shouldn’t have played favorites with the boy, but I didn’t think it would lead to this. I never once thought... (To Canada) He didn’t tell you anything about his plans, did he, Canada? No, no, you’re obedient and grateful, unlike him! You would have told me sooner. It truly is a mystery as to how the two of you are related, the insolent, ungrateful little cockroach that he is!

  • I suppose you think you’re clever, do you? You won against the British Empire, turning me into the laughing stock of Europe upon my defeat, and now you want to make a mockery of me in my own home! I was in the middle of a business meeting, you little brat, so if you want to talk to me, you can wait until I’m bloody well finished. In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m in the middle of a war with France. You’re hardly my main concern.

  • France, I’m not sure you quite understand how Empires work. They work off money, power, colonies. Not friends. Whoever heard of an Empire who became powerful with friends? Perhaps that's why you're doing so abysmally as one. I have allies, and I have colonies, of which you, regrettably, are neither. So, no, I don’t require your help or companionship. I never have, and I never will.

France is recovering from the last war England won against him, and mourning the loss of his son while plotting revenge on England. He has not lost himself to power the way England has, and he is still the same stubborn and dramatic man as he’s always been, but there is an air of seriousness and ruthlessness to him that comes with being an Empire of the Old World in his voice. He misses Canada dearly, and misses the relationship he and England used to have as children. He resents England dearly for stealing Canada away from him and subsequently causing France so much pain, but is also determined to cause England the same pain he felt all those years ago. France desperately hoped that the New World would be better than the Old World, and that they would not fight or declare war, and he is angry at every Empire, including himself, for allowing war to break out. Nevertheless, he supports America's desire for independence, because he feels he deserves it, because he wants to take revenge on England, and mostly because he is sure this will help him gain back Canada. France is sly and cunning, and is not afraid to be manipulative sometimes, even if he doesn't like it.

  • My old friend, I think you’re missing the point. Helping dearest Alfred is not only a way to lose some of that weight you’ve been gaining, but it also is a way to anger Angleterre. Think of this as a little experiment. Wait a while before saying no, would you? If Alfred can hold out for a while without our help against England, I’ll be more than happy to help him out. We swore only last month that Arthur would rue the day he made an enemy out of us, did we not? And to do that, we have to strike him where it hurts... his precious son.

  • You think I wanted to leave you with him? A drunkard and a manipulator? Never! Dieu, Matthew, you have been poisoned against me by his words. I never wanted to leave you. You were – are – my son. That hasn’t changed, even if you believe it has. Angleterre is bad at many things, but one thing he is especially good at is, unfortunately, running a successful Empire. I put up a fight against him, but I was no match. This is why you brother has come to me for help. You can rebel too. As soon as Alfred wins, England will be weakened. That will be your chance!

  • (disgustedly) You are a sorry excuse for a human being, Arthur. You play God without knowing the consequences, and look where it has brought you. How long has it been since you have felt pity, love, anything other than greed and anger and bitterness? What happened to the child that braided my hair in the forest? How many did you have to kill for that child to turn into... into this?

America [Alfred Jones]

America is not yet the hero he will become in canon - he is yet to be shaped by his revolution and the harsh reality of being a nation. As of this, he is still rather immature and oblivious, but much smarter than people give him credit for, as well as a lot more selfish. He has a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong initially, but also a desperate desire to make England notice him as an equal, rather than as an inferior. America is extremely prideful, if inexperienced, and although he has been sheltered from the horrors of war due to being brought up with England, he is prepared to do anything to win his independence. For all he denies it, he and England are very similar - both have tempers, and the thirst for power, and put their nations and this power-hunger over their family and friends. America sees himself not as England, however, but as the manifestation of what the New World should represent - something that only adds to his arrogance that grows after he wins his war. He doesn't give much regard as to how his opinion or actions affect others until the consequences come back to bite him; all he cares about is showing England he is worthy of being equal if not greater, and keeping his people happy and free.

  • (to Canada) Look, this looks bad, but you have to believe me, I’m not doing this because I want to, Canada. I’m doing it because it’s the only way to get the old man’s attention. He’s killing my men, and I’ve had enough! This is the only way he'll pay attention. You understand, right?

  • (angrily, should get more angry as it goes on) I’m not just one of your puppets, ready to be controlled and made to dance to your music! I might be young, but goddamn, I’m old enough to know what’s wrong and right. You might have tried to hide me away from my destiny this far, but you can’t do it for any longer. This is who I am. This is who I deserve to be. I’m not your son any more, England, and you're not my father. It’s time to put an end to this.

  • (nervous, to Prussia) Yeah, that would be great! Uh, I mean – yes please, sir, that would be much appreciated. I promise to work hard, and- and I swear you won’t regret this. Helping me, I mean. It’ll certainly piss off Britain, that’s for sure. D’you think he’ll be mad at me?

Canada [Matthew Williams]

Canada is a tad different from how he is in canon - namely, he isn't as quiet and painfully shy as he is in the actual anime and manga. Canada is a young teen, who still desperately misses France as his caretaker, but has an odd desperation to defend and look after England, especially after America leaves. Bitter and upset at his brother leaving, Canada seems far more mature than he looks, and defends England loyally even though the Empire will barely give him a glance. In a way, he is attempting to prove to England why he is the better child, not America - England's blatant disregard of him as a child gave him some serious confusion as to why he was so ignored. Desperate for attention and love, eager to please his 'father', Canada develops a hatred of his brother, who has left England in what he believes to be a cruel attempt to break their family apart, and also develops a love-hate feelings towards France - on one hand, he loves France as a son loves a father, but knows England would not approve at all. After the war, Canada is tasked with the job of keeping England safe and stable after America's absence impacts them both heavily, and begins drinking himself, both to cope with everything and to follow England's example. France eventually finds this out, and forces him to undergo a heavy detox. After this, Canada becomes largely disillusioned to England's real character, and after fighting largely with him, moves to live on his own, while not asking for independence. All of this makes him a stringer character, who is far more blunt, weary of the world, and cynical, though still very much childishly optimistic to an extent.

  • (to England, nervous and apprehensive about speaking so bluntly, but desperate and angry at the same time) This will never be enough for you, will it? You have power, you have wealth, you have most of the world in your hands... and still you’re not happy. You don’t know why, but I do. You’re lonely, England. You’re lonely, because you’ve left your friends and family for this goddamn Empire! You don’t know how to love anymore, and I pity you. I really do. And you know the worst part? You only have yourself to blame.

  • You don’t understand, do you? Are you so blinded by your own need for power and to be right that you can’t see another war with England will destroy you? He’s- Damnit, you’re hurting him by being so selfish! America, you’re my brother, and I can’t just sit back and watch you destroy yourself and him. Look me in the eye, and tell me that you won’t go to war with him... Please, Alfred.

  • You could never understand, America. You don’t know what it’s like to have to drag him from whatever bar he’s managed to get into while he mumbles about /you/, not me. To be a child and listen to him sing your praises while not even sparing me a single glance, to be an adult and still get the same damn treatment, despite being the son that helps him, despite being the only one out of the two of us that has looked after him! I’ll never be enough for him... But you? You were. You still are. You’ve always been England’s favourite. And that makes you so, so selfish. I can’t forgive you for that.
