Delicious in Dungeon – Comic Dub Shorts

Project Overview

Hello,

This casting call is for some quick and (hopefully!) fun comic dubs shorts for the series Delicious in Dungeon / Dungeon Meshi by Ryoko Kui. This is a hilarious series that I have loved for years– while the manga has gotten an official English translation, there are not currently any plans to make it into an anime. I would love to help bring some of the series' best moments to life through fan dub shorts!

Please note that for this project the first comic dub short is pretty much ready to go– once actors are cast and audio is in and given some quick edits, the first video will be launched on YouTube.

As such, the current listings are only the roles needed for the first comic dub short– more roles may be needed soon. So if you don't see a character you're interested in this round, please feel free to check back later :)

Audition Requirements:

– Decent audio quality

– No background noise

Communication:

Communication will be through Discord and/or email, so please be sure to be comfortable using at least one of these.

Compensation:

While this is purely a passion project that will not make any profit, as a fellow voice actor I really appreciate those willing to help! Those cast are very welcome to use the video shorts created in their VA Portfolios and additionally I will be happy to write a review for you here on CCC (or on your website/other).

  • PART II: Casting Call now LIVE

    Hello everyone!   • Laios, Chilchuck, Senshi- Casting Announcement Coming Soon!

    Thank you so much to everyone who sent in their audition(s) for Laois/Chilchuck/Senshi! There were some really incredible takes sent in and it has been a delight listening to everyone's auditions. The casting call will officially close today, however, any late submissions will continue to be considered up until the official cast is announced. I will be reviewing auditions once again and will likely have a decision made tomorrow (Sunday, Feb 6th). Cast actors will receive an announcement through CCC and will be mentioned on Twitter as well. The first video is basically ready to go, so please expect the first short script to find its way to you shortly :) A quick note- there were some truly amazing voices on display that I feel would perfectly fit other characters in the series. Unfortunately, in order to get content out quickly, I'm currently only focusing on characters needed for the first few comic dubs shorts. That means that if you are not cast in this round, it does NOT mean I don't think your voice is a good fit for the project! Everyone is very welcome to submit for additional characters coming soon. The leader of the dungeon-going party, Laois is a strong adventurer with a soft heart who gets very excited about monsters. While he does have some serious and emotional moments, a lot of his interactions are fun and often comedic. 

Voice: Young adult male voice. I don't have a preference for voice or tone or accent, so feel free to give your best personal interpretation of Laios.

  • Laois is admitting his strange fascination about monsters to the rest of the party.

    [heartfelt, slightly shy, sincere] "...I've kept quiet about it, but I love monsters. Their bodies, their voices... I want to find out more about how they live. Over time, I started wanting to know what they taste like too."

    Chilchuck: "He's a psychopath."

  • Laois is observing Senshi's cooking made from monsters in the dungeon.

    [factual, interested] "I’d say it’s more reddish than yellow.... " *eating noises* 

    [happy, impressed, surprised] "You’re right, it’s good!"

  • Said while bursting into the room.

    [absolutely thrilled] "They let me milk a minotaur!"

A halfling rogue who looks like a child but is actually 28 years old. Chilchuck likes to tease and antagonize others (especially Marcille) and can be difficult at times, but he is an essential member of the party. As a rogue, his least favorite monster is mimics. He is often involved in comedic moments. 

Voice: Young adult male voice. I don't have a preference for voice or tone or accent, so feel free to give your best personal interpretation of Chilchuck.

  • Chilchuck is making a snide comment to Marcille after she complained again about wanting to eat normal food.

    [exasperated, a little devious] "So you're one of those, huh? The type that says anything is fine, then complains about every idea?" 

  • Chilchuck is hesitant about Senshi's cooking, but gives it a taste and enjoys it.

    [curious, slightly suspicious] "It’s a lot more yellow than a chicken egg."

    [still suspicious, but eating something delicious] "Mmmm!"

  • After Laois spills his heart about how much he loves monsters and wants to eat them.

    [snide] "He's a psychopath."

A mysterious dwarf the party finds in the lower levels of the dungeon. It turns out Senshi has been surviving by eating the monsters, and he joins the party to help them on their quest to the deeper levels. He is an amazing and creative cook who can make a fantastic dish out of anything. Although he looks slightly gruff, he has a big heart and genuinely cares for those around him. 

Voice: Middle-aged male voice. Senshi is a bit rough around the edges and may have an accent, but he speaks eloquently and almost like a professor when he shares his cooking wisdom. I don't have any preference for which accent he has, so please feel free to give your best personal interpretation for Senshi. 

  • Senshi is disapproving the eating habits of other adventurers.

    [Like a disappointed father, passionate] "It's truly horrible. A cryin' shame. Young adventurers these days always bring the same food. Bread! Meat! Wine! When yer in a dungeon, I won't deny ye need the fat from meat to build stamina. But that's not enough. Malnutrition is scarier than any beastie."

  • Senshi is reflecting on the mandrake dish he cooked. He treats the ingredients seriously and with respect, but is also fascinated by the new knowledge.

    [Thoughtful, interested] "Mayhaps the mandrake loses some toxins or something when it screams."

    [Heartfelt] "Thank ye, Marcille. Yer knowledge and that book are wonderful."

    Marcille: It is NOT a cookbook! 

  • Senshi realizes something. 

    [Triumphant] "I can make bread!"

I have very basic video editing skills–  so while I'm able to get a basic video up and onto YouTube, it would be awesome to have someone more talented help with putting the videos together.
