City Livin'
Project Overview
Six characters, under two different roofs with differing personalities, have moved to the city to fulfil their dreams, find themselves and be a part of a friendship they never saw coming.
The series is planned to be a long-term show, please only audition if you can make the commitment and adhere to deadlines.
Hiya!
This casting call is for Season 1 of "City Livin'". I am new to the world of machinima but have enjoyed writing for quite some time and thought to combine my interests with my long time favourite game, The Sims 3.
When writing the pilot episode, I had the series being set in London in mind and that will be evident in the audition lines - please don't fret if you're from another region/country entirely. I will adjust the script if I find actors whose voices I feel suit the role the best. I would prefer lines to be spoken in whichever accent is most comfortable for you, to keep a sense of authenticity. Also, I'd love mature voices as majority of the characters are all in their 20s :). Be expressive and as entertaining as you can be!
Even if you're not cast for the main role but your voice suits the tone of the show, you may be contacted to play as an extra or have a supporting role.
DEADLINES AND AUDITIONS
Deadline was extended for further casting considerations.
WHAT WE ASK OF YOU
- First and foremost, have fun -- I want to see you make the characters YOURS! I'm sure you'll offer insight into the characters that I - the writer - would have never seen without your lovely voices.
- Submit clean recordings. Please, no obnoxious noises in the background. Do not add any voice effects - if necessary this will be done during post-production.
- You may be occasionally asked for line re-dos, but not often and only after great consideration - your time is valuable, and you won't be asked for anything that can't be worked around in edits.
A NOTE:
Since this is a passion project, this will not be paid. Hopefully in the future and with more experience, I will venture into creating higher productions :)

24. If I were American, I'd describe him as "jock-ey". Athletic. A lil bit of a criminal (he'll do anything to make quick money and avoid work). Social elite. Too forward. A flirt.
[Context: His bed has been sold since he cannot afford it anymore. He's whining to his best friend about the loss]
Memory foam mattress, Gina. The foam with memory. I had the best sleeps of my life on that bed and now it's gone. Insomnia was a distant relative - in fact, I don't know her. Insomnia who? Is that some kind of rock band?
[Interviewing a potential flatmate who says they're an aspiring musician]
Don't take this the wrong way, but. Are you sure you're actually any good? I've interviewed several "aspirers" today and I'm telling you, I don't know what they put in the Thames for everyone to believe they can just up and move to London and aspiration will turn to full-time employment but-
[Trying to sell illegal substances to the elderly]
You see, it's all a ploy. The pharmacy won't give you this 'cos they want you to buy the man-made crap. And when you don't, they don't care if you shrivel like a prune and your joints become so stiff you start walking like a t-rex. Capitalism, is the devil.
25. Grayson's best friend and ex hook-up buddy from university days. Much more put together than the rest of the characters. Real estate agent. Workaholic. Smart. Too prideful for her own good. Likes her own space.
[Context: Talking about her 'too bubbly' flatmate - starts off nice, but tone quickly shows annoyance]
Now, Jordan... she's a sweet girl. Like syrup. But there's only so much you can take before it becomes sickening.
[Talking about her overly expensive home she shares with her flatmate who constantly wants to update the funiture]
Now let me get this straight: the place was not cheap nor ugly. I work way too hard to live in anything below societal expectations of a successful, young black woman.
[Context: Telling another character that they *will* be following her orders and turn up to the event]
You will be there.
23. Ditzy. Looks at the world through rose-coloured glasses. Privileged, doesn't realise it. Believes she is the main character. Commercial actress wanting to make it BIG.
[Context: Trying to get the truth out of her flatmate if she is dating her so-called "best-friend"]
(Convinced that what she's saying is plain science)
You spend way too much time with him to just be friends. And if you really are just friends, he must be ugly.
[Context: Grayson's younger sister, Niriyah, is showing Gina and Jordan pictures from her night out]
Gina: Oh how I miss the days of youth where it was acceptable to wear dresses with trainers.
Jordan: (dumbfounded) That was ever acceptable?
Jordan: [Sees Niriyah's offended reaction] (Clearly lying through her teeth) ...But you guys, WHEW. Rocking it. Really.
[Phone conversation with Gina, setting up where they should eat for dinner]
Jordan: Change of plan tonight.
Gina: You're cancelling?
Jordan: (excited) 'Course not! Just that I've got some really good news and wanna celebrate over dinner at a cute little place I found online. It has this dimly lit, outdoors-indoors thing going on that I'm really into right now. Very Instagrammable.
27. Sophisticated but still playful with it. Ambitious. Virtuoso. Risk-taker. Developer turned aspiring music producer.
[Context: After Grayson asks whether he'd get back into boxing]
Psh. No. I'd get killed. That was back in university and I was only part of the society because it made me look cool. Girls loved it.
[Sarcastic, dull]
It's almost like people have lives outside of work.
(Confident)
I'm pretty good at what I do. I've been a freelance producer for years and now I just want to focus on my passion fully. You can look me up on YouTube.
23 going on 24. Left home. Socially inept. Loner. Scary exterior, anxiety-ridden softie interior. Deep voice.
(Offended, flat)
What does someone who's into art look like?
(Low, almost threatening)
You should keep unsought opinions to your self.
(Order)
Don't touch me. Don't talk to me. Cease to exist in my presence.
Niriyah is 19 years old and a supporting character who will become more prominent in later episodes. She is Grayson's younger sister. Highly intelligent which makes her a bit of an outcast amongst her university peers. Very impressionable. Obsessive when it comes to love. Feisty.
[Context: Grayson questioning why Niriyah and her friends ended up staying at his new apartment]
Grayson: Why didn't you just go back home?
Niriyah: I told mum I'd be staying at Helen's.
Grayson: So why didn't you go Helen's?
Niriyah: Because Helen told her mum she'd be staying at mine.
Grayson: (sighs, looks at Niriyah's other friend) So I'm guessing you were in on this too?
Niriyah: Her parents think she's on a home stay in france.
Niriyah: (in response to Grayson's confused expression) Long story short: she's staying at Kyle's - her boyfriend's - for the summer.
