Barret Wallace is a playable character in Final Fantasy VII, and a recurring character in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. He leads the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE, trying to prevent Shinra Electric Power Company from using Mako, the planet of Gaia's life source, as a form of energy.

Barret fights passionately for his cause and cares greatly for his allies. His seemingly benevolent cause of fighting for the Planet is a cover for his personal vendetta and anger, which he later must come to terms with. Despite his brash and sometimes violent attitude, Barret has a good heart, and is torn between fighting and caring for his daughter, Marlene.

Barret wields gun-arm, mechanical guns grafted in place of his right arm, allowing him to fire from range. His Limit Break abilities largely consist of physical attacks with these weapons.

Tifa Lockhart, alternatively known with the last name Lockheart, is a playable character in Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy VII Remake, and the deuteragonist of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. She also plays a supportive role in Dirge of Cerberus -Final Fantasy VII- and Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-. She is Cloud Strife's childhood friend, and a member of Avalanche.

Tifa is Cloud's childhood friend from Nibelheim, but lost contact with him years ago. When she meets him again, she convinces him to join Avalanche, the resistance group she is a member of, to fight Shinra Electric Power Company, whom she bears hatred for due to the destruction of their hometown. She supports Cloud as his comrade and helps him and his allies fight Sephiroth. Tifa is emotionally shy and empathic, acting as a motherly figure towards her allies when providing encouragement and emotional support.

Tifa uses her martial arts moves in battle, equipping knuckles as her weapon. Her Limit abilities make use of her martial arts techniques further. In the original Final Fantasy VII, unlike other characters, her Limit Break abilities are not selected from a list, rather, each ability can be used consecutively if the slots land on the "Yeah!" reel for the ability.

Jessie is a young woman with brown eyes and medium-length brown hair tied into a ponytail. In Hoshi o Meguru Otome, it is mentioned she is about Aerith's age, and the Final Fantasy VII Remake Ultimania gives her age as 23. She wears a red headband, a blue shirt underneath a metal breastplate, metal pauldrons, brown gloves, knee-length green capris, and armored boots. Her appearance in Final Fantasy VII Remake stays true to her original design, but adds a black mail shirt to the ensemble and turns her shirt into a leotard with black trim and a zipper on her left shoulder.  

Jessie is the technical expert of Avalanche who builds bombs for raids on the mako reactors, following the plans of the original, more militant Avalanche. Despite being the technical expert, Jessie is pained by insecurities, and is quick to blame herself if a mission goes awry.

She is vibrant and animated, and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, it is revealed her passion before joining Avalanche was acting. She abandoned her dream of becoming an actress when her father became ill, and blames the Shinra Electric Power Company for what happened to him, leading to her joining Avalanche. She is fearless when it comes to love, openly showing her feelings for Cloud and flirting with him. As a former aspiring actress, Jessie now uses her talents to hide her flaws and weaknesses behind smiles, trying to portray herself as strong in front of other Avalanche members. She only truly opens herself to Cloud.

Biggs is a lean young man with swept-back brown hair and a bandana tied round his forehead. He wears an olive shirt and green three-quarter trousers, brown boots with silver fasteners round the ankle, brown gloves, and two belts: one black and one brown, the latter of which has a pouch on his left hip. Biggs is considered the strategist of the group, acting as a calm contrast to Barret's intensity. Biggs can nonetheless be hotheaded and a bit of a complainer, griping about Barret's strictness as he dozes off on the train. He enjoys drinking, as he is ecstatic over the refreshments Tifa provides for the rest of Avalanche upon their return from Mako Reactor 1, and invites Cloud to partake. Despite his confidence, Biggs is prone to overthinking, particularly when involving his allies, to the point of becoming stressed. He alleviates this by occupying himself with tasks such as cleaning. In Final Fantasy VII Remake it is revealed he enjoys teaching children, and used to be a teacher before joining Avalanche.

Wedge is self-described as "roly-poly," enjoying food. He has black hair held back with a red bandana, and wears a beige shirt, blue shorts, brown boots and shoulder pads, with a bandolier across his chest and grenades on the belt of his trousers.

While Wedge appears easygoing and thoughtful, he has self-esteem issues over his weight and ability to contribute in Avalanche. He conceals his worries by acting cheerful around others. He expresses concern for Cloud's emotional well-being, offering to help if Cloud ever needs somebody to talk to while believing Cloud's reasons for helping them are more than just money. He loves Tifa's cooking, attributing his weight to its deliciousness. In Final Fantasy VII Remake Wedge cares for numerous cats. The slum dwellers talk about "someone in the neighborhood watch who is a real cat whisperer," and he once invites Cloud to visit him so he can meet all his cats. Barret later laments that Wedge really looks up to Cloud and wants to be friends with him, but is not good at expressing it with words.

Wedge is also an older brother; if spoken to just before jumping off the train on the way to the Mako Reactor 5 in the original game, he remarks that he looks like his younger brother in the disguise he is wearing.
