Danganronpa S.O.S - Chapter 2 (ADDITIONAL ROLES + CREW)

Danganronpa S.O.S - Chapter 2 (ADDITIONAL ROLES + CREW)

Project Overview

Danganronpa S.O.S. is an audio drama based on the Danganronpa franchise.
This audition is for various minor roles across Chapter 2, as well as Staff Positions for the overall project.

Plot Summary: Aboard the S.S. Vorpal, a gargantuan cruise liner, sixteen Ultimate Students’ lives are thrown into chaos as their education in the Ultimate Talent Cultivation Plan is thrown into the chaos of a despair-filled killing game.

The Roles:

The roles available in this casting call are for side characters appearing throughout Chapter 2 and in side content. (To avoid spoilers, we cannot disclose which characters appear in the main series and which will appear in canonical side material.)

We are also recruiting for artists. With these positions, we're looking for people who are fans of the series and have something they would like to contribute. Whether it be CGs, spritework, graphic design or splash art, we're aiming to ramp up the aesthetics of S.O.S for Chapter 2, and we want you to be a part of it!

Additionally, we are looking for a Video Editor who can lessen the workload on our current team. We want someone who can faithfully replicate the current visual style of Danganronpa S.O.S' subtitles and text boxes, but also bring some of their own flair to the project.

Finally, we are looking for a Social Media Manager who could work with the director to dictate a social media strategy for the series, ensuring a consistent distribution of content and new material for fans.

Expectations:

For Actors:

Due to this being an audio drama, high audio quality and vocal performance is a must. Cast members are expected to have their own recording space and equipment that will produce clear and workable audio with minimal noise. All voice actors must be over 18.

For Artists:

Artists are expected to work at a high standard in a style that is close to the original series, as to create a cohesive visual aesthetic. We ask that artists be communicative and active in communicating what they can/can't handle. The ability to work to deadlines is NECESSARY for this role, though this may always be negotiated. All applicants must be over 18.

For Editors:

Editors are expected to work to deadlines and be communicative. We believe in clearly setting boundaries on workload in advance and strongly encourage collaboration between editors to get the best result and avoid burnout. All applicants must be over 18.

For Social Media Manager:

A social media manager would be expected to collaborate with the director to devise strategies for the release of S.O.S content, bring their own creativity by coming up with ideas for what to post, and taking responsibility over accounts on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and TikTok. All applicants must be over 18.

Workload:

For Actors:

As these roles are side characters with only a single planned appearance, (At present) the workload is relatively low. Line and Word Counts vary by role, in ranges of 15 - 30 Lines and 200-550 Words respectively.

For Artists:

Workload is to be heavily negotiated by the artists with the production crew of S.O.S. Artists are always given at least a month for major assets used in episodes, such as CGs and sprites. At times we will request a shorter turnaround, but this will always be negotiated with artists beforehand and is never mandatory.

For Editors:

Due to the intensity of editing, the workload will vary by episode length. On average episodes range from 40 to 60 minutes. Ideally we would like to take on multiple editors to dilute this workload. More specialised sections such as animation during executions and CGs will also not be expected of regular editors and will be managed by another editor.

For Social Media Manager:

As a more fluid role that is not tied directly to episode production, as well as one sharing responsibilities with the director, deadlines will be negotiated on a case by case basis with the director and largely dictated by the SMM themselves based on their current planned content and capacity to work on the project.

Deadlines:

We always aim to give deadlines of at least a month for any element of the project. Generally, however, this will be longer. The team also heavily values negotiation and communication, so deadlines may always be discussed according to your needs..

Character Profile: Kokoro Uehara’s mother. Eri is a washed up former idol who now works in the seedier side of the entertainment industry. Despite her current work, which she looks down upon, she still believes herself to be an excellent actress worthy of a second chance, always chasing opportunities to regain her former glory.

As Kokoro’s mother, she is heavily invested in her daughter’s success, strongly encouraging her to pursue the media opportunities she herself lacks. Although she is very insistent on Kokoro’s next course of action, she never actively forces her daughter into anything; She allows Kokoro to be her own person, but always tries to direct her towards her own ideals.

Voice: For Eri we're looking for a balance of maturity and immaturity in her voice, someone who has aged but is also attempting to sound and seem younger than she is. We'd like to hear a level of callousness and disregard in her voice, but also genuine motherly care, all in a medium-low register.

Character Profile: The leader of famed idol group Star*Dash, Takashi Young, otherwise known as Takkun plays the role of the cool, confident leader, standing front and centre in all their promotional imagery. Despite this, he has been overshadowed by his groupmate Kojiro Nakusawa, and as such is seeking to elevate his career to rival him.

Takkun is very much a product of his environment, fixated on status and popularity. He possesses a cynical streak, knowing well how the industry functions and commodifies people, but is more than willing to play the game, and even despite this, he does maintain genuine enthusiasm for the industry and his career.

Voice: For Takkun, we're looking for someone who can sell an upbeat idol persona with high energy and boyish charm in a medium-high register, but also provide snark and cynicism befitting of his ability to switch his idol persona on and off. This may manifest in a change in tone, but also in pitch.

  • (Charming, growing in excitement as he speaks) So... Assuming Kojiro hasn't snatched you up yet, I have a proposition... I go solo. You manage me. We make Takkun the new Ultimate Idol. How's that sound?

Character Profile: Jelena Gruzdeva’s adoptive father. Fyodor is a strict military man, beholden to hierarchy and dedicated first and foremost to his motherland. Despite this, he is very personable and warm to those he is close to. This contrast is central to his character, as he in equal measure plays loving father and commanding officer for his daughter. He is a calm, reserved person with a strong ability to suppress his own emotions. Much like his daughter, he is a trained interrogator and intelligence operative. Although he is largely a kind person, he believes morality should be secondary to duty.

Voice: Perform in a Russian accent. For Fyodor we're looking for a balanced, medium pitch voice that can take on a stern, cold and calculating tone, but also switch to a warm, kind one at a moment's notice. The ability to play intensity in his voice, whether it be upbeat excitement for his daughter or a stern lecture on the importance of their nation, is essential.

Character Profile: Mamiko Rain’s father. An Ex-American soldier who was stationed in Japan, he met Mamiko’s mother and became a citizen. After receiving a career-ending injury on duty and a messy divorce, Darnell raised Mamiko single-handedly. Despite the difficulties of both his past and his present living as a black man in Japan, he is a hardy and good-spirited person.

He is a protector by nature, always eager to help Mamiko despite knowing full well she is fully capable of handling herself. Whether this stems from his background as a soldier or because he knows just how difficult growing up in her circumstances has been isn’t certain.

Due to Darnell being a black character and the importance of this to his and Mamiko's stories, we’d like to strongly encourage black voice actors to apply for this role particularly.

Voice: For Darnell we're looking for a warm, fatherly voice with a low-depth and the capacity for great enthusiasm when telling jokes or being protective over his daughter.

Character Profile: Erica Rutherford’s older brother. Having been totally upstaged by his Ultimate younger sister, Rian is a sardonic and snarky person, constantly making light of his sister and her success. While intelligent in his own right and more than able to keep up with her in conversation, he bears a level of resentment toward her due to their parents' preferential treatment.

Despite his outward animosity toward Erica, he does ultimately love her and takes a vested interest in supporting her. He is her closest confidant and keeps secrets well, providing a level-headed perspective and practicality that is often of great help to his sister.

Voice: Perform in an English accent (Listen to Erica Rutherford in the main series for reference) For Rian we're looking for a light, clear medium pitch voice with a smooth and snarky tone, very confident and able to glide through his words with a dry wit.

Character Profile: Jim Hamer’s deputy. A skinny, unconfident young man with an intense sense of duty. Despite lacking any of the competence and confidence that Jim possesses, his rock-solid moral compass and willingness to put himself on the line have driven him to be the Ultimate Sheriff's right hand.

Hailing from a small town, his duties rarely extend to more than settling a dispute over cattle, but he treats each minor squabble like the biggest case of his life, making him a reliable and beloved part of his hometown infrastructure, though he cannot help but feel he doesn’t live up to Jim.

Voice: Perform in a Southern U.S accent (Lean towards a "cowboy" stereotype more than a specific state or region). For Francis we want a voice with some bounce that can vary its pitch in a way reminiscent of his voice breaking, to sell a lack of confidence and a sense of youth. Generally we ask his voice be medium-high in tone, but we would be interested in hearing lower takes provided the performance is accurate.

Character Profile: An environmental scientist tied to Sonny MacMillan. Martha is someone who has been promoted far too highly, far too quickly in the face of ongoing environmental decline. Martha carries the weight of the world on her shoulders and is suitably exhausted. While otherwise a friendly and confident girl, the strain of her position has begun to weigh on her, leaving her high-strung and somewhat thorny. While she does her best to remain positive and does all she can, she is rational first and foremost, realising how powerless she is. Despite this, endeavours to do all she can to undo the damage being done to the world.

Voice: Martha can be performed in a variety of accents, namely any strongly recognisable accent from the British Isles (The UK and Ireland) or American. For Martha, we're looking for a medium voice with a slight nasal bent and a heavy weight behind her words. Voice: Performed in a Southern Accent (See Drew Honeywell's accent for reference). Voice: Performed in a Southern accent (Draw from Drew Honeywell's performance in the series, as well as the stereotypical 'Southern Belle' vibe). For Diane, we'd like a slightly airy and silky voice that is used to speak a little too sweetly. Voice: Performed in a British (I.E. English) accent. For this character we are interested in hearing regional English accents as well as the typical RP (Reserved Pronunciation).
