Kyuta's master and teacher, Kumatetsu is hot tempered and a little more than rough around the edges, not to mention horrible at explaining what his young apprentice is supposed to do during training, and how to fix what he's doing wrong. Although Kumatetsu has more brawn than brain he's got a heart of gold and genuinely cares for Kyuta as his own son.
(Preparing to demonstrate a move to Kyuta) Watch and learn.

Then I'll explain. Listen up, first you grip your sword... 'Kay? Then its a whoosh and a bang! Okay?(shouting)No! No! No! GRRRIIIIIIIIP IT!(Frustrated and shouting)What's there to teach just do it! DO IT! ARGH STUBBORN BOY!(Frustrated but not shouting)How much clearer do you need me to make it for you? You grab the sword, that's in your soul. Okay now do it!
Tatara is one of Kumatetsu best and most trusted friends. Harsh, but with good humor and always ready to poke fun at whoever makes a mistake. At first he is a bit rough on Kyuta and belittles him often, but in the end he ends up caring for Kyuta as much as Kumatetsu.
(unimpressed) Eh, that wasn't bad.
(poking fun at Kyuta)Ha! You crack me up, what aren't ya doin wrong?
(Laughing at Kyuta)(mocking) "it's my first time" no ya don't say! (Laughing at Kyuta)
One of Kumatetsu's most trusted friends. A monk whom is wise and always encouraging of Kyuta to better himself and not give up. Calm and intelligent he's able to talk some amount of sense into Kumatetsu when he's angered.
(Calmly and encouraging)Go on, give it a try.
(To Kumatetsu in a calm rational tone)
He can't just look at you and do it. You have to explain how it's done. That's what it means to be the master.(To Kumatetsu in a slightly frustrated, but still rational, tone)Find a way to explain it to him. Try using different words.
