Macross 7 Episode 1 Fandub

Macross 7 Episode 1 Fandub

Project Overview

Macross is, honestly, one of my favorite anime. Unfortunately, it can't really make it outside Japan (the only time it did was the catastrophe known as "Robotech") due to legal issues. Thus, no dub of anything outside the original series has been done. So, I figured, why not create a fan dub of the sequel; Macross 7?

I'm just going to clarify this right now, I've never attempted anything like this before. So, I'd appreciate any assistance with putting it together. Also, it's quite possible that I just can't do this and will have to cancel it. I certainly hope that won't be the case, but it's still a possibility.

Notes:

-For now, this is only a concept. As of this point, I do not intend to do anything more than episode 1. However, if it turns out well enough, I may go on to create a fan dub of all... forty-nine... episodes........ dear God that's alot...

-Don't bother auditioning for singing. I will just wind up using the already existing music like most of the professional dubs do.

-Must have a decent mic to be considered. If possible, use a program like audacity to remove background static, and do not add any special effects to the voice.  I'll do that myself.

-It is entirely possible that Harmony Gold will shut this down. They have shown in various instances that they will stretch their arm farther than they are supposed to to prevent anything Macross from being distributed or produced within the U.S. if it doesn't go through them first.

-It may seem like I'm overly picky about the voices.  That's because I am, and I'm entirely aware of it.  Thus, don't hesitate to audition if you don't think you'll make it.  I'm certain that I will be forced to compromise with most of the parts since Macross isn't that well known in the first place.  I apologize if I make anyone feel bad by talking like that.  It is not my intent to offend anyone.  I'm just a very picky person with impossibly high standards.

The infamous lead singer/lead guitarist of Fire Bomber, Basara is definitely the most headstrong and mysterious character of them all.  He absolutely despises violence, choosing instead to sing in an effort to cease hostilities.

This voice needs to convey a feeling of utmost confidence, nearly to the point of being arrogant.

  • Listen to my song!

  • Heheh.  You're all too excited already.  Our gig's only just begun!

  • I've been waiting for this moment!

One of the members on the bridge of the Battle 7.

Her voice tends to be more in the upper range.  She is very inexperienced and it shows in how she reacts to a battle that's gone south, as well as how flustered she gets when she makes a mistake.

  • Captain Max!  We've received an SOS from the advanced guard!

  • Captain, the mayor's on the hotline.

Maximillian Jenius is the Captain of the "Battle 7" Macross-class battleship, the head of the Macross 7 fleet's military, as well as the father of Mylene.

His voice needs to be deep.  He also has to give off the impression that he's got the weight of the world (or more likely his age) on his shoulders.

  • If I knew she was going to do this, I wouldn't have had her take piano lessons.

  • Get me a sitrep now!  I want all units to report in!

  • Don't take your eyes off that monitor!  Now, "shell-on" and "shell-down"!

(He is clearly angry as he says this line.)

One of the Protodeviln, he has taken control of a human body, albeit one that doesn't appear to be in the best health.

His voice needs to sound very gruff.  He also yells alot, so you need to be able to yell with that same gruff tone.

  • Purity 65.  Strong Spiritia.

  • What's going on?  The instruments are malfunctioning!

The former advisor to Britai during the war between humans and Zentraedi, Exsedol is now advisor to Captain Max aboard the Macross 7.  He remembers every single encounter he's been involved in with picture perfect memory.

His voice needs to sound relatively emotionless, while not sounding like a computer.

  • It's their first time, so you can't demand too much from them.

  • Is he trying to follow in the footsteps of Lynn Minmei?

A member of Diamond Force, he's a very reckless, yet skilled pilot.

His voice is very carefree, treating everything like it's a game.

  • Gamlin, this is our first dogfight!  Let's show 'em what we've got!

  • <Yelling in rage as he fires machine gun rounds into enemies>

The backup singer/bassist of Fire Bomber, Mylene can be cheerful while also indisputably stubborn and high strung.  A lot of the time she's either complaining or arguing.  But, she does have the occasional moments where she's timid, or quiet, or sad.

For her voice type, I want a mid to semi-high ranged teenage voice since she is a girl in her mid-early teens.  Be careful though, if your audition is too high in pitch it will likely be rejected, so the safest bet is to go for a more mid-ranged voice.

  • What should we do?  If we just keep playing like this, the audience is going to be upset.

  • Don't give me that!  You're really late!

  • What's going on?

(Said quietly, sort of in shock)

A member on the bridge of the Battle 7.

Her voice is similar to Miho's, but it's lower and she doesn't react as dramatically.

  • Captain!  What is that weapon?!

  • Captain, they've broken through the first line and are headed for the ship!

  • Knock it off!  You're interfering with a military operation!  Get out of here immediately or I'll shoot you!

The keytarist of Fire Bomber, Ray is definitely the most down to earth of all the band members.  Over the years, he's gathered plenty of wisdom, and it shows in his voice.  For the most part, he takes things as they come, laughing off most inconveniences.

He needs to have a deep, almost fatherly voice.

  • That explosion came from one of our fighters.  It looks like they're in the middle of a battle.

  • I'm trying to "jack" into the military radio bands.

These are basically the guys who run the sound equipment for the band.  They're very minor characters.

  • Tech Guy A: Mylene seems really high-strung.

  • Tech Guy B:  Don't worry, she'll get used to it.

The leader of the Protodeviln, he has also taken over a human's body.

He is confirmed to be male, but both his appearance and his japanese voice could have left that open to speculation.  So, I'm going to make this open to both genders.  He needs to have a voice that kind of crosses the line between the two (I suggest looking him up to understand what I mean).  He also needs to sound sinister since he's essentially the main antagonist.

  • What's causing the gauges to malfunction?

  • Anima Spiritia!

    (Said in awe and anger)

Initial leader of Diamond Force.  He's an inspiring leader, but he's not a drill sergeant.  If anything, he has a more fatherly disposition towards the members of his squad.  His voice needs to be in a baritone kind of range.

  • The military has invested lots of money in us; battle suits, weapons, special training, as well as all of the food we've eaten as well as the beds we sleep in.  Keep that in mind Gamlin and Docker.  Don't rush into anything or else you'll crash and burn.  You're not only responsible for yourselves.  You are also responsible for Diamond Force's honor.

There's not much to say about this one.  Just use your best narrator voice, but don't make it cheesy.

  • In the year 2009, humanity encountered its first alien race.

  • In April of that same year, the New Unity Government was established, bringing together mankind and the Zentraedi into peaceful co-existence.

  • In 2038, the 37th colonial expedition, the 7th Macross fleet, launched from Earth orbit.  Its destination -- the galactic core.  It is now 2045...
