Eastmouth: Season 2 (Small Town Mystery/Adventure/Horror)

Project Overview

Pirate radio for a coastal town that is bathed in mystery. If it has three eyes, run.

I'm looking for voice actors to take part in a mystery adventure podcast with a long-running story. This current casting will only last for one season as there will be a time-skip and a recast for the next one. It initially focuses on an eerie, coastal town in Maine during the 1960's, whose population inadvertently sets off a chain of events that dismantles the dimensional and universal veil of order. Think King Falls AM and Return Home, but with a more serious, long-running narrative that includes slice-of-life adventures alongside strong elements of horror, mystery, and action. The roles will be paid provided they reach a certain threshold of lines within each episode. The episodic payment model will work roughly as follows: $5/$10 + a share in the Patreon/advertising pool. As this model is somewhat volatile, I have not listed any of the roles as paid. If you're chosen for a part, I will go into explicit depths on the model's innerworkings.

These episodes are written, recorded, and edited sequentially instead of all at once. If you want to take part, either leave your submission here or personally message me on Reddit (dctullis). You'll be allowed to deviate from the script a little bit to help make it your own. I’m willing to accept anyone as long as they have a decent microphone, can deliver a performance that feels like the character, and are capable of sticking to deadlines. If you have any questions please message me or leave a response here.

Latest Updates

  • The deadline has been extended by one week.

The turnout has been fantastic so far, and I'm already eyeing several of you for the roles. However, this is a season that will have many extra characters due to the scope. If you're not comfortable with auditioning for one of the more prominent characters, or just want to improve your odds, please audition for the "Townsfolk/Council Member/Cultist/Agent" role. Several of you who do will get the chance to grow into minor but recurring characters over the course of the season.

Deborah Sherban is one of the primary antagonists of this season. She is a ruthless up-and-comer on the town council who is looking to fill the void of power left by the deaths of several council members during the previous season. However, her plans don't quite come to fruition in the way she expects them to as she encounters an artifact that sets off a chain of violence and insanity.

She's a mid-thirties middle-class woman who is happily married. That marriage is one of her few weaknesses. One she'll be forced to come to terms with as she wrestles with the question - "How far would I go for control and admiration?"

  • [You're courting a nervous wreck of an architect to be your partner in crime. You're sitting at the dinner table in his gaudy home and have been drinking at a very controlled pace.] "Now, now, Aldo. I'm certain that we can both benefit from this. Their perception of you is in tatters, even if you were only ever being honest. But that shouldn't stop you. No, I'm certain if I can spin a few cards, we'll both get what we want. "

  • [In a dimly lit basement, you stand over a ritual site. Beside you are many of your fellow council members. Their eyes stare out sightlessly at their captives. Your mind is no longer entirely your own. You feel both pride and bloodlust welling up from deep within.] "I envy you. Your very essence will build its earthly temple. " [You call over two of the council members.] "Hoist him up with the rope. I'll do the honors of the draining. "

Chuck is one of the few remaining Passamaquoddy Native Americans that still live in the area around Eastmouth. His family lineage was protective of one of Eastmouth's longest running secrets.

He has a mysterious past and connections to a secretive organization within the U.S. government. He lives on the outskirts of town and only tends to enter for the sake of groceries or to buy new books. Otherwise, he lives a fairly solitary life. Chuck is a kindhearted man with a seemingly solemn appearance. He has a strong dislike of cussing.

  • [Upon meeting Obediah in an odd circumstance. The two are somewhat disoriented after a car crash. Luckily, they are safe enough for the time being.] "Weren't you ever taught how to drive...?" [Obediah recognizes him.] "And if that isn't Obediah Marsh? I don't believe I've seen you since my pa visited yours a decade ago. "

  • [Their plan is falling apart all around them as the deck catches flame and gunshots burst off in the distance.] "Go for it! I'll hold them off. I've got the shells and that... thing has my back." [He turns to the creature to his left as they hold off the onslaught of cultists. (vaguely comedic/sarcastic)] "You do have my back, right?!"

Role assigned to: Connor Bushoven

James is the loving husband of Deborah Sherban, one of the primary antagonists of this season. He's a school teacher with a love for fishing. The couple moved to Eastmouth a few years prior for mysterious reasons, and have since settled very well into small-town American life. He's a mild-mannered man of tall stature. His neighbors could not imagine a world in which he was capable of violence, at least not in a sane state of mind.

James is a minor character that shares in the spreading insanity caused by the artifact. Unlike his wife, he does not feel the strain of the relationship as their life of normalcy collapses around them.

  • [As your wife returns from her weekly council meeting, you take your gaze away from the radio.] "How was it, dear? Was Edna giving you a hassle again? Frankly, that woman would love to see this town raised to the ground if she thought she was taking a swipe at the 'sinning menace'. "

  • [Your mind has already begun to falter as you feel the pull of the artifact. You pull over into the parking lot of Angel's View Clinic. There are other cultists in the van with you. Deborah sits beside you in the passenger seat.] "Will she do, my love? That nurse over there? We only need one more for the night. " [Deborah replies, and James listens as if her descriptions of kidnapping are a new form of poetry.] "My love, I can't wait to see you brandish the knife. The way they squirm against their fate with such fear is damn-near erotic. "

Mr. Slant is a mysterious government agent from an organization that deals with the times in which things go bump in the night. He's grim and self-serious. An apt description would be Agent Smith from The Matrix. There's something off about him that crawls beneath one's skin. But then again, who else would be working a job like that?

  • [He turns away from the clean up job to offer three business cards to the teenagers. (His demeanor is cold and self-serious.)] "I'm not sure if any of you have long-term plans after this event, but here's my card. You did well enough. If you're interested, we could offer you a trial apprenticeship. You kids do well, and you might just get a career out of this.

Role assigned to: Bonnie Calderwood Aspinwall

Sylvia Laurent runs the local florist shop, Sylvia's Flowers. She has a naturally timid personality unless she is directly confronted. Intense and aggressive would be understatements of how her personality changes if she feels threatened.

Initially, she is the opponent running against Deborah for a stronger share of power in the town council, but upon losing, she decides to subvert Deborah at any turn she can. Her idea fails miserably as her mind is wrecked along with the other town council members by the pull of the artifact.

She's a strong proponent of cleaning up any corruption or injustice that she finds within the town. At times, this even leads her to agree with the more extremist views of teacher and fellow council member Edna Beechworth.

  • [Her election speech at the summer festival has been ruined by an elaborate 'prank' played upon her by Deborah and Aldo. She stands on the stage, entirely conflicted between bursting into tears and stabbing Deborah right then and there. She attempts to begin the speech, but she's already in shambles.] "My f-friends and constituents. W-we can make this... No, we have already started. (pause) The housing p-project is where... our... divide... (pause) I just can't do this." [She angrily storms off stage.]

  • [Her timid personality has wavered as one of the kidnapped victims has just spat at her. (angry and predatory)] "I'm a florist. Do you know how many ways I can snip you without killing you?" [She's stopped by Aldo, who reminds her that the said victim isn't the one to be sacrificed. Her demeanor gradually falls back to timidity.] "Oh, dear. Y-you're right. I must restrain myself. It's that blissful fuzz. I c-cant... I must."

Role assigned to: Liz Moss

The second of two shape-shifting aliens that have found their way to Eastmouth through a very long chain of events. She's been held underground in captivity for at least a century and has no greater wish than to return to her other half. When in human form, she has a very calm and almost radiant personality. When she transforms into her natural form, she can no longer speak through vocal chords and resembles something closer to an alien spider than anything else.

She'll be found in the latter half of the season and help out until she's reunited with her spouse.

  • [Upon first being found in the subterranean laboratory. She senses that one of the humans can understand her and transforms before their very eyes. (calm and almost hypnotic)] "I see that you can understand me even in my other forms." [Obediah explains to her how he can understand and asks her why she's caged down there.] "Those Fae are not kind to us. I remember little before I was sealed here. Another presence, maybe. One that felt close to me."

You might have the chance to play a character that has some growth and real screen presence before the end of the season. Otherwise, you'll be able to contribute background conversations via the agents, the cultists, or the general townsfolk.

  • [Angry and in combat] "Blast those fish-freaks!"

  • [Worried townsfolk calling into the station.] "Hope you're doing all right, Obediah. My sister-in-law has been acting awfully strange as of late. She's one of the council-folk. There's something going on all right. Something that just doesn't sit right with me. "
