Project Overview

This scene is for an audio drama.  Looking for natural, emotive acting.


Though it is recorded in English, the drama takes place in a setting where Esperanto is the primary language.  We occasionally remind the audience of this by employing a "language transition" effect, so we need some lines both in English and Esperanto.  These are automated translations - if you are an Esperanto expert, please feel free to make any necessary corrections, or to perform an alternative translation that is better / more natural / easier to pronounce.

**edit**  - There are some good voices auditioning who don't have Esperanto experience :-)  
Crash pronunciation course:

Accent is always on the second-to-last syllable.
"scias" is a tough one:  "c" is pronounced "ts", so "scias" is pronounced "s-TSEE-ahs".
"j" is pronounced like "y":  "kafejo" = "kah-FEY-yoh"

This part had been cast and the work completed but we need some changes and the original actor is no longer available.


The lines are needed both in English and in Esperanto.  There are a few additional lines beyond what is posted in this audition.  I can make a rough mix of the original scene available to serve as a guide.

These lines are needed both in English and in Esperanto (included).

The character is outside the door of a cafe speaking with another girl and a doorman.  She is **mildly** intoxicated with a substance called "Gladness" ("Ĝojo").  Not slurring words, but short attention span, moving from one thought to the next.

  • (dismissively)You don't know anything.  He has no chance.*Vi scias nenion.  Li ne havas ŝancon.*

  • (partly to herself, aside)Gladness.  I need Gladness.*Ĝojo.  Mi bezonas ĝojo.*

  • (pronounced YET-tah)He was waiting for Yeta.*Li atendis Yeta.*(pause - looks up)So many stars!*Tiom da steloj!*

A cafe attendant, behind a bar, gives another character directions.

Natural acting, neutral accent / tone.

There is moderate-volume music in the cafe, so Attendant 2 speaks up slightly to be heard - but not too loud.

  • The terrace - on the roof-top.  Have you been here before, my friend?

  • Ah, I see.  Just follow those little blue lights in the ceiling.  

  • They mark pathways.  Green lights to the garden, red to the dance floor.  The blue ones'll lead you to the stairway, up and out - to the "blue" sky.
