BERSERK 1997 Abridged

BERSERK 1997 Abridged

Project Overview

This is going to be an abridged series for the 1997 anime Berserk (and possibly a 2nd season where it's the 2016 version). The goal is to make a shortened experience of the anime for viewers and throw in some nonsensical humor to help ease the audience into this cruel and unjust world. Think of it sort of like if the Berserk outtakes were just the show. This is my first project like this so bear with me; however, I am an experienced editor and I've gotten into voice acting and sound design recently so I decided to challenge myself with this project. It's still in very early production and might take a while to piece all together so PLEASE AUDITION IF YOU'RE COMMITED TO A LONG-TERM PROJECT. I will also update this every now and then to let you all know the status of the project and if the deadline date changes. Thanks for your time!

Please do multiple takes of each line (format doesn't matter).

Have none or as little as possible background noise and a decent mic.

Please also include your discord or a way to contact you.

As the oppressive ruler of Koka, the Snake Lord possessed a demeanor of calmness and dominance, and was unapologetically sadistic in nature. He reveled and took pride in the fear he induced in the hearts of men, and bore a strong disdain for humanity, believing humans were nothing more than morsels for apostlekind and longing to see them die in a fiery chaos. He will appear in ep1 and the first antagonist. For his voice I'm looking for something similar to the dub (https://youtu.be/L7cv9Ef8xOs?si=0E8ESED_TaCCHxv-) or if you have your own interpretation I'd love to hear that as well!

Bazuso is a brash man, taunting those reluctant to attack him and loudly goading his enemies right in front of him. He is the first enemy Guts faces in the Golden Age. The voice I want for him is something similar to Sr Pelo's Asgore (https://youtu.be/1YWO56n6Pu0?si=pLEZhV0GGZUGyGka) or a mix of that and his voice from the dub (https://youtu.be/fNhxZPevWPE?si=RbiAUzG8_EvYLn-D). Do whatever you think best fits him! This character will appear at the end of ep.1 and start of ep 2.

Griffith has almost always carried himself in a well-mannered, exemplary fashion indistinguishable from that of nobility; his mannerisms coupled with his keen intellect often leave people astounded at his humble origins. Self-assuredly unique from others, Griffith's presence has always been undeniable; those who meet him end up viewing him with either good will or animosity, with the former growing into trust or fellowship, and the latter into awe or even dread. Those who choose to follow Griffith typically are overcome with emotions upon their first encounter with him, either entranced by the thought of splendor and grandeur at his side, or reeled in by his strong sense of ambition and conviction. Conversely, he is capable of perceiving subtle ill will a person harbors toward him, and acts accordingly from that point on. Yet, he also claims not to dislike doing things by force. An understanding of such human emotions and motivations, and an unbridled ambition paying heed to nothing but ascension, have enabled Griffith to ascend alone above all.

Casca proves to be a determined and capable leader within the Band of the Falcon who merits the respect of her comrades in arms. So great is her leadership that she is able to rally the band behind her in their moment of utmost peril and prevent the complete annihilation of the fugitive band for a year following Griffith's imprisonment. She fosters morale among the rank and file of the band, who in turn affectionately call her "Big Sis". Even amid the Eclipse, Casca does not allow the band members to panic, commanding them to assume formation and contribute what they can.

Guts was born from the corpse of his lynched mother underneath a hanging tree, where he was left to die alone in a mire of blood and afterbirth. A mercenary group lead by a man named Gambino eventually happened upon the grisly site, presuming the infant to be dead. When the baby began wailing, to the surprise of the mercenaries, an acquaintance of Gambino's, Shisu, immediately took to the child and came to his aid. Gambino allowed the woman to keep Guts for her own personal consolation, despite the circumstances of Guts' birth being considered ominous by his cohorts. Three years later, Guts' surrogate mother contracted the plague, dying as he watched on.

Corkus, portrayed as antagonistic towards Guts, exhibited fierce loyalty to Griffith, acknowledging Guts' immense value to the Band of the Falcon, particularly when Guts displayed formidable prowess in breaking his sword during the battle with Boscogn. Despite Corkus' one-sided hatred towards Guts, the latter didn't harbor major issues with Corkus and even considered him a valuable band member. Corkus openly expressed his animosity when Guts decided to leave the band, attributing it to Guts' perceived self-centered nature and the belief that Guts considered himself the sole bearer of life's burdens. However, Corkus displayed a rare moment of understanding when Guts felt guilty about leaving Griffith, reassuring him that Griffith's imprisonment wasn't his fault. While Corkus often appeared cynical and world-weary, hints of underlying idealism emerged in his past failed attempts at personal success. Judeau revealed that Corkus, having experienced a loss, sought solace in newfound glory and privileges under Griffith. Confronted with Guts' departure, Corkus candidly admitted to aiming arrows at Guts' back in battles, adding a complex layer to his character within the Band of the Falcon.

Pippin was quiet and very rarely spoke. When he did, it was often to make an important observation or to warn his companions, such as ordering his fellow mercenaries to duck against the arrows shot by Midland's soldiers or holding a cup to Guts and telling him to drink. He was depicted as caring and loyal, and was often seen accompanied by Rickert, the youngest member of the band, whom he made sure to protect in battle. He did not seem to get angry easily, retaining his peaceful expression even after being elbowed by an unappreciative Guts.

Initially perceived as a fair, wise, and generous ruler, the King welcomed the Band of the Falcon into nobility, recognizing their contribution against Tudor and rewarding them generously. Particularly, he esteemed Griffith, acknowledging his talent despite resistance from other nobles like Julius who dismissed Griffith's lower-class background. However, once learning of Griffith's liaison with Charlotte, the King's respect turned to contempt, leading him to personally punish Griffith through brutal lashings in the dungeon. Discovering Griffith's awareness of his incestuous feelings, the King became frenzied, ordering relentless torture and dispatching the majority of the military for two years in a relentless pursuit of revenge against Griffith, whom he blamed for "stealing" Charlotte with his words.

She places great importance on maintaining the purity of her social standing and orchestrates a conspiracy to kill Griffith after his ascent to nobility, despite his humble origins. Her main motivation for plotting Griffith's assassination is the death of her lover, Julius, who was killed by Guts under Griffith's orders. The Queen harbors deep affection for Julius, and his demise sparks intense fury within her. Julius, a brash and arrogant noble, firmly held the belief that commoners could never achieve the status of generals and be considered equals to nobles. This conviction motivated him to attempt the murder of Griffith. Additionally, Julius trained his son in swordsmanship, aiming for him to lead the White Dragon Knights and become a suitable husband for the princess. He perceived this duty as fundamentally distinct from the responsibilities of other men. Despite his flaws, including being an unfaithful brother by committing adultery with the queen, Julius displayed courage when faced with danger, defending himself against Guts, who sought to take his life. Not entirely devoid of compassion, Julius admitted to Hassan that his rigorous training of his son stemmed from allowing his frustrations to get the best of him, revealing a more nuanced aspect to his character.

An evil or Sinister voice for a monster or Demon

A voice of a knight in the midst of battle

Villagers making small talk

Soldiers celebrating a victory in battle

Gambino, the leader of a mercenary group, encounters a gruesome scene where a dead woman has given birth to a living baby among hanging corpses. Despite initial skepticism, Gambino agrees to adopt the baby, named Guts, at the insistence of a woman named Shisu. Over the years, Gambino blames Guts for Shisu's death, trains him in swordsmanship, and becomes increasingly resentful. Guts faces harsh treatment, including being prostituted to a fellow mercenary by Gambino. When Gambino loses his leg in battle, his bitterness intensifies, culminating in a drunken attempt to kill Guts. In self-defense, Guts fatally wounds Gambino. Later, in Guts' dreams, Gambino appears as a haunting figure, symbolizing unresolved guilt and trauma from their tumultuous past.

His keen perception allowed him to discern suppressed emotions in others, complemented by a self-awareness that acknowledged his proficiency in many things rather than excelling in a single skill. Choosing to follow Griffith, he resolved to fight alongside one he perceived as the best when he recognized he couldn't achieve that status himself. Soft-spoken and preferring to be a bystander in conflicts, Judeau showed care for Casca, prioritizing her well-being over his own desires and supporting her burgeoning relationship with Guts.

Rickert possesses a gentle, rational, and somewhat childishly innocent personality, a notable contrast to the typical rough demeanor of mercenaries. Observant and perceptive, he accurately assesses situations, such as attributing responsibility to Corkus for instigating a fight with Guts during the Battle of Doldrey, leading to the loss of men. Rickert's distinct character is highlighted during a celebration marking the end of the Hundred Years War, where he feels overwhelmed by the attention of admiring women who find his cuteness endearing. His initial idolization of Guts for saving him in the Band of the Falcon's early days evolves into a genuine friendship, despite Guts preventing him from joining his journey due to Rickert's inability to harbor hatred towards Griffith. Rickert forms a brotherly bond with Pippin, rarely seen without him, and extends a similar connection to other band members. Beyond his personality, Rickert's intelligence and engineering skill shine through, evident in his creation of the Cannon Arm for Guts and his role in upgrading Guts' arsenal upon his return. His apprenticeship under Godot further refines his blacksmithing abilities, showcasing Rickert's multifaceted contributions within the Band of the Falcon.

Three years into Guts' tenure with the Band of the Falcon, Gaston stood out as one of the raiders who held profound respect for Guts, both as a commanding officer and a friend. Despite never regretting his decision to join the Band of the Falcon, Gaston harbored aspirations of saving earnings to establish a clothing shop in Wyndham. Upon Guts' return, Gaston confessed to abandoning the store when learning about the band's exile, yet he expressed no disappointment when revealing this to his former commander. Instead, he embraced the idea that his place was with the band, emphasizing the familial bond among the raiders. Shortly before his death, Gaston displayed self-awareness regarding his role in the narrative, sharing with Guts a feeling of being a "minor character" in a "crazy story someone wrote."

Erica shows a thoughtful side, empathising with the struggles of a locked Casca and a troubled Rickert. Though never a hesitant one to speak her mind when it comes to seek justice, she does not do it out of a perceived grudge with the other person she is speaking to: even after having been put by Daiba under a trance to help him with menial chores, she is quick to offer a supporting device to the elder man so as to help him with his joint aches.

Godot, despite his gruff and standoffish demeanor, revealed a kindhearted nature beneath his rough exterior. Notably, he spontaneously took in the orphaned Erica and raised her as his own daughter, showcasing a compassionate side. Later, Godot extended his benevolence to Rickert, providing tutelage to the young boy who had nowhere else to turn after the traumatic events of the Eclipse. Demonstrating a moralistic outlook, Godot lectured Guts on the pitfalls of pursuing revenge at the expense of abandoning Rickert and a helpless Casca. He equated revenge to a fruitless endeavor that only led to self-destruction, urging Guts to avoid being consumed by malice and to embrace sorrow alongside those irreplaceable to him. Despite Godot's dedication to his blacksmithing craft throughout his life, he didn't view this single-minded devotion as a positive example. In a cautionary message to Guts, he conveyed through Rickert, "Don't turn out like me," emphasizing the value of relationships over relentless pursuit. Remaining a passionate blacksmith until the end, Godot chose to repair Guts' equipment while he still had the strength to stand, leaving a lasting impression of his kindness and wisdom.

ChCharlotte is a demure and socially distant princess known for her soft-spoken and polite demeanor. Described as shy by her father, she rarely ventures outside Wyndham's palace. Despite Griffith's torture and deformity, she remains fiercely loyal to him. After Griffith's return, Charlotte officially proclaims herself as his fiancée, even though she initially dismisses the situation as resembling a childish dream. Disliking wars and hunting, she perceives them as senseless bloodshed and criticizes lavish parties during wartime. Despite seeing herself as a "sheltered girl" and a potential burden, Charlotte is remarkably strong-willed. She defends her decision to favor Griffith against her mother, serves as a spy for the Band of the Falcon, bribes a guard during a rescue mission, prevents a poisoned dart from harming Griffith, and, following the formation of Falconia, drafts legislation for orphanages. Despite her royal status, she lacks the characteristic high-handed bearing of nobility, displaying cheerfulness and kindness.

Adon exuded great pride in warfare, considering the battlefield sacred to men and viewing himself as a proud knight of Tudor. Despite his arrogance and high opinion of his skills, he displayed cowardice in the face of danger, often preferring to have his soldiers risk their lives for him while appealing to their pride as Tudor knights. His misogyny was evident as he believed a woman's presence on the battlefield desecrated it, asserting that Casca's involvement was solely due to her relationship with Griffith. Adon degradingly referred to Casca as his "prisoner" and harbored vengeful intentions towards her for the death of his brother Samson, swearing she would become his plaything. During the Doldrey battle, he callously entertained the idea of letting a wounded Casca live as such. After his skirmish with Guts, Adon shifted into a more comical and dishonorable role, feigning death, begging for mercy, and resorting to attacking from behind. His final act of treachery involved begging Casca for mercy only to shoot her with a small crossbow when her guard was down. Ultimately, he met his demise at Casca's hands in the ensuing confrontation.
