Dishonored 2 Hypercut Challenge Run

Project Overview

What's going on here?

First of all, hello! My name is Jack, and this is a project I've been aiming to work on for about 2 years now. I'm a YouTuber making challenge run and 100% videos where I, typically, hire my friends to voice act for (technically) fan dubbed roles that follow a custom made story that I planned and prepared for my channel. These stories usually follow specific lore bullet points I've come up with, but today is not the case.

The video is question is linked directly in this project for those who want to see the kind of editing that will be done for this video. The dialogue in the video is all done by me and the video was launched several months before I began asking friends and family for help with voice acting.

This project is being done with a sequel challenge run to a video I made 3 years ago (nearly) where I played through the first Dishonored game without touching anyone. That means I couldn't physically touch them, they couldn't physically touch me, and my sword could not be used as a weapon to attack nor defend. It was the third Hypercut video I made for my channel at the time, and I've finally gotten around to making the sequel. This video will have a stronger storyline and as such, I will require bringing on more voice actors. I have hired several of my friends for most of the roles, but the roles listed are the only ones that are vacant after the previous deadline was met.

What do I even expect?

When it comes to voice acting, I am not picky for quality most of the time. All that I ask is for these three things:

  • Minimal background noise or echo

  • Understandable voice lines with proper enunciation for clear audio

  • Expressive line delivery where requested;

I will be editing the voice lines as necessary. For example, Jessamine's lines will be edited to be more ethereal or ghostly, but I don't expect you or others to do those effects for me. If you want to try your hand at them, then by all means, but please provide one take with the effects and one take without the effects if you do.

These characters are going to be treated like actual characters for the most part. I'm not picky about mistakes involving poor pronunciation, but do please try to follow the script notes on how lines are meant to be said. If a script note is not present before a specific line in the same span of dialogue, then the initial tone indicated at the beginning of the dialogue is what is intended for the entirety of your part of the conversation. If you need anything else cleared up, I am always more than happy to offer live direction while sitting in a Discord call.

One final note is that I do not use nor intend to use AI for the future. Any voice lines you submit to me will never touch an AI voice modifier, nor any other kind of AI adjustments. The use of AI in such a manner is, unless given extreme, express, and explicit permission, a betrayal of artistic integrity and trust to me.

Role Significance

You may have noticed only two of these roles are paid roles. That is because I am paying out of pocket, so I want to give what money I can to the roles that have to put in the most effort.

Emily is the main character and has, by far, the largest amount of voice lines, and as such, I am ensuring that whoever I choose for the role is compensated for being willing to put that much time into the character. I appreciate all of the help, and as I grow as a creator and can bring in more revenue, that will ensure I can reach a point where I can pay every voice actor no matter how small the role. I hope you understand.

Aramis' pay is lower, yes, but while I won't be using every single voice line recorded, I still want to recognize the work put into sounding like an insane, disassociated genius stuck in his own head.

Additional Info

For each character, I do not expect you to imitate any of the voices already in the game. The direction I give (indicated by brackets [] before, during or after the lines) will be yours to interpret and use to guide you to the end goal. Like I've said previously, I'm not particularly picky, so if what you do still lines up with how it should sound in my head, I will be more than happy.

I will be primarily using Discord in order to communicate with my voice actors. I have a server for my YouTube channel that, should you join, you will be given a role that indicates you are one of my voice actors. We will use the specific channels to discuss planning and organization, as well as direction. However, if you would prefer to DM one another either here or on Discord, I am open to other communication channels. Just please don't make me use Microsoft Teams. I've had enough of that in my real world life.

Thank you for your audition, if you do apply, and good luck to you! :)

Latest Updates

  • Re-opening Roles

Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, one of the voice actors initially hired had to drop the project. So, I've reopened the roles they were hired for and extended the deadline by another week!

  • Another small payment update

I said you'd probably see another one of these! All of the chosen voice actors have been notified of their payment updates, but I'm updating the final role publicly, as well.

This is specifically being done as a thank you to all of the strangers who want to be involved in a personal passion project of mine. You guys are awesome for wanting to do it, initial payment or not, so I want to ensure everyone knows how much gratitude I have.

  • Payment update

After picking up more hours at my cool and awesome normal person job, I've decided to throw some extra money at the project and give payment to every voice acting role. It's not a lot of money given to the few roles with less lines, but I did feel bad making it an unfair scenario where only a couple of voice actors get paid for the project. Hopefully you understand, and should I come upon more money, you may see another update like this talking about increasing some pay before the deadline. Good luck!

For context to Emily's story, I made a Dishonored 1 challenge run where I could not touch anybody with either myself or my sword. The story of this video was a bit nonsensical, but it ended with the interaction between the player and the player's in-game daughter, Emily Kaldwin, being a negative one. Emily Kaldwin, taken hostage by a loyalist traitor to the main protagonist Corvo Attano, fell off of a large, metal watch tower, presumably to her death.

Given she is the main character of Dishonored 2 by my choice, the story revolves around her plot to get revenge on her father, Corvo Attano, in a way that she is satisfied by. However, one day, a witch named Delilah Copperspoon shows up and causes a lot of issues with her plans, and so Emily goes on a journey of self-realization and forgiveness in order to ensure her future is as she decides, unlike what had happened to her in Dishonored 1.

There will be vocal direction in the text, but I am always open to offering additional vocal direction if it is required.

The men that I had trusted more than most… betrayed me, taking me hostage. Then, the man I trusted more than anyone watched as I fell to my death. Except, I didn’t die.

  • [Whimsical, as if daydreaming of a beautiful place] Post this cat when the entities come forth.

  • [On the verge of tears] Father, I have… so much to make up for.

Minor Character -- 5 lines

A side character that is killed off at the beginning of the video, but she is a relatively important character to Emily in the game itself, as she was one of the only loyal guards she had when the revolution began. In this script, she speaks with an air of whimsy to her voice, like she always has some joke to tell.

She has 2 lines that are done while she is dying, so they will require the same strained, weak, dying voice line when the time comes. When thinking of a voice line inspiration, I would look to Karen Gillan as a prime example.

Minor Character -- 3 lines

Emily's mother. She is disappointed in Emily's actions throughout the game, as the challenge of not touching anyone makes it very difficult to play stealthily and on low chaos at the same time. Effectively, that means I kill a lot of people throughout the events of the game, causing everyone around Emily to become negatively aligned to her actions. Jessamine's final lines in the video are the catalyst for why Emily finally changes and works to save Corvo.

All three of Jessamine's lines will be read as being disappointed or attempting to hide disappointment.

There are three different accents I envision this version of Jessamine having, so I will be happy if you try to do any of them. I'm not particularly picky on which one I actually want, so do your best.

Minor character -- 2 lines

Alexandria is an alchemist that's gone crazy due to her being taken over by an alternate personality. She only has 2 lines in the script, but they are both spoken as if she were losing her mind quietly and unable to focus on something.

We run into Alexandria as she is dazed and confused in her laboratory at Addermire Institute. Emily is supposed to neutralize her, but because of the 'No Touching' challenge, I do something a little more elaborate. Her death is quick and sudden as a result, and that's why she only has those 2 lines.

I did put English (British), but for this character specifically, I'd like you to take inspiration from Maggie Smith. Don't do an impersonation if you can help it, as I'm not specifically looking for one, but I won't overlook them, either.

Minor Character -- 20 lines

Aramis Stilton lost his mind during a ritual to revive an evil, heartless witch from her eternal prison. Now, he sits there, unable to comprehend that everything his genius had built has crumbled to dust -- quite literally -- before him. His mind is even unable to see the player character running around him, or speaking to an entity far more powerful than the witch Delilah.

While Aramis has a multitude of voice lines, only a handful of them shall be used as background chatter during the video. Specifically, several lines of this dialogue will be used leading up to and during a conversation between the player character of Emily and another character known as The Outsider.

All of Aramis' lines will be spoken as though he were lost and unable to find something to focus on. With his mind broken, he has no presence of self, so how the lines are spoken should emphasize that. Lines ending in ellipses should trail off while lines ending in periods should sound matter-of-fact, as if the reality Aramis is seeing is what he's really experiencing.
