[Fandub] Violet Evergarden Episode 1
Project Overview
Project Information:
Hi everyone! My name is Suza and I am the Director for this Violet Evergarden Episode 1 fandub. This is a series revolving around a young war veteran, Violet Evergarden, who wakes up to find her arms have been removed and replaced with prosthetic metal limbs. Her life postwar becomes a search for her Major in the war, Gilbert, and a journey through Violet's broken past and her growth emotionally. We will be dubbing the first episode and depending on how that went, we may continue to dub more episodes!
I really like the anime and wanted to make something that would give praise to how beautiful and authentic it is. I will be playing the part of Violet Evergarden and am looking for people to join me on this project! I will be posting the finished video on social media sites and this would be a good opportunity to broaden your voice acting experience. This will not be a paid project, but I hope that if you decide to audition that you will be able to use this opportunity to network and refine your skillset!
Requirements:
- Please have a dedicated and clear microphone to record all lines. This is immensely important, as we want the cleanest version of your voice as possible. A bit of background noise is usually something I can remove, but it has to be manageable.
- Have a Discord account, in order to communicate directly with me and your fellow VAs. I will be posting the scripts on there and we will host live practice sessions for those who want it. Please register here: https://discordapp.com/ It's extremely easy to sign up, and you do not have to download the client. (Can be run through the web browser.
- Please have open communication. If for some reason you are unable to send your lines by the deadline, please let me know, so I can adjust accordingly! The most frustrating thing is having 0 communication and having to forcibly remove someone from the project. ): Just let me know!
Update 11/1:
Wow! Thank you guys for the auditions-- I received so many talented auditions, it was very hard to choose. I would like to mention that I have started casting characters and encourage you guys to go ahead and audition for the other roles, or stay tuned for Episode 2 (if we decide to dub the next episode, which depends on success of the first one.) If we decide to dub the 2nd episode and further episodes, I may reach out to those auditions that I feel are better suited for future roles, so you may see me in your Inbox one day!

Gilbert is a reserved, stoic and stern man who is stated to be incapable of loving anyone or being loved by someone else. He is a major in the Leidenschaftlich army and the only one who really valued Violet, seeing her as a human being rather than a tool. Being a soldier, Gilbert was required to suppress his sentiments and pleasures, so he feels like he isn't allowed to show his genuine emotions. He feels like he cannot say what he wants to; he didn't have the right to nor does he think that he deserves to. Because of that, he thought that his heart would be relieved if he earnestly put his thoughts into words. When he doesn't, however, feelings of guilt, regret, bitterness, frustration, anger, and sorrow would mix in his head.
[Kneeling in front of Violet, looking up to her, gently.]
"..Your name is Violet. You won't be a tool, but a person worthy of that name."[Speaking to Violet, exhausted and having a difficulty understanding why she is being so subservient. Struggling emotionally.]
"What are you talking about? Do you want my orders so badly? After this battle.. you can stop taking orders from me. Actually, you can stop taking orders from anyone. ..Live free. Why? ..Why do you want to take that as an order? Do you really think I see you as a tool? .. If I did, i would never have carried you out of there and taken you back home. I would never have kept you beside me all this while. You should know that I'm only feeling this anger and anguish because I want what's best for you."[On the battlefield, heavily injured and struggling to push out his words to Violet]
"Live.. and be free. From the bottom of my heart, I love you."
Lt. Colonel Hodgins/President Hodgins is a very warm, kind and considerate man, who doesn't judge people and gives them the opportunities they deserve. Sometimes cheerful, he is gentle and always tries to speak positively and make his surroundings warm. He is mature and follows his morals, traits he teaches to Violet. He is a former lieutenant-colonel of the army, but quit the military after the war ended and established the CH Postal Company where he serves as its president. He is tasked with watching over Violet, a task given to him by Gilbert. It is stated that the reason Hodgins was named Claudia (which is normally a girl's name) is that his parents thought that he would be born a girl. So even when he was born a boy, he was still named Claudia. Hodgins dislikes his given name and prefers to be called by his last name.
[Violet asks about Major Gilbert, Hodgins shows some strain, almost not wanting to give her the full honest truth.]
"..Don't worry, Violet. He's the one who asked me to come here for you."
[In car with Violet, after her being released from the hospital.]
"Violet, I bought you a gift. I didn't really know what you'd like, so I bought three. What do you think?"
[Violet declines.]
".. No! You have to choose one, so pretend that the world is about to end, okay?! Three, two--! .. Here. Why did you choose the puppy?"
[Lamenting over the tragedies committed during the war that he and Violet were a part of.]
".. You don't realize your body is on fire and burning up because of the things you've done. You'll understand one day and then, you'll realize for the first time, that you have many burns."
Tiffany is an elderly woman who, of her own volition, took in Violet after being contacted by Gilbert. She lost her son during the war. She is a very kind and considerate woman, as she excitedly agreed to take Violet in and warmly welcomed her to her home. She is also polite, well-mannered and lady-like. She can be rather honest and is not afraid to voice her opinions, but she is very caring and has strong parental instincts.
"Well, Violet, dear. Please, have a drink."
[Violet spills her tea.]
"(gasp) .. I'm sorry! Don't force yourself! Oh no! You'll get burned! Your bandages.. we have to cool them down quickly! Oliver, bring some ice!""Don't say that, dear.. I had a son, but he was killed in the war. "
He has known Hodgins since before the company's establishment and has had a brusque attitude towards him since he starting work there. Benedict is shown as a slightly short-tempered, uncouth, and stubborn young man, to which his attitude and speech come off as blunt and rude. He isn't very good with words or being respectful, especially when it comes to Hodgins. He has a tendency to face people head-on and has no problem telling people what to do. He also has no problems voicing his own thoughts, but since he is insensitive and oblivious to his surroundings, his words can sometimes offend people and come off as a little too straightforward. Despite that, he is kind and gentle at heart and is considerate of those he cares about. He can even be considered a bit chivalrous.
"Put your stuff in here. And here's your uniform, put it on."
[Violet starts changing in front of him.]
"W-WHAT, WAIT, HOLD ON!"
(lazily) "Yeah, what's up, President?"
(gets hit with a newspaper by Hodgkins) "So? What's up- OW, why'd you do that?!
(a bit uncomfortably) "So.. uh, you maybe wanna try.. delivering the mail? You deliver the mail to the address its written on. .. Anyway, I'm gonna go home now. See ya tomorrow."
Being a figurehead Auto Memories Doll who works for the CH Postal Company, Cattleya never stops being requested and often takes on clients with love troubles. Cattleya is a woman with intense and passionate emotions. Although she possesses great strength, she is very feminine can be quite sensitive, and is constantly worrying about her appeal towards Hodgins. She is a very talented Doll who is experienced in love, which is why she is usually put in charge of lovesick clients. She treasures the concept of love, be it romantic, fraternal, platonic, sibling, or companion.
[Helping a customer write a love letter, typing.]
"Even though we're apart.. 'I love you.' We'll end with that. What do you think? 'I love you.' Please stop by at the reception desk on the first floor, for delivery. Sir, all of us here at the Auto Memories Doll service want to thank you for coming in today."
[flirtatiously]
"Hey, then treat me to dinner, Claudia. Why..? Because you wanted a different girl? I can't believe you'd call out another girl's name in bed! That was terrible!"
(welcoming and introducing Violet to her co-workers)
"Right again! The girl just now.. Her name is Iris. She's a new hire who just completed her training course. And that's Erica. She and I have both been working as Dolls for a while. You'll meet the others soon. This company is still pretty young, so we're all kind of like rookies here."
The nurse helps wake Violet up in the hospital and is seen with her and Lt. Hodgins. She is peppy and wants Violet to recover well.
(happily) "Lieutenant Hodgins came all this way to pick you up, you know?"
One of the many CH Postal Worker.
(with some pep in her voice) "Alright sir, if I could please ask you to please write down the receiver's and sender's addresses on this form here."
(professionally) "And we ask that you allow at least up to 3 days for it to be delivered!"
A customer of the Auto Memories Doll service, looking to have a love letter written.
(country-like, nervous) "Y-yeah.. I don't know how to write. So.. I'd like you to write a letter for me."
(nervous) "Oh uh.. well, I heard that a childhood friend of mine recently received a marriage offer from another man. So.. I want you to tell her this!"
"Here is the tea, as requested, madame."
"Right away!" (fetching ice for Violet)
