Project Overview

THANK YOU so much for being interested in my new series, FLATBUSH 54! The following characters will be needed for the first two parts. There are a total of six parts planned with more characters so please audition or send a demo reel even if you don't see a fit!

PLOT
FLATBUSH 54 answers the question, “what if superheroes were artificially created?”
This story follows January, a human hybrid who has been cybernetically enhanced with the ability to hear inaudible thoughts and travel through memories of others. Unaware of her own past and others like herself, she's been hid away indefinitely in the most refine of homemade protection programs - a flat in Brooklyn. When there's (finally) a breaking point, January and her new band of enhanced-men (+ some weak but enthusiastic human friends who created the awful name) set out to reveal the memories and answers that have been lost.

Setting: Brooklyn, New York in Year 2054
*Almost every character has LGBTQ identity. While my series tends to have lightness in theme, this story will also cover topics such as class & race. There will be minor sexual themes/humor, as well as references to drugs and alcohol use. However, the series is planned to remain at a TV-14 Rating.*

CLEAR MICROPHONE: Please avoid static or background noise. Perfectly ok with high quality iphone/smartphone as long as there is NO wind, popping, background noise, etc.

Must be RESPONSIVE/DEDICATED. I am EXTREMELY flexible and understanding about your life. I normally give 3-4 week deadline, as well as any extension that's needed so long we are able to communicate. I’m always willing to work anything out - of course! I take time in between episodes instead of sending at once, be ready to be in it for the long run >:)
READ CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS THOROUGHLY: The ones that stand out are the ones who go past *reading* the lines. This includes showing a range of emotion, trying new things, etc. This is a comic book style series so please do not be afraid to lean into the genre! (If you ever have any questions about the character, story, lines, etc. please don’t be afraid to contact me - I’m friendly and love questions I promise!)
Must be COMFORTABLE with swearing and the SUBJECT MATTERS mentioned earlier, as well as providing additional non-dialogue voices (series will not be explicit but given the superhero genre, will need grunts, oofs, yells, hits, etc. Be prepared with space for loud takes, action underscoring is epic but it’s also loud!)
HAVE FUN! I heavily encourage my voice actors to improvise, it really brings the characters to life:) My voice descriptions are just suggestions and if you have any ideas (ridiculous or not), as long as you give at least one or two takes of the original line, feel free to go off script or try a completely different voice! I LOVE IT!

FIRST APPEARANCE: VOLUME I
ABILITIES: Hearing other's internal thoughts out loud & traveling through their memories

INFO: Our main hero and protagonist. January (Ree to family & friends) has been in a programmed protection along with two other enhanced-human projects for the past 10 years. Joined by who she can assume are her siblings (Ebony and Delson_, they remain completely unaware of any memories that would indicate a past human life. Obsessing over the cool human shit like a mermaid, she discovered a deep obsession with music - and not the bot-created garbage that exclusively plays on the radio now, but the hits from the 2020's. Her brain has been amplified to pick up and interact with the silent thoughts of somebody standing nearby - which is ironic because she leads with her heart way before leading with her head. Is extremely hesitant to use explore the full capability of her powers but unlike her older sister Ebony, it's not because of fear. The precarious activity of interfering with brain waves invites dangerous and often painful repercussions. However. this won't stop her from trying to live the mundane life of a financially struggling post graduate in a city as expensive as New York in 2054. If that wasn't human enough, she has also recently found herself in a previously unexplored territory - dating.

Not to mention things start getting a little fucked up when you know you have access all the unwelcome thoughts of the world - I mean so long as they're right in front of you" (awkward pause; noticing girlfriend literally right in front of her) "Should I not have answered that? I don't go out much"
(breaking point) "Jesus- ENOUGH! Can't you see what's happening? The ripples, the stutters in the air's movement, all of that because of ME. Reality, time, all that bullshit you talked about - it's breaking down in front of us. You and I both know there's only one person who's going to be able to figure out how to reverse it when the time comes. The LAST thing I'm gonna do is continue watch these government bots and fan theorists get more innocent people killed. I may have silently watched you lie to yourself for years, but I am done with asking for permission. You want this to end? Stop me yourself."

INFO: Hunts and returns the other lost cybernetic-human projects for ensured safety and ongoing allowances in return. Could also be known as the futuristic version of a skip tracer. Any human would be drawn to the irony of Haven's somewhat cold mind radiating so much body heat - which I get because it's a very attractive trait to have, but extremely deadly to touch. This has made the whole "friend and family" thing extremely difficult. Has been surviving alongside with just themselves since day 0 and plans to keep it that way. Tries their absolute best to appear impersonal but even somebody as legitimately inhuman as Haven can't avoid the most basic humane experience: emotion.

"You're obviously new to me" (cocky; slightly agitated) "Look, you can come with, stay here, waste time tracking me - I really don't care. But I'm not staying...(small laugh) and I think we can both agree there's nobody here who can make me."
CONTEXT: After being told they need to stay put/in hiding - that'll never work for Haven
"We can have this conversation a thousand times but it does not change the fact that this won't work. Can't you see that. You have everything- what would you get out of this.... This morning - you made a new friend by the time that finished bagging your groceries - do you EVER see me doing something like that?. Have you ever asked youself why you even want to be with me in the first place?!
I can't..I'm done. Whatever pathetic garbage this is- it's just stupid. Nobody wants ANY of this with a fucking weapon... so this needs-... I need you to go - please don't make me force you to." (yelling) "Are you not listening?? I said leave!"

INFO: A smile that could light up a room - literally. If Delson had childhood memories, they'd probably include interrupting baseball games to make sandcastles & performing in grade school talent shows. Unlike his siblings Ebony and January, Del has little to no interest in being known as a human. Will take any opportunity to perform street art and tricks for tips - but mostly gets off on the attention. Not into the idea of long term friends, but loves a night out. Lead coping mechanism is sarcastic humor and personal favorite pastime is flirting with male humans - his contagious laughter makes him a winner at both.

(aside doing something else) I get that you're excited, I love that for you but I'm just not head over heels obsessed with your girlfriend - whatever you're calling it. I'm calling it pisces intuition or whatever, and it's messy. I'm pretty sure that's the sign I went with.
"You're not telling me something...don't-... no... (annoyed) Did you invite Rafe? You invited Rafe and then lied to my face to get me to come?" (under breath) Y'all must be Trying to kill me- (to them) is it me? Was my energy not clear? Because not to sound dramatic but I would quite honestly rather hit my face on a another passing drone than have to spend five more minutes with him. Literally try! I need to see you attempt hearing that aggravating voice in your head 20 times."
(swooping under a robot unnoticed; laughing) "Over here bitch!" *hits*

INFO: If he had a birthday, his sun would 100% be in Virgo. Do not even bother inviting the guy if a plan is not involved. His cute face and charismatic grin spark a friendship between him and January, but his methodical TYPE A nature develops an immediate tense relationship with her brother Delson. Has impeccable timing and is INCREDIBLE with human adults, though cannot shake the feeling that he feels like a walking science project. Has been on an ongoing search for a couple years after his brother from his adopted human family went missing. Though the two brother's relationship has never been....cordial, he would do basically any little thing to restore anything close to the time in his life where he had a full family - even if that includes bringing him home by force.

"I don't know how long you're planning on staying mad at me for no reason and to be quite honest I don't really care. You can take as long as you need. Don't say I didn't try." (turning away; but not without one last word) "I've had to deal with my brat little brother for years - I'm not dealing with it here. Grow the fuck up."

INFO: Having the power of flight would just be so epic and actually incredibly useful.....if she wasn't so afraid of heights. At this point has been convincing herself she's fully human for so long, the levitation & extreme endurance is just another thing to be dealing with. The first of the three siblings to fall in love with another human - and luckily a family as selfless as Cyrus and Brinleigh. Plays "bad guy" in the family but if that's the price to pay for keeping everybody safe, so be it. Extremely quick witted, which frustrates the absolute hell out of January when they get in any sort of disagreement - which is quite often.

Quite honestly it's more for me. I couldn't take Cyrus away from that computer with the force of a 12 wheeler and if Del comes at me with one more fight or flight joke, I may lose it."
(anxious; pacing) "Please you know how I get with visitors - and not just any visitor, but Your AUNT. Your HUMAN aunt with HUMAN eyes on this apartment. (convincing herself) But imagine if I wasn't as calm as I am right now."
(boiling point; desperate for understanding) "All I can imagine is something happening to you, and not only am I unable to stop it, but there's the alternative we never talk about.....What if I'm the reason? I'm so scared of hurting you, I-.....If I lose control again- no. I refuse. I'm sorry. I am done having this same conversation with you. None of this is up for discussion"

INFO: At this point, longtime partner of Ebony. Has unapologetically spent the past few years (as well as all of his savings) keeping her and her siblings safe in hiding. Works for the original Alersoft Industries, a tech marketing company responsible for starting the influx of holographic advertisements (or "adgrams"). Overworks so much it almost appears like a health concern, despite the fact he hasn't been promoted once in 10 years. Doubles as both an older brother and somewhat father figure for January despite her constant disagreement with his partner. While he barely survives disapproving looks from Ebony constantly for playing pushover with Ree, he found hypocrisy in being extremely protective of his little sister and only immediate family member by blood, Brinleigh.

"There's nothing to worry about. Tonight's going to be amazing because why wouldn't it be. You have the best laugh, the best God damn chicken parmesan I've ever had in my life - hell the apartment is so clean I just caught my reflection again. You know you're ready. (trying to be cute for her; playing) Also, it just helps that I love you quite a bit. Everything else, we'll handle one step at a time okay - we always have. Did I mention that I love you?"
CONTEXT: First time Ebony is meeting anybody from Cyrus' extended family.
"But you didn't do anything! This didn't happen because of you - it was because of me!" (pause; realizing what he said) "This is all my fault I-fuck. I...I am so sorry."

INFO: Was one of January's main introductions and teacher into human life. Joins in on January's indifference towards Ebony because of the relationship with her brother Cyrus. Is the only other human (we're aware of) that knows about the capabilities of Ree and her siblings. Wears the badge of Ree's friendship proudly but also has a soft spot for her adventurous brother Delson.

(laughing; teasing full of love) "You paid for that engagement ring with the yeast infection *ad-gram you programed above Bleeker Street. Romantic is maybe the last word I would use to describe your 'relationship'."

INFO: An excellent and skilled shapeshifter. Was able to escape the wreckage of a freak accident but suffered severe trauma to the face and jaw. Just so happens to be the only known human created involved in the human cybernetics project that has any sort of recollection of their past. Once Emery is discovered and presented to January, she becomes obsessed in finding them.

INFO: Any second not spent managing the record store is spent interacting with his fans from professional VR gaming out of his bedroom (but it's no big deal - seriously!). Much better at being January's best friend than playing the role of her boss which makes for a very unorganized working environment. The water sign in their epic circle of friends (it's just January and Brinleigh). Will gaze at and gawk over a cute boy on the internet before ever trying to flirt with one in real life. With the mixture of his comic book obsessed subreddit rants and his incapability to keep a secret, January has kept Omar away from any discovery of her powers.

"Just promise me you'll let me redeem myself? Here, how about a proposition...You let me tag along tonight, and I'll respond to Delson in full sentences this time. (panicking; holding a real weapon instead of a comfortable virtual one) "You want me to do what with this?! You must be- NO. This is exactly why I stay home - what am I supposed to do, whack the thing with it?! STOP LOOKING AT ME!!"
(trying to hack into computer; finding something) Oh shit! (laughing) Sorry everything is fine - more than fine. It's just incredible - whoever we're working with was JUST enough of a dumbass. Christmas morning has nothing on all these open ports. (giddy; looks to Ree like she knows what he's talking about) "Just gimme say...like 10 minutes to break through some firewalls and that baby is all yours"

INFO: Plays the role of the label-less (1st) girlfriend who has been dating January casually for the last 6 months. Was drawn to and always loved how Ree breathes in her life, living every day just...excited to be living. As you can already tell, the whole inhuman and cybernetic powers thing hasn't come up casually yet. However if she were to find out, would roll her eyes at the "damsel in distress" trope. Even in the most tense and terrifying situations, she will not even hesitate for a second to keep her role as the one in control of the situation.

" (pause) "I have the best laughs of my life when I'm with you, we can't be away from each other for weeks and then suddenly I'm looking at an "on my way" text for hours and you'll go missing for DAYS. Nobody deserves... I don't deserve that. But (small laugh) "But here I am.....embarrassing myself because I like you too much." (a moment; courage) "I was so scared to ask but...if not that. Just- whats happening? There's something you're not telling me. Whatever it is... I'll be fine- I promise"
(trying/failing to appear cool) Y'know I had an uncle that was approached by a few of those cybernetic surgeons after his work accident. Okay No he would never do the trials but maybe a girlfriend that's also a robot is just what was next for me. Am I saying that right- like is the word robot ok?
(quietly hiding from intruder; on the phone) You won this time. I can't believe I'm saying this but desperate times - Ree. You're in charge - don't get used to it too much. Now please just give word and I'll make a break for it.

INFO: Was apart of the adopted family that took in Rafe, though the similarities in their faces and skill could convince anybody they're related by real blood. particularly the part where he uses his powers on useless garbage - nothing interesting. Completely ghosted his family after graduating high school, nobody knows what antics he's up to but very unlikely he's just working at a Trader Joes.

I will say. I do have to admit in some way this has been quite nice. I got so sick of seeing your face but I've never seen that one...never seen it. Speechless? Rafe?....that never fucking happens.

INFO: If you were to ask her, she'd probaby refer to herself as one of Ree's best friends. Much ,ore of a friendly enemy and annoyance to January and her friends at the record store. Has one beanie for every five used vape cartridges waiting in the sound booth to be thrown out. Hosts a show at the record store almost all mf day due to her rich father being the owner of the building. Fully believes she is making a difference in the world, even if her main audience is the 2054 equivalent to fourteen year olds on stan twitter. This podcast quickly turns from a small community of vintage music nerds, to the main hotspot & news source for the (pretty much) war of cybernetics happening outside.

(pause; beat change) "I guess If my listeners can do anything, it's take this as your first call to action. Offer what you can to who you can: a ride, a couch, shit-anything at this point.
