Ginga Densetsu Weed episode 1 and 2 English fan dub
Project Overview
Hello everyone and welcome to this casting call for the fanmade English dubbing of Ginga Densetsu Weed! Even though this is just for episode one and 2 for now, this is going to be an on going project. This will be the dubbing of this whole series in English. This anime is currently only subbed in English, and many people along with myself would love to hear it in English! So, if you are a fan of the show, and you would like to voice one of the characters, you are free to audition to join the team! Keep in mind however that this will be as professional as can be, and I want the best voice actors I can get that match both the characters, and also the emotion in each line. Sadly, this will not be a paid casting call, but I'll definitely give all of my VA's recommendations after they complete thier lines! There are 26 episodes.
This will be a faithful English dub, but will translate Japanese words like, 'tore-ge' to its English meaning, 'tiger striped,' because this is in English. Akakabuto is very hard to pronounce and is a terrible mouthful, so his name is translated to 'Crimson Helm.' Still a mouthful, but easy to say. Kaibutsu, may or may not be translated to 'Monster.' 'Battouga,' will be translated to, 'sword fang' and so on.(zetsu tenrou batouga = Sky wolf's sword fang) last on the list of changes, are names.. I know 'Gin,' will be called 'Silver,' but dont know if I'll change other names.
I want all Voice actors to watch the video (provided in the character lines section)at the time of the timestamps given at the beginning of each line to try to match the voice, emotion, tone, and inflection of the original as much as possible. I prefer for everyone to have dischord to collaborate, but if not, I can work with emails. Just 3 tries tops at each line, but audition with at least two takes at each one. If casted, you'll have to stick it out for the whole series, so only audition if you'll be dedicated long term. Mic doesnt have to be the best, but quality preferred. No background noise. Audition for as many characters as you like!

Moving on to episode 2
This casting call was originally only for episode one, but since it is almost done except for 2 voices I have added more characters on! I believe that this is the best progress that has ever been made on trying to dub this show... For free at least. I think there was a previous failed attempt by an actual company who deleted everything when they went under. Anyways, There are 4 more characters besides those added on in episode 2 that I'm going to include in this. These are 3 characters that I really want just perfect voices for. Those would be Kyoshiro, Jerome, (his previous VA stopped communicating with me) John, and Gin. Hoping to start looking for these voices early in case it takes a long time to find the right ones.

GB Is a former pet dog who has ran into bad luck ever since his owner died. Since then he has narrowly avoided death by getting run over by a car, and then ended ump becoming a slave to Nero, a boss dog who runs his pack without mercy, and always threatens to kill GB if he does not get him what he wants. Throughout this episode, GB struggles with trying to comply with his boss's demands, while struggling with his sense of Justice. Later on he learns to be more of a real dog rather than a coward, but he always keeps his sense of silliness, lol. He becomes Weed's godfather after the death of his mother, and he is very loyal to weed, but the one he respects the most is Smith who saved his life and lost his leg in the process. GB is not the best fighter, but he is a good runner and hunter, and can catch birds right out of the air. He also has trouble keeping Weed out of trouble, and the also worries that Weed is too soft to his enemies, but he always obeys in the end and never rebels. Over all, he is inspired by Weed to become a better dog.
He needs a Very expressive voice. He expresses nearly everything to the extreme and some way. When he is scared he make silly noises and yells, and when he is angry he can sound serious but yet dorky at the same time… he hardly ever sounds cool lol. He can sound serious when he is focusing though And there is a saying in this episode where he is contemplating his actions, while Weed is fighting the guard dog and he is running away. There are many scenes also that he is crying so the voice Actor needs to be able to cry as well and sound like they're fighting back tears when they're speaking. Over all he needs to sound like a coward who found his courage, and also a little dorky in an adorable quirky way, lol :)
Line 1) (Timestamp: 0:00-0:34) "Almost within range... just a little more. That's it... that's it...!" (Weed jumps out and scares the birds) "Waaaah!? That idiot... what is he doing?" (Sees a bird flying by and catches it saying,) "Dang!" (Looks at Weed) "What are you doing brat? This is my kill! "
Line 2)(timestamp: 2:38-3:05) (GB gets thrown against a tree. Make a sound like he got hurt that way.) "I'm sorry..."(Nero saying he will kill him if he doesn't bring back bird meat) "But I can't get any..."(Nero tells him about the ducks) "But... if a human sees me getting them-"(he is cut off by Nero's threats)"Alright..."
Line 3) (timestamp: 3:11-3:34) "This must be it. There doesn't seem fo be anyone around. (Shocked expresion, then a panicking sound) "There's a guard dog!" (Guard dog sees him and asks what he wants) "Ahh... nothing. Im just a dog playing by... please excuse me! (Nervous laughter as he runs)
Line 4) (timestamp: 5:45- 6:23 )"you should just stop it..." (he stops running) "What sympathy be has...I abandoned my friend...I just ran away. That beat is risking his life for him...and I just kept running!? I've been a slave my whole life... when will I change..!?(he hears the scream) "What happened!?"
Line 5) (timestamp: 6:30- 6:55)( GB gasps as he sees the guard dog choking Weed) "You dirty... HOW DARE YOU! You coward! A fighting dog like you has to pick on a pup!? Fight me!!"( He attacks the guard dog who comments on him being a coward) "Shut up! From today, I'm something else! "
Line 6) (timestamp: 8:07-8-20)" Wait a minute. that. the story of Gin, the boss dog of Ohu... it's not just a story!? He's real?(Smith answers yes) " Then he's…"

Smith was one of the original characters of the 1st anime, GNG. He was Gin's friend, and he was mostly for comic relief back then, but since has changed into one of those very cool old soldier characters who everybody is scared crapless of in this anime. He was tasked with keeping soccer a safe and escorting are out of the territory after the monster attacked it, but he got distracted when he saw GB almost get hit by a car and then lost his leg saving him, Also losing sight of Sakura in the process. After they got separated, Sakura gave birth to Weed alone and developed a disease soon after. Upon finally seeing her in this condition Smith cried bitter tears. And promised that he would take weed to his father, the leader of Ohu. After her death, Smith was going to keep to his promise to protect Weed and bring him there, and he set out on the journey with him. He is greatly respected by everybody and especially GB, whose life he saved.
As far is the Type of voice that is needed for this character, the closest English voice that I have seen as the English voice for That's 3rd Hokage in Naruto. He sounds similar to what I imagine an English sounding Smith could sound like, but tweaked a little bit. VA needs to sound old, battle worn, and cool! The character dies in episode 5 or 6 but dies return in the last episode as a spirit helping the main character to defeat the bad guy. Anyone voicing this character must be dedicated to voice in the character and every episode that he is in.

Line1: [1:46] (Smith sees the pups failing at fishing and he is laughing. (make the laughing noise) It is a light hearted laugh and not teasing them. Then he says while still in good humor and grinning through it )
"It's useless! If you do it that way the fish will escape easily!"
Line 2 [2:05]( The soldier is telling the kids that they could not live in the area if Smith did not defend it long ago. Smith responds at 1st sounding a bit annoyed while still trailing off in his mind remember in hard times, saying,)
" Why do you speak of the old times?"
( He then turns to the pups and more cheerfully says)
" Well, Watch how I do it."
Line 3 [16:19]( Smith sees Weed use the sword fang(battouga in english) And he is astonished and curious. The whole line is quite dramatic but in a quiet, yet bold tone, not with a raised voice.)
" That attack… the sword fang! Why did that kid use the leader's attack?"
Line 4 [17:13] ( He approaches Weed, as he has fallen unconscious after the battle and wakes him up. Eager to get answers)
" Pull yourself together kid. Where did you learn that attack?"
( A realization that he could be the leaders kid struck him and he is more energetic with this question, yet still trying to stay calm)
" Boy, could it be that your mother's name is Sakura?" (Weed nods and Smith is shocked and thinks,)
"I knew it! This is the leader's kid!"
(Then urgently says)
"Sakura! Where is she!"
Line 5 [18:55]( The hardest line! So emotional! ( Smith sees Sakura close to death and he is filled with grief. He cries out in agony and regret (and his voice cracks, strains and hisses as if a smoker's voice)
"SORRY!!! Sakura, I'm so sory!"
( After the line he cries a bit and chokes a bit, gritting his teeth trying to hold the tears back. There is a little voice in the beginning but fades out to sniffles, then silence within the limit of 2 1/2 seconds.)

Nothing too much about this character. Just a guard dog. Big and mean sounding, And he is a fighting breed so make him sound big and tough. Like all of the other voices I want to try and get him is similar to the original as possible. He is only there for episode one.
Line 1 [9:22]( He wakes up from a nap and notices another dog on the edge of his territory. Wary and annoyed, but calm As he threateningly asks)
" What do you want?"
Line 2 [11:29 and 12:12]( He sees a dog intruding on his territory and he smiles while growling (make the growling sound.) Then after he creeps up on him, he attacks the other dog.(make a sound like you are lunging for an opponent. Then he Yells)
"What the heck do you think you're doing!?"
[12:25]( he continues to growl while biting, but Upon seeing the other dog's friend abandoning him, he teases him while still biting down.(sounds like mouth is full))
"Abandoned you huh? Hehehe..."
Line 3 (make noises like you are growling and biting the enemy. Imitate the original.)
Line 4 [13:25](Weed is trying to free Sasuke, and though The guard dog is Easily pushing him away come on he is getting very annoyed.)
"Shut up brat! Be quiet and wait your turn!"
[14:00](And before he bites Weed at the height of his annoyance at a later part)
"Dang kid, you're really starting to tick me off!"
Line 5 [16:15](screaming, almost shrieking, in pain and anger after his ear is torn off)
"AAAHHHH! WHAT THE!? AAAHHH! OH CRAP! THAT HURTS!"
[16:30](Still shaking, but only stable bold raised voice)
"You dang mutts! What have you done to my ear!? None of you will make it out of here alive!"
Line 6 ( The guard dog hesitates as he senses something, And hesitantly stammers.)
"What?..what is this?... this intense thirst for blood?"
( He see Smith and is instantly terrified, running into his doghouse and while shaking In fear, says,)
"I-I wasn't going to hurt any of your friends..."

Hook was once a slave of Blue and his gang along with his older brother who was killed as a puppy by Blue when he refused to be a slave of his anymore. Soon after that event foot got caught by humans and taken to an animal shelter where he was adopted. He never forgot what happened to his brother and was scared to leave his yard since then. After meeting The main character however, he got his courage back and went to take revenge against his brother's killer. Blue got run over by a car in the end. Hook was planning to take care of mail but Mel wanted to go with weed and learn to be strong like him. The next time he shows up is an episode 6 where he is seen being ambushed by Nero's gang. He is rescued by Gin, to whom Hook relays the story of Weed's birth, Sakura's death, and Weed's journey to find him. Gin thanks Hook for the news and departs. Later on, hook gets to return the favor by infiltrating Hougen's ranks as a spy and an 'inside dog,' eventually helping to free all of the prisoners that were with Gin, but unfortunately Gin himself had to stay behind due to his injuries. Other than these times, Hook is only seen in small scenes in passing.
Hook as a young adult dog with a strong voice. The majority of his emotion is remembering bad times, sadness, and anger, but he also needs to be able to display a range of happy emotions as well.

Line 1 [6:05] ( He is warning Weed and the others to not interfere with Mel. He sounds sad, but matter of fact as he states)
Mel is too afraid to leave those dogs. To do so would mean death for him. Once that puppy outlives his usefulness, he'll simply be killed."
Line 2 [6:23] (GB questions why he knows so much about Blue and his gang. He answers, recalling a tragic past. His voice breaks only at the last when he speaks of his brother's death.)
"I'm Hook. I am not a pet dog by nature. 2 years ago, my older brother and I were also forced into being slaves for those dogs. We were young slaves, and they were nice to us at first, so we trusted them. Countless times we stole food for them... I ended up being caught by a human and taken to the pound. Luckily, I was adopted by my master. But... just before that, my brother had rebelled against Blue's ways..." (he tears up)"He killed him."
Line 3 [15:43] (Hook confronting Blue. He is shuddering with anger at him as he almost growls)
"Dont tell me you've forgotten me, Blue... Even if you have forgotten me, I sure haven't forgotten you..." (he lunges at him and yells) "My brother's killer!"
Line 4 [16:53] ( Hook runs beside Weed, and happily thanks him. Still running so make it sound like he's doing so, but not overdoing it.)
"Weed, thank you. Thank you so much!"
(Weed asked why he is thanking him and Hook answers)
"You gave me my courage back! You sent my will power back to me. You helped me find my feet again!"

Blue is a tyrannical leader of a pack of dogs that captures puppies to put them to work as slaves for them. While Nero is almost always sounding like he is angry, Blue seems to have a more laid back and sing-songy tone most of the time untill he is attacking. Not only does Blue enslave these puppies, but he is not against killing them either, as he killed Hook's brother when they were pups. Oddly enough, when Weed tries to save him he actually has a change of heart, (too late though, because he dies right after) and throws Weed back over the fence to save him. This event could be very important in the show even though he only shows up in this one episode, because I believe that this early experience spurred on Weed's strong belief that if you were kind to your enemies eventually they will have a change of heart and can be saved.

Line 1 [11:09-31] (Blue sees GB coming to help Weed, and is amused as he shouts across the distance) "And who are you!?" (GB says he is a Commander of Ohu, and Blue starts laughing like he just heard a good joke(make the laugh) then, still sounding like he's smiling, says,) "What a pathetic liar you are! The paradise for dogs in Ohu was destroyed!" (GB says that it a rumor so he says more seriously, though still amused.) "It's not a lie. The dogs there started attacking humans, so they shot every one of them."
Line 2 [8:15- 43] (Mel brings the stolen food and calls to Blue. Blue says in a slow serious, yet almost bored sing-songy way,) "You're slow Mel." (His lackeys are impressed that Mel could actually get the food. He says in a smug, and lazy, 'I told you so' way,) "You see? I told you he could do it. Now, you see how easy it is?" (Mel complains about being chased by a human, and Blue is still smiling, but gets a bit more serious) "Yet you were able to get it and get away. You'll do it again tomorrow. "
Line 3 [8:46-9:01] (Blue is eating, so try to make some eating noises. He cheerfully says) "Ahh! It's a new one! It's lamb flavor... It's so good!" (When he finishes, he says in a more 'oh, whatever' type of attitude, yet still sounding smug) "Alright, you lot can eat."
Line 4. [9:30 - 38] (Blue is attacking Mel, and the laughing smiling attitude is replaced with an angry threatening one as he threatens Ned who tries to stop him) "Ned, dont interfere, I'll kill this brat!" (Then Mel apologizes, and Blue growls) "What!? I can't hear you!" (Emphasis on raising voice at the end like he is slamming him down again.)
Line 5 [18:26 - 55] (Blue is amused that everyone is trying to get to him, but a fence separates them, so he teasingly, while almost laughing says) "I want to stay here and watch you act stupid as you try to get over that fence... heh, but I must bid you farewell. "(Still smiling but a bit more calm and serious) "Yesterday, a message came from Nero in the northern alps. I think you will know of him. He sure does go into a frenzy when he is mad. Well, I've got to go contact Nero. See you later! (Blue laughs at them as he walks away.)
Line 6 [20:3 - 18] (Blue is dying after saving Weed and getting hit by a semi truck. Weed asked him why he saved him. Blue struggles to speak, though he still tries to smile through it) "Why.. huh?... Nobody has ever shown me kindness like this before... I wish I had met someone like you.. alot sooner... (dying breath)

Kyoshiro Is a dog about one year old who is leading a pack of young dogs who similarly to himself have been mistreated by their parents. It is not shared in the anime what happened in his past, but in the monga it shows that his father got abusive of his mother and his brothers, and his brothers all died after charging their father of a cliff and falling off with him. His mother died as well that I forgot how. After that he began helping out other young dogs who have been abused by their parents, and made a huge pack out of such dogs. He views himself as a father to them and they in turn view him as a father as well. He actually tries to instill good morals in to these dogs even though he is Rough around the edges. He does have a good sense of Justice even though he seems a bit harsh compared to weed. Weed sees his sense of Justice and wants him to join the pack after meeting him. They clashed initially because of his harsh treatment of his enemies, and distrust of Weed's adult pack mates but eventually does end up joining after seeing how Weed's compassion healed the relationship between Terru and his father before the latter died.
His personality is brash and explosive at times, yet also cool and collected at others. He does have some times where he is emotional though but they are few and far between. After tricking his own followers into believing he was a trader and they attacked him come up in a moment of severe pride in how they turned out to become real dogs without him noticing it he almost cries. Other than that he has mainly 2 moods, Angry and yelling or growling, Or simply trying to sound cool and calm, If not a bit aloof.(almost as if he is yawning a bit through his speech, lol.)

[Line 1] 0:29 (Kyoshiro sees a dog abusing his pup, not believing he didnt steal his food) "Why dont you believe him? Isn't he your son?"
[Line 2] 0:52 (Kyoshoro catches and is punishing that guy while he begs for his life) "No! There's no way I can let a guy like you live! I'll give you what you deserve!" (He really yells in the last sentence)
[Line 3] starts at around 1:15
(Weed pushes kyoshoro away) (looking up angrily with a bit of a growl then he regains his composure and calmly says,) "Who are you?" (Looks around and non-chalantly asks,) "Where did you all come from?" (They say he is outnumbered and he calmly and coolly replies) when I get angry, I tend not to care about anything else that's in my way."

(Annoyed at Weed) "kid, dont go nosing into other people's buisiness when you dont knew what's going on. It seems you need to learn what happens when you intrude. Watch!" (Shouts three loud howls)
[Line 5] (his subordinates are saying They will kill the Pup's father And Kyoshiro yells out angrily,) "Who are you going to kill!? Dont go any farther than you need to!" (Turns back to Weed and comments on them) "They're all only a year old but it's as if they have lived for 5 or 6 years. None of us have ever felt the love of a parent!"
[Line 6] around 4:10
(Kyoshiro calls Teru over and is softer toned when reassuring him) "kid, come over here. Dont worry, we have your father restrained." (The father begs his son to help and Kyoshiro yells) "Shut up! Why now!? You're only saying that because you're in trouble!" (He turns and explains to Weed) " This guy's father thought he was stealing food from him, so he started beating him. That's why I went to the extent of cutting one of his ears off. He did something a father shouldnt do.. He did something an adult shouldnt do! (Turns to Terru) "Well, Terru? Do you still think of him as your father?"

Kagetora

Kagetora is a fighter through and through. Reminiscent of his father, Kurotora, one of the three legendary kai brothers, said to be worth a whole army between the three of them. His uncle, Akatora, died taking out Akakabuto's (Red Helm's) eye out, and Kagetora is inspired by him, as his father passed the tale down to his sons and nephews. In the final fight against the monster, Kagetora recalls this tale to inform the beast of the kai dog's warrior spirit.

Tereu is a puppy who is abused by his father until he is found by KYoshiro who saved him from the abuse. After this, he denounced his father and strongly looked up to Kyoshiro who saved him. At 1st he is consumed by anger for his father and only once him dead, but he later shows that for his young age he has a tremendous sense of Justice and is even willing to die for the one who saved him so that other puppies such as themself would not have to live in fear and could live at peace. Kyoshiro then admitted he was a real dog, when before he was correcting him because of his anger. (A very high praise considering that he only noted that many older soldier age dogs in his own pack had just become real dogs in a far later episode) A very loyal dog especially for his age, he is also later seen wanting to fight with the other soldiers when they were trying to get rid of the young puppies to keep them safe saying that he would die an honorable death and not get in the way. In the manga, he becomes a ninja dog when he grows older, but in the anime it does not show this. In the end of episode 11 or 12 his father dies and he forgives him as he passes away. This is also the event that convinces Kyoshiro that Weed's way of doing things is better than his own and he joins up with his group with Weed as the leader. He saw that Weed's compassion had done more than rescue Teru, but allowed him to also forgive his father rather than living his life in hatred against him.

"Dad! Don't die! Dad! You can't die! It's me, Teru! Do you understand!? Daddy, I don't want you to die!"

(Kyoshiro has his followers take Teru away. He is surprised and confused as he complains)
"W-why?.. no, I wanna see!"
(They drag him off and complaining intensifies as he struggles to stay)
"No! I really wanna see! No! Let me go!"
Line 5 [8:30]
(Kyoshiro just told Teru to stay with him instead of chasing down those who attacked one of his packmates. Ashamed, he drops his head saying:)
"please... dont treat me like a kid."
(after Kyoshiro talks to him about being a real dog, he smiles and laughs a bit, after being encouraged. (Make the expression) and says)
"Yeah! I want to become a real dog like you, leader!"
(then he laughs as he slides down a snow pile)
line 6 [10:30]
(Teru is being used as a hostage, and Kyoshiro tells his captors that Teru would gladly die for him. He asks Teru to confirm that fact to them. Teru is terrified, and on the verge of tears as he replies)
"Y-yes.. leader...
(they tug at him and threaten him and he strains out in a passionate yell)
"I'm a fighter! I'll die as a real soldier should!"
(They are all shocked as he continues to make his speech)
"Kyoshiro.. I'll give up my own life to be bigger than these cowards! So that one day for sure, kids like me can live in peace and comfort! Make sure that peaceful earth can exist!"

Tokimune Is the double for Silver as the leader when he is on his trips. He is one of the best kept secrets of the dog paradise as well as the doubles for Akame and John as well. All of the other dogs think that he is Silver, even though he is not. Because of this, Weed thinks that he is his father when he finally makes it to Ohu. After being shot by humans, he is weakened and can no longer defend the territory as he had before, and told Weed to leave without being able to explain everything, and right after that, he died protecting him. He is only shown in this episode which is the 3rd episode, but it left a big impact on all of the other dogs who were inspired by his humility and loyalty to live out his life is nothing but a substitute and be misunderstood. And miss understood he was as many of the soldiers hated him because they did not know he was fighting the monster the whole time and did not want their lives to be wasted so he would not let them fight. But all they saw was a leader who did nothing, and he was able to bear the hatred of his troops and defend the land alone to protect everybody.

Line 1 [9:18]
(The soldiers are begging to help fight against the monster. )
"Don't come over here. Now is not the time. "
Line 2 [12:43]
(Weed finds him and is staring at him, thinking that he is his father, and amazed that they are both tiger striped. Finally, Tokimune breaks the silence, curious, but slightly annoyed.)
"Well? Who are you?"
(Weed tells him the sory of how he was sent tho find his father and it is obvious he thinks it is him, and he tried tho interrupt him)
"Wait-!"
(Then cringes in pain. Seeing as he wouldn't have much time to explain, he says to him through the pain)
"Don't come here! I don't have a son! This is that monster's territory. You'll be killed unless you get ot off here!"
Line 3 [13:35]
(Weed tries to follow him)
"I don't know you! Hurry up and go!"
(As Weed keeps insisting, he hears something and tells him)
"Shut up! Something's wrong...
(sees the monster in the bushes and yells)
"Run Weed! Behind you!"
line 4 [14:00]
(Tokimune let's out an expression of pain after being slashed by the monster. He struggles to even stand but still guards Weed)
"Hurry.. Escape.. he'll attack.. again."
(Weed freezes)
"Weed, run! What are you doing!? Hurry up and go!"
Line 5 [14:23]
(Weed is still frozen, and he thinks tho himself)
"This is bad... he's completely frozen. If I don't do something...
(The monster charges and Tokimune notices, and pushes Weed out of the way. (Make the expressions))
Line 6 [14:33]
(The monster bites his whole body in his jaws, and Tokimune yells (almost croaks) in pain(make that sound) then he yells,)
"Don't worry about me! Go!"
(The monster bites down and Tokimune makes expressions of agony before his last breath as he fails limp and dies. (Make those sounds) )
