BtothePower for England [Arthur Kirkland]
England is a power-hungry, sometimes cruel and manipulative, always grouchy and sharp, Empire, who loves nothing more than flaunting power and keeping his colonies in line. Power has gone to his head, and he is a lot more arrogant and cruel than shown in canon. Under this, however, he is terrified of being alone, and being 'just another little island' like he used to be, which is why he is so desperate to keep his Empire strong and powerful. He favors America a lot over his other colonies, however, as soon as he realizes he's lost control over him, tries to crack down harder on him. England struggles with alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with stress and America, and can often use strong language. He's yet to realize he's given up his friends and family for his Empire, though claims that his loneliness is natural, refusing to listen to France, who often tries to persuade him to go back to his old self. He is a sarcastic and cold man, who does care about his family, but pushes it all aside for glory. After he loses America, England spirals somewhat, avoiding his former colony and all those that helped him, both out of embarrassment and upset, as well as anger. He is oblivious to the problems he is causing his other colonies, and those round about him. Vindictive and easily jealous, the British Empire is not a nice man, not at first.
(Talking to self) How the brat got so insolent in the first place, I’ll never know. Was I too lenient on him? I knew I shouldn’t have played favorites with the boy, but I didn’t think it would lead to this. I never once thought... (To Canada) He didn’t tell you anything about his plans, did he, Canada? No, no, you’re obedient and grateful, unlike him! You would have told me sooner. It truly is a mystery as to how the two of you are related, the insolent, ungrateful little cockroach that he is!
I suppose you think you’re clever, do you? You won against the British Empire, turning me into the laughing stock of Europe upon my defeat, and now you want to make a mockery of me in my own home! I was in the middle of a business meeting, you little brat, so if you want to talk to me, you can wait until I’m bloody well finished. In case you hadn’t noticed, I’m in the middle of a war with France. You’re hardly my main concern.
France, I’m not sure you quite understand how Empires work. They work off money, power, colonies. Not friends. Whoever heard of an Empire who became powerful with friends? Perhaps that's why you're doing so abysmally as one. I have allies, and I have colonies, of which you, regrettably, are neither. So, no, I don’t require your help or companionship. I never have, and I never will.
